I can't help but a feel a bit bemused whenever a cutscene kicks in, where my Biotic Commando-style vanguard shepard, rather than pull out any of his guns, magics a bog-standard assault rifle to use. It got even better later on, when the rest of the team learned the magic spell.

Are the cutscenes pre-rendered? Or is it just a static declaration somewhere in game's guts that dictate what gun he uses?

they're mostly pre-rendered cut scenes at least where the weapon is concerned which is a bit odd considering what Bioware has done in the past.

No less worse than the magically reappearing (and resurrected Miranda)

Any cut scenes with your character in it are NOT pre-rendered. They use the assault rifle just because they wanted a standard to use for the animations within the cut scenes instead of having to do several version for each. Animating is a b****.

Then perhaps they should have done with a more common weapon like pistols. Sure, it is not as cool, but it's not inconsistent.

Yeah I have noticed this amazing appearing/disappearing assault rifle. I've seen my Adept whip out an assault rifle, during a cutscene, when obviously I have no such one equipped. A little strange that Bioware let that happen.

i dont know whos idea that was, or why they didnt just use the pistol for everyone like in ME1. instead they decided to make the ONE gun only ONE class gets the cutscene standard for everyone including teammates? really?

I am a Vanguard so I don't have an assault rifle, but every cutscene has me using one.

I had a chuckle about that too - or the final mission when people like Tali and Jacob are all like "WE HAS ARS TOO!" holding the line. Bahaha. Minor grumble, but I hope they can clean that up in ME3 or with a patch.

Problem is, they'll animate a cut-scene just once. If they have a cut scene in which Shepard is supposed to hold a gun to a guy's head, but Shepard in-game has an assault rifle because that's what you were using, the rifle will just clip through the guy's head.

I've never even used an assualt rifle in my four playthroughs of ME2. Always a crack in continuity when it pops up. LOL.

Every marine a rifleman, every rifleman zero-G certified.

Always use an assault rifle myself, but it always gets me how my teammates who don't have assault rifles pull them out to use.

Even Joker is not spared! He gets an AR in a cutscene too!

Yeah, it was a bit odd seeing Tali toting an assault rifle. Should have made pistols the default option, definately.

Least Joker's can be explained, he might have a rifle under his seat or something. xD

I pretty much blinked the first time I noticed it too, then it become a constant chuckle every time. I still find it amusing after 3 playthroughs.

Not particulary gamebreaking, but then I can see past those things. :P

I've been complaining about this since early Mass Effect 1. I think it is just silly. In Mass Effect 2 it actually got worse... in Mass Effect 1 there was at least some scenes were party members (Not Shepard, sadly) used appropriate abilities - e.g Liara using biotics - in Mass Effect 2 everyone loves the Assault Rifle.

They should just get some basics down... either give them all pistols in cutscenes which would be an improvement... but even better would be;

Vanguard - Shotgun, biotics
Adept - Pistol/SMG, biotics
Engineer - Pistol/SMG, omni-tool
Infiltrator - Sniper, omni-tool
Soldier - Assault Rifle
Sentinel - Pistol/SMG, omni-tool/biotics
Then picking a standard for each classes. Two standards.

Uh, I'm a little lost, what cutscenes are we talking about here?

The only time I've ever noticed Shepard and co using assault rifles in a cutscene was on the suicide mission.

My Adept used an AR during Garrus recruitment mission and the cutscene with the Gunship. Just one of several places I believe.

The AR is not the only major flaw: Sometimes the soldier pulls out the starting-smg although soldiers don't have one.

Also every Shepard can use the Sniper-Rifle in the scene with garrus, to shoot a mech the head off.

Somebody put it best in another thread: Canon Shepard is a jerk with a bigass machine gun.

Why i picked the AR with my vanguard on the collector ship. I wanted to feel i actually had it in the cut-scenes, lol.

Silly isnt it.

At least in Mass Effect all the characters were actually equipped with an AR. In Mass Effect 2, not so much.

I just want the game to acknowledge.biotics.

Like Those scenes on illium with the merc demonstrating how uber her biotics are

That whole cutscene i was like "lol my cod can throw more newtons than that". It just irked me.
