Much much much much more unless part of the Quarian life cycle involves assimilation of other genomes and the Quarian homeworld has all kinds of different genetic material and protein structures.
But think of this, there are 22 amino acids each with it's unique structure plus modified forms. Many more are possible but not used. Hard to say exactly how many potentially useful forms of amino acids there are. These fit together in an almost uncountable number of possibilites to form proteins. Even very small changes are enough to block human human mating.
The chances of two species independantly coming into existance during the same timeperiod and in locations accessible to eachother is close to zero unless there are very very strong selection for almost exactly our solution to the genetic problem of life. Our solution would have to be almost the only one. Probably not although NO DATA comes to mind.
BUT, its a game so enjoy your fantasy, its not much more wild than some of the other things in ME
