I think Garrus makes some offhand comment about it if you talk to him on Therum. His other line besides "remember to stay hydrated".

God, that's going to suck. It's the third damned installment of a series for crying out loud! To hell with the FNGs that were too dumb to pick up the other two games, they've had 3 YEARS to catch up.

QFT.  I agree with this SO HARD. (It's taken me a full seven minutes to post this reply--I timed it--so you know I feel strongly about the issue...LOL)

"Hey, I'm reading this great book called 'The Return of the King', but I don't know who any of these people are or what's going on.  Why didn't this Tolkien guy make the book more accessible?  I really didn't feel like reading the first two..."

From what I gathered They are making it so complete nubies can pick up Me 3 and not have to play the other ones to know whats going on like in ME 2. Thats why I said don't expect alot of references to what you did in ME 2. I'd think they be like all the "big" choices you did in ME 1 that they carried over. AKA email or camo NPC with a few lines of Dialog.

http://www.thegamera...-1000-decisions

You're forgetting the most important part of that interview.

All of the the Mass Effect titles standalone. The beginning of Mass Effect 2 is really meant to let players experience Mass Effect for the first time. We really want to look at Mass Effect 3 as a standalone title where the ending is going to feel satisfying.

The other thing, for people who played the first two games, is that the third is really the fruition of all the choices you made. So in a way, Mass Effect 2 was the most difficult to make because we had to not only bring in things you've done before but think about what's coming for the future. Now it's really about how things come to a conclusion.

People who start playing this trilogy beginning with ME2 or ME3 are able to play it without getting lost in the story. But they get a crap default Shep with Wrex dead, no influence on Virmire, Council dead etc. They can play and enjoy the game, but for the full experience and to really feel like your choices matter, you'll have to play the first two games. That's why it's 'standalone': you don't need to play the first two games to understand ME3.

We get a personal experience, because we were able to build our Shep how we want him/her to be. For the n00bs, ME3 will be the start, but for us it's the end. ME2 was hard to make, because it didn't only have to implement choices you made in the first game, but also because they had to think ahead of how choices in ME2 would affect ME3. In ME3, they don't have this problem because it's the last part, so they can go crazy with it. I'm usually the biggest pessimist in the world, but I expect ME3 to be everything but a dissappointment.

So yes, ME3 is 'standalone', just like the other parts, but it's still a continuation if you import your own Shepard.

And turians sweat because Sidonis mentions waking up sweating after having nightmares.

Cerry is correct. I interpreted what they said as meaning that like the other ME games, anyone can pick up the game, play it, and understand enough not to be confused out of their mind. But the fact that it's the last game in the trilogy means Bioware can go all out with different permutations and branching plots and what not, because there's no worry about how to carry it over to another game.

But isn't that what they said about ME 2 and the choices that are carried over? Actions speak louder then words in this case to me.

im just scared for tali and garrus in the default playthroughs. they already killed wrex off. what if they killed tali and garrus off because of there strong history with shepardr. I think they would get really close after going through something like a suicide mission and they may just cut them out of the default playthrough and save the happy reunion for the people that bothered to get them out alive in ME2. that would make me sadface:(

Word. I really would be annoyed if a "Dur, What's a spectre?" came up on the dialogue wheel Posted Image For goodness sake, concentrate on the faithful Mass effect players. Case in point, my BF picked up mass effect 2, I had already played both and I ask "so you played the first right?" he says "nope" I get baffled and ask  WHY he would spoil the plot (not to mention how plot heavy these games are) for himself. He is unfortunately an "impatient player" couldn't appreciate an RPG to save his life because if it involved a deep plot which required READING or listening for more than a minute *yawn* he'd skip those parts with a furious tap of a button because that's too boring .

So I suggested he play the first to get the most out of ME2,I told him that he would get default sh*tty Shepard otherwise, no cameos, no extra content , nothing. Plus you'd have a greater appreciation for the characters and story.He said he just wanted to play a new shooter and didn't mind skipping the first, cue my facepalm and then I tried to explain what Bioware games were like and how plot came before the gameplay. Again , didn't listen. So a week later I ask how the game was going;

"Didn't like the gameplay, I'm sending it back , can't get into it"  Posted Image well no sh*t! I bet he skipped ALL the dialogue to shoot things and got annoyed at the amount of dialouge he had to skip in order to do the action parts. Didn't like that it it wasn't a typical TPS either.Even with all the stuff for newbs in that game he STILL didn't like it.

I'd love to have more discussion about this, with my usual barging in every 2 seconds and typing something, but it's far beyond feasible right now for me. I'm off to hopefully reformat the HD of my other computer...hopefully that'll also solve the forum access problem. If not, hey, there's always this one...powered by a running space hamster, you know. ;)

I'll do my best to be here for page 1000! Wouldn't want to miss the chance of a Garrus visit. :)

lol nice one. Some one shot do a "play as Garrus" head butt the Krogan and you can do one warning of proper technique to do head bump. Using the Krogan one as an example to doing it wrong. :P

Tali and Garrus already had a history after ME1, so they could've left them out in ME2 if they really wanted to take that route. They didn't.

Moreover, Garrus was completely optional to recruit in ME1. You could leave him on the Citadel if you didn't want to take him along. He was still recruitable in ME2.

Wrex was killed off because he was able to die in ME1. Default Shep doesn't get Wrex, because someone who starts with ME2 has no idea who Wrex is or was. It doesn't matter to them that they don't get Wrex. If Wrex lived in default playthrough and n00b meets Wrex on Tuchanka, Wrex will say "good you didn't kill me on Virmire" and n00b will go "???????".

The reason default Shep gets all these crappy decisions is because they want to make new players curious to the first two games. If someone likes ME3, they're likely to buy the first two games to experience the entire journey, and they'll find out that building your own Shep and picking dialogue options that suit you more will make the game even better.

So no, I don't fear crappy things for Garrus, Tali, or any other squadmate.
