The most ridiculous squad tactics I encountered so far are team mates getting cover when the are being attacked by husks. I mean those husk don't have guns, they can't hurt you from a distance. So why going for cover?

Normally you can direct your teammates to somewhere without cover, except the suicide mission. During the part with the biotic barrier, squad tactics don't work.

I'm trying to roll with my ME1 squaddies (Garrus, Tali), and I must say I get embarrassed for Garrus because he dies ALL the time while Tali hardly ever does. And here's the catch; he doesn't climb on boxes or use a shotgun like Tali, yet he's always the first one dead whether using Snipe or Assault.

Jack, Miranda, Jacob, Mordin, they are rearely in my squad cuz they're coverage mechanics are so bad I waste all my medigel on them.

The best ones are Thane, Grunt, and Tali. I don't think I've ever had to use Unity for Thane. Damn assassins :P

What I hate the most is when you do a mission that have Mercs with missile launchers (heavy's). I order Garrus to take cover at some place, then at the same time 3 missiles are fired from the heavy's, and then, just as the missiles are about to pass Garrus, he pops out and eats them whole...

Also, when you order a teammate to cover, sometimes when they get ''stunned'' by a biotic ability (Harbinger's ability that makes you go out of cover), they dont take cover again, they just stand there in the open and die... I dont have time to tell you to cover yourself everytime you get knocked off the damn cover...

collector's ship on insanity. i know its a popular place for grief, but holy hell bioware. i love your games, but the companions are morons. the don't understand that being shot is bad, and that they should go back into cover to protect themselves. seriously that is the most annoyed at a game that i have ever been, it took me like 40 tries just to get passed the first section. and then towards the end both Miranda and Thane got taken out again...by freaking husks!

Grunt. I'll be takin him and Tali on Insanity with my Infiltrator. Miranda's so "pafect" she thinks she can't die, which sucks cuz Bioware gave her the best talents (is she the ONLY one that gives squad bonuses?). I've never had Thane die but I've also never played on Insanity so we'll see.

In my first 3 playthroughs on Veteran diff I never used Tali cause her abilies are limited, but now on my current playthrough she is the only survivor and poping her drone on the enemeis that covers from my assaults. I go YAY! and in the mission after she eats rockets and dies. I have learned to use those that have AR and/or SR in my squad since they do less suicide runs. I miss the script option from DA:O where you could set some basic guidelines for their behaviour.

Sometimes my squad decides to take a break without notifying me. The battle goes real badly and I check the icons to see if my mates are dead but no they are alive and kicking..DOWNSTAIRS! That or they are covering behind boxes in another room even though it is a solid wall between them and the enemy.

Haha yep I do it all the time. Especially on the harder diffs you need to control your squadmates more and more. I find I don't have to control Tali that much and me being an Infiltrator, having that Drone and BOTH our AI Hacking creates quite a distraction. Miranda would be the best for the 3rd squaddie if her combats didn't blow. I'm amazed at how different each squadmember's combat tactics are. It really sets them apart from ME1. You change 1 squaddie in ME2 and the entire battlefield is changed, whereas they didn't make a huge impact in ME1 (mostly cuz if you're an Adept, you are a Biotic God).
One thing I won't tolerate is Jacob standing on my head and Miranda boxing me in. I swear I'll never forget that moment on Freedoms Progress, Jacob literally glitched out and was standing on my head and I couldn't move till I moved their asses over. Hilariously annoyingly liveable.

Yeah, Im thinking of playing as engineer with Tali and Zaeed, then replace him with Legion. Drones and AI hacking in mass ;)

Now, maybe this problem is a matter of perception. I can clearly see something marked "explosive container." It appears, however, that in whatever crazy language my squad mates speak, "explosive container" means "safe place to take cover."

It is, in fact, not.

My favorite is on the collector vessel, the preatorian. Was using jacob and grunt with shotguns and infernal. They just loved to run up straight under the preatorian shooting at it. Ofcourse it lands on them and kills them I kite it a few meters and then revive them. After wich they run up to the praetorian shoots 2-3 rounds and then it lands ontop of them again. I swore alot during my failed tries on that fight, especially since I had used cain on the ambush fight earlier.

Good thing I was engineer, smg to take down the praetorian barrier and finish off with heavy incinerate and heavy pistol.

I wouldn't recommend doing that. IMO Infiltrator is better because you get 2 awesome skills from the Engineer (Hacking and Incinerate), and you can deal more damage. With Grunt as my 3rd squaddie destroying things up close, I can "infiltrate" so easily.

Jacob & Miranda, both think they are Krogan, just had to give up on them doing the fans on Mordens recuitment mission, every time Iordered them to cover they either ignored me or climb on top off it, then charged off after the pack after next, getting killed by the group they ignored.

In the end I gave up & left them dead, while singularity/warp blasted my own way through!

Ahem, it was a dark and stormy night.

Garrus was dead again (unsurprisingly), and so was Miranda.

So I used 2 valuable medpacks to revive them mid-battle.

Miranda stands up next to me. But where's Garrus? He stands up...

SURROUNDED by 5 Eclipse Mercs and 1 Mek. >.<

Immediately Dies. I swear, Garrus is a cool character and a useful squadmate, but his AI package is completely LEERROOY JENKINS-esque

i tend to park them behind cover at the start of an area, cover they cant shoot from/get shot from, and kill everything myself. the only trouble is if its an extended fight, if you get a certain distance away they will leave cover and come after you, but normally im far enough away that it doesnt matter so much. i play vg btw.

I'll often order people to take cover behind a wall....and they'll jump over it and take cover in front of it.

same happened to me on the blood pack transmitter mission.  everytime the bugs showed up Grunt and Garrus ran away crying while i got torn to bits.  and whats with Grunt and Legions uncanny ability to activate their defenses right when you need his shot blast or other attack,  even though i have squad power use turn off.

I don't normally have too many issues with most squad members on the majority of missions except for Miranda.  Seriously, everyone talks about how she's such an awesome squadmate (and her abilities are awesome), but she dies more than anyone else ever no matter what. She's always the first to kamikaze or get stunlock killed by eating two rockets to the face.  Sure, you can always "park her in a corner" but it diminishes her worth when someone else could actually be there in the fight using guns as well and not dying.

She also has major issues following directions and tends to ignore where you tell her to move, or even after she moves there she quickly "forgets" where she was supposed to be and decides to do whatever, which usually results in her dying in the next few seconds.

All the squad AIs are stupid and tend to have problems following directions.  It's not so bad on the lower difficulties but on the higher ones, it's a real problem and you'll notice it more easily.

Miranda tends to be a squishier squadmate.  With the squad mates, you just gotta be a good judge at knowing if some cover will prove problematic for them.  You don't want to 'park her in a corner' but you don't want her to be in a position where the enemy will attack her first if they aren't attacking you.

The one I had trouble keeping alive was Jacob until he got barrier and was able to soak up some damage some more.  Jacob is a close combat character with his shotgun and tends to die pretty easily until he gets barrier.  He doesn't have health regen and alot of health like Grunt so he drops fast.

Seriously. His recruitment mission on Insanity is 3X harder because he won't just stay in cover while the mercs are delivering a constant barrage in his direction, from the lower level. I understand he wants to help, but can he alteast wait until his shields regenerate some before he jumps up from cover again. I kept failing this mission, not because I died or didn't protect him from enemies that charged to the upper level to fight him but from him being shot by those mercs on the first floor.

I do think the A.I. is an improvement over ME1, though, which I thought was pretty good (atleast with use of powers). It works well for most of a fight and then will decide that the teammate needs more danger in their lives, and they proceed to run out in the open.

Generally I really like it when I'm sniping something from behind cover at a distance, longer than my squaddies can target. I pop adrenaline rush, peak out from behind cover, site in on the head...and grunt walks right in front of me when I pull the trigger and stops the bullet.

Happened three times during Haestrom...sigh.

My favourite dumb AI moment so far, was while trying to close the right hand shutter during the Garrus recruitment mission. I'd left Miranda with Garrus and took Zaeed with me, only for the fool to forget how to use an assault rifle. Seriously, he would. not. shoot. He'd go into cover, pop off his impact shot then do absolutely nothing until the cooldown had ended then he'd use it again. In the end, a vorcha came the round the cover Zaeed was behind and shot him in the face for five or six seconds till his health was gone. Zaeed never even reacted to it being there.

Mordin. More than once, he was not only oblivious to the fact we were in combat, but he would stand behind me when I took cover, and physically obstruct the 3rd person view of my character...like he'd get in the way of me in real life, and my character, and even obstruct my view of the battle.

I found it pretty funny, though.

well, they still need to improve enemies and squad AI. I think that it will be insane if they put some 'Left 4 Dead 2' level AI. comparing to this zombie game, insanity level is just normal level in left 4 dead 2.
