You never heard of convergent evolution, huh? How much do you actually know about biology?

Maybe it's better to focus on narrative than making fake science.

We're walking on shaky ground if we're going to talk about convergent evolution.
Two alien species that use DNA is convergent evolution.  Bipedalism in two alien species is convergent evolution.  Placentas and embryonic reproduction in two alien species is convergent evolution.  But two species evolving so close along the same lines that they can interbreed and have viable offspring?  That is not convergent.  That smacks of intelligent design.  But that is for a different discussion.

Agreed. And if that happens, I'll be forced to sigh heavily, finish ME 3, and burn the disc after...probably. I dunno, Battlestar managed to work the God angle alright I suppose. Meh, who am I kidding, I'm biowares ****.

They seem to. Asari don't work on the 'standard' reproductive basis.

Yes, asari inherit DNA from the other parent as well.

As far as quarian/human child goes, I think it may be possible, but there probably will be quite a few problems. But like the OP said, there may be really good technology in the ME universe that we don't know about it. We may not have seen any cases of a hybrid just b/c the devs didn't explore that yet, just like we really don't see any other children or a female turian, salarian etc...
So, it's really hard to give a right answer. As Sabresandiego said on page 1, this is a fictional universe, and given the right explanation a lot can be done.

Chemotaxis (guiding the sperm cell with chemicals released by the egg)  would most likely be impossible in an alien vagina, our silly human sperm would be unable to find the egg. Even if they did make it, the chromosomes would most likely be incompatible, and wouldn't even become a zygote (fertilized egg). Evolution is like a snowflake, in order for it to be identical, it would have to occur in the exact same conditions.

Even if humans could impregnate aliens, said hybrid would be unable to breed (Example: Mules).

I love Tali. It borders on obsession, I'll admit. But you put A LOT of thought into that. With that said, anybody who actually reads it instead of just insulting him would know he makes some good points.

Thank you for that, I did put quite a bit of thought into this forum. I appreciate the users that kept an open mind when reviewing this forum. I look forward to seeing more posts. Posted Image

Hybrids are possible with Lions and Tigers for example, because they share a common ancestor and have a lot in common genetically. Humans and Quarians DO NOT share a common ancestor. They evolved on completely different planets and from completely different life forms. The dextro-protein based Quarians are not even of the same chirality as humans, so a human-Quarian hybrid would not be possible through any natural means.

I suppose with the highly advanced and futuristic medical technology of the ME universe, anything might be possible in a lab, but there is absolutely no possibility that Shepard got Tali pregant before the suicide run in ME2.

I think cross species would ony be possible through some super complicated genetic engineering, and then most scientists would probably try to combine human and asari DNA, asari biotic potenti and robust biologyl+ human variance and ouliers=strong hybrid capable of many different things

It is made clear that Asari "Hybrid" Children are not hybrids at all, but merely possess some junk DNA that was randomized using their partner's DNA, and that genetic material is not really "passed on". Biology is still realistic in the ME Universe, and I hope it stays that way. These games are not love sims, they  just include various relationships with your crew for immersion. If Bioware changes their the already established biological facts in the ME Universe to make Tali fanboys happy, I will vomit.

I admire the thought and effort the OP put into their post, but I have to side with the naysayers here. There's simply no feasible or logical way that Shepard and Tali could have a child together, short of some crazy Lazarus-Project-style genetic tinkering, and there's NO WAY IN HELL I'd be letting Cerberus anywhere near Tali, or a child of mine.

Okay, I've been giving this some extra thought. Considering the obvious similarities between Quarians and humans (they must be a form of primate), I seem to remember someone stating somewhere that they had mammary glands) and putting their protien chirality on the back-burner, for now, I can see where a child might be possible.

Assuming that the couple could vault all the genetic hurdles present using any number of crazy advanced genetic engineering and gene therapy, they might be able to concieve a child, ableit with a huge helping hand from the scientific community. I wrote before that the Quarian (I'm just going to say Tali from now on, because, hey, that's what we're really talking about) would reject the fetus, but when I considered it, I changed my mind. Tali's immune system is already in the toilet, her response would be there, to be sure, but it would only pose a small threat to the fetus. Put her on immunosuppressants, and the problem goes away, for the baby at least. This also means that during the entire term of the pregnancy, Tali would be confined to quarantine, constantly monitored because her immune system is essentially nil. Assuming that Shepard and Tali really do love each other, that's an emotional hurdle they'll have to face, and only the first.

Assuming the baby does not kill Tali, she and Shepard should be able to invite a rare product of medical science (and true love, awww, how about that) that would be the topic of millions of papers around the galaxy. But, I still can't see (or maybe I just don't know) any way to get around the viablility issue. From where I stand, the child would be sterile, there may be some fantastical technology that could get around this, but today it remains in the world of fiction. The couple would have to seriously consider this before attempting to concieve a child, any couple would. Also, the child would be a pariah, his/her life would not be easy in anyway, regardless of Shepard's clout on the galactic stage.

But, I will concede that the child could be a possiblity.

I think I read this in one of the codex entries saying that Humans having the most diverse DNA and genetic backgrounds means they can be easily changed to grow tails and change their appearance and what not. Because of this its illegal for humans to mess with their DNA so this means it is possible that a shepard character to modify his genes to be able to impregnate quarians although it has to be done illegaly. I'm gonna see if I can find the source ingame.

Found it!

Its in the secondary codex entries Humanity and the Systems Alliance under the Genetic Engineering Tab.

http://masseffect.wi...y_Codex_Entries
ENGINEERING: Artificial hybridization of genes from compatible non-human species with human genetic code is illegal. Creation of designed life is broadly legal (and mainly used for terraforming and medial applications), but sentient creatures are heavily regulated, and creation of sapient life is outlawed by both the Systems Alliance and the Citadel Council.

There are no hybrid offsprings in the ME universe and there won't be. Asari "reproducing" with other species still give birth to 100% Asari, no matter who they reproduce with, this has been explained in the Codex.

And people claim Talimancers are no more creepy than normal ME fans...

(And before I get accused of responding only to the first sentence, I'll point out that I read the entire post and it is at odds with what the only ME universe biologist we've met has said)

Exactly.  But in all likelihood, Shepard would just adopt some adorable orphaned Quarian child.  In my opinion, Tali may be willing to risk her life for something like this, but Shepard wouldn't.

Freakin' space opera, got me all involved and such.

I don't see how this is at odds with the ME universe. The topic of hybrid childs hasn't come up as it hasn't happened and I've already addressed this point. I also resent being called creepy for trying to prove a possibility that I think should be explored.

I concur that the probabilities of interspecies crossbreeding among these aliens are nil. Incompatible biology in every case, except for Asari genomic randomization. (I can envision a scenario wherein Shepard approaches an Asari, perhaps Shiala for example, and asks if she could create a child randomized at least in part off of the Prothean genetic memory in the Cipher - let the Protheans give one more gift to sentient species!)

It is quite plausible that Shepard is now sterile (even probable in the case of female Shepards), considering the circumstances leading into the Lazarus project and reproductive cell death/degradation. Having a biological child with another human could be difficult.

Fortunately, for anyone who hopes for a Shepard Dynasty, the galaxy is full of orphans!

Hard enough to suspend disbelief with species who have had NO COMMON EVOLUTIVE ancestor to be able to have sexual intercourse with each other, but you actually want to up the ante and add reproduction?

seriously... it's just... too screwed up...

because behaviour comes from the dna? no...
but maybe she did grow up with her krogan father, i am sure that could have effects on her behaviour...
