Why would you think that?  Perhaps it is just that Tali's personality appeals to them the most, which is why they are Tali fans?

No they are'nt. Bioware didnt write the ME1 LI's that way because they didnt have the obession of the Tali fans. They are developing the characters more to fulfill the last act.  I doubt if Ashley/Kaidan/Liara had a huge vocal fanbase they would be any different because Bioware has a plan.

People are forgetting that this is a trilogy.  There are good reasons for the ME1 LI's not being squad mates in ME2, none of which have to do with them not having long enough forum threads.

You misunderstand.

It isn't that they sidelined the ME1's, it's that they made them virtually nonexistent to the point where the existing fanbases are barely even supportive anymore.

They easily could have put more effort in, while still keeping those fans semi-happy, and without having to kill 'em off on the suicide mission.

Yes. Except that regardless of keeping them safe, they were still written rather poorly and had horrid cameos at best in ME2. Many people expect this to happen to the ME2 characters/LI's BECAUSE it is now ME3 and the ME1's will return to the center screen. People like me, however, would prefer to have them both.

Why are you saying anything about forum threads? People are acting like that in direct response to all the posting of "oh they are gonna shove me2 characters to the side because they can die"

as well as the poor handling of the ME1 cameos.

Because I've had too many conversations where people say things about the ME1/2 cast that where just wrong, or based off of first impressions.

Seriously let people enjoy whatever team members they want to. I personally find something great about the entire crew.I think to many limit themselves but hating on other crew members since they all are unique and interesting in their own way.The only people I do not understand are the ones that have a LI and now feel they need to hate the other ones. I think just consider them friends of Shep since they are still interesting.

OMG we cannot have a Cutlass Jack love thread. The man skewered my space hamster on a spit for lunch, boinked Kelly in my bed (TWICE) and, to add insult to injury, drank all my rum. And don't get me started on what was done to the head. I had to have it professionally cleaned. BY BURNING.
