if this has already been covered then i apologise now.
i was wondering how the player defences work against enemy skills. for example, does a warp do little dmg to my basic shields? if i have tech armour, barrier, fortitude or geth shield boost, or vg charge barrier, are these susceptible to warp? if they are, is the total amount of my shields weak to this now or only the "barrier" part of it, with my base shield value still being resistant?

Tech Armor, ect have nothing to do with it. They nearly boost whatever defense you have. If you have shields, it boosts your shield bar. If you have barrier, it boosts your barrier.
for example. grunt has an armor bar. When he uses fortification his armor bar goes up.
If shepherd gets fortification, his shield or barrier goes up (depending on what class he is).
Barrier talent doesnt turn your bar purple and it add a purple bar if you had shields. it just increases your shield value.

To my knowledge, shields and barriers work the same way as enemy shields and barriers.

I could probably get hit by three warps and my shield bar wouldnt pop off as a sentinel.

I thought this would be a thread about how babies are not made after the LI endings.

Needless to say, I am disappointed.

so, if i'm an adept/vanguard my shields are, in fact, barrier, whereas the other classes have shields. i predominantly play vanguard and this would explain why my shields got 1shotted by enemy warps. bit harsh though i feel, do enemies use overload? can't say i've ever noticed them do it.

Yes, barrier is purple, shields are blue. If you look at the squad selection screen, you can tell who has what.
Legion has Geth Shields (no idea, but i think they're just regular shields with bonuses) and Grunt has Armor.
They use incinerate plenty.

the only incinerates i notice are from harbinger and the fire effect from flamethrowers (both of which destroy my barrier in 1hit/1second which doesnt make sense[apart from it being insanity uber lolz]), and they are only extra effective on grunt? seems like its a big advantage to be sentinel/infi/soldier because overload isnt ever used while warp wielding enemies are fairly common.

Eclipse Engineers have the Incinerate power. And they have drones.

Harbingers attacks are biotic I'm pretty sure and flame throwers don't count (at least I think they don't count).

I think the Krogan "carnage" (the fireballs that pop out of shotguns) are tech damage as well.

*shrug* i don't really see how that matters, unless you're implying that they do bonus dmg to shields, the krogan thing 1hits a full base shield + charge barrier anyway. one ability i can think of that might do bonus dmg to shields is the blue ball thing that geth primes and the collosus fire, they can't quite 1hit my barrier anyway and i get the impression they're supposed to be a scary move.

One of the eclipse mercs uses overload all the time. Think its the Legionnaire? Anyways, I hate Grunt and Jack's recruitment mission for that very reason. Atleast you can dodge enemy warps. Its pretty much impossible to dodge an overload.

ahh ok as long as there is an overload user(was feeling some biotic hate there for a while), don't notice it as it wouldn't affect my barrier :D

yeah i spose you can dodge a warp, not easily though, you'd have to predict it though, and be far away, which if you're a vanguard isn't where you are.
