Well, let's see. My sweetheart, no-Combat-Training, bard/ranger city elf rogue is named Catherine. My well-meaning but rage-filled 2H-weapon, berserker/champion human noble is named Adriana. My also well-meaning but slightly chilly, risk-taking black-and-white magic specialist spirit healer/blood mage elven mage (my current avatar) is named Vivian.

I name my dog Hans, loosely after a dog of mine that passed away a few years ago. Her name was Greta. (And what popped into my head when trying to decide how to convert the name was Hansel and Gretel, which made me think Hans and Greta... foolish, I know.)

karmianna, for every toon.

My Dog was named Sydney after my real life Lab that passed away last year. He was a black Lab or so the breeder told us but when out in the sun he was actually brown. So I named him Sydney after Sydney Poitier because he wasn't really black. You had to be around in the early 50s to understand that reference I think.

Warden: Caethas, after my EQ2 character (who was a half-elf Ranger in EQ2...for DAO I went scout, of course, but specced Duelist/Assassin...DAO Ranger is pretty different from EQ2 Ranger)

Dog: Redwind. I wanted to name it after one of the Stark kids' dire wolves from A Game of Thrones, but "Grey Wind" didn't seem to fit for a non-wolf. For my HNF I chose Ghost, another of the dire wolves' names. :)

My main is a human noble warrior named Arthur because I like the name along with the King Arthur character.  My mabari was named Achilles after my sister's dog who looks similar.

I named my elven mage Aethas, originally I named the dog Ciel (as I'd been considering dog names as I was going to get a dog at the time, my first one being one I had fourteen years and spoke to in French; I wasn't going to break the trend) but now I've decided to do a rerun on one of Aethas' early game (korcari wilds) saves and shall name him.... Mutley!

Since I played through & finished my Warrior game 2x

I finally decided to try out a new character today.

A mage of all things! Which is shocking for me.

He is a male & already got him to be an Archane Warrior

Name: Jaden

Dog Name: Scout

So far I am really enjoying this character except I really miss the wicked strong tactics that my Warrior guy (Logan) had, like the Champion Warcry perks, Assult,..ect.

Next I am gonna try out an Elf Rogue.

McGruff is my name for Dog. (Yes, that's right. The "crime dog". Except now he's a bloodhound hunting down the crime wave of darkspawn perps.)

BTW, I'm glad the game gives you a chance to name your own dog. I think that's a nice touch.

It especially makes sense if you get Dog through the Human Noble origin. But apparently Mabari are unnamed until they "bond" themselves to an owner. So Dog is nameless even if you get him the other way - until named.

I loved McGruff. I usually didn't pick him often as companion #4 in playthrough 1 because ... well, you miss out on the interactions, banter, etc. of the other companions who have them.

That's why I loved discovering the "Persistent Dog" mod, which I used in playthrough 2, it managed to keep McGruff all the time as a "faux" 5th companion (basically going in your summons slot). You can do everything using this mod except level him (he's got to go back into a "real" slot to be levelled). Tell him to fetch. Pet him. Control his behavior (either direct or AI).

Only thing is, alas, as with many mods, it does not seem to play nice with some script moments in the game (relating to party selection), or some of the other mods I was using, and occasionally caused weird situations.

David for my character's name, you can probably guess why.

Rabbit for the dog, simply because old habits die hard.

My favourite character (City elf female rogue) is named Rica. Just because the dialogue with the Proving Master in Orzammar made me giggle madly.

Favourite dog name so far is Arf Howl.
