My character is a human noble warrior.  I was wondering if it smarter to get my 2nd level of coercion vs my 4th level of combat training??  After Lothering I tried to do the Arl of Redcliffe quest and it seems like anyone I need to persuade tells me to go to hell.  Would level 2 Coercion make a difference so early in the game??  And would holding off on my level 4 Combat training be a bad decision??

I know spoilers are allowed here but if you could please try to refrain putting them in your responses I would be very appreciative.

You could dish out 12g for a tome of skill and sundry and get both. I think I would put the point in combat training... do you actually have a high enough cunning to get the coercion skill?

I believe each rank gives you +5 intimidate/persuade, and each point of strength/cunning gives you +1 intimidate/persuade respectively, but I'm not sure about those numbers.

As a warrior you should still be doing pretty well on your Intimidate checks. With rank 4 Coercion, you should succeed at a lot of persuasion as well, even with low Cunning.

Whether you should get rank 2 Coercion or rank 4 Combat Training depends on how soon you want your tier 4 weapon talents -- you'll need Combat Training to unlock them. If you think that can wait a few levels, you may as well get Coercion so you can enjoy that now.

Worst case scenario, you can always save your talent points for later until you finish up Combat Training (on PC, not sure about console).

Another part of my problem is that I have a lower strenght rating than normal warrior builds because I am leveling in the dual weapon school.

I seem to remember that with a human warrior with about 20 cunning I was able to pass every check in Redcliff with two points in persuasion, so my guess is it makes a pretty big difference. This was using peruade, not intimidate, by the way.

I loaded up on Coercion my second playthrough as I was unable to get the Green Blade in Redcliff my first time through and got pretty ticked. I was able to do fairly well w/o advanced combat training until later. It's up to you, but I personally liked being able to persuade most anyone at any time.

If you're still undecided my advice is to just do it and get Coercion.

I always try to get to my second level coercion skill and at least 15 cunning(18-19 will usually let you breeze over it more often than not through the game)before redc and that seems to work just fine but I also have the luckystone ring on which takes it yet  another point. It's easier to find weapons/jewels/belts ect for the strength or dex if I need it badly before then. The dual wep skills are going to take a while to get to at any rate with needing a high dexterity so yeah, go your second level in coercion.

If you're going with the dual wield tree there is really no hurry to take the 4th tier talents (you'll get there eventually). Go with coercion. With rank 2 you still wouldn't be able to succeed at difficult checks (Dwyn would still refuse to defend Redcliffe for free, for example), but you'll have a good chance at most 'reasonable' coercion checks.

Cunning only really makes a difference for rogues, because you need to take it to 35 to get the equivalent of one more rank in the coercion skill (and even then, that's only for persuade checks, not intimidation).

This. You'll kick yourself if you plan on certain things at the Landsmeet and don't have high coercion. I usually look at the tiers I'm about to get and weigh whether I want coercion or my next tier. After I max out that, I focus o combat training.

OK cool, so ill try to ill grab my level 2 coercion before my level 4 combat training.

My only other question is what quest should I go for 1st Broken Circle (as recommended by my strategy guide) or Redcliffe (which seems most logical)??

Again...NO SPOILERS please.

Broken Circle. There are good reasons to do it first, especially before Redcliffe.

Also, do a 'named save' (not a quick save) before making any big decisions.

Agreed. Coercion and Broken Circle. Don't listen to Alistair.

I went to Redcliffe first both times because it made the most sense in the narrative. Other than the aforementioned Green Blade issue, I was happy with the results. I can see the advantage of going to the tower, however, especially considering some of the take-aways from Broken Circle quest.

Coercion! You will probably get another skill point before you need Combat Training 4 to take the top tier weapon talents. High Coercion is invaluable.

Me too. I maxed out my Coercion early on in the game and was able to persuade pretty much everybody. My followers, NPC characters, even a certain someone before the Landsmeet.
