Is the Fade quest ("Broken Circle") really that bad?

I've read quite a few complaints about tedium and length. I've only been through the game once, and I really enjoyed that part. Does it just age poorly?

Anyway a lot of people requested a mod to cut that part out but award the XP (like Dungeon-Be-Gone from BG2), and I started work on it, but it's asking a lot for something I may not even use. Writing down all the XP (and types of XP!), and the plot flags and codex entries to set, is a pretty big task in and of itself.

Actually I still have to research how to teleport the player and set those plot flags, the rest I've got figured out... (let me know if you can point me in the right direction for that)

I'm just wondering what the demand is for this, and the likelihood I, too will come to hate the Fade. It might have to wait until I get that motivation.

I enjoyed it on the first 2 play-throughs, but yes, it does get old. What makes it tedious for me is having to revisit several of the areas more than once.

It's one of my favorite parts of the game. Some people hate any type of puzzle. There's a thread by a guy who claims to have spent two hours trying to make it through the Gauntlet.

I hate it. It's tedious to play through more than once, because in your second playthrough you "get it" already and just want it to be over with. I've always felt the confrontations are frustrating and cheap (unbalanced), but mostly I think it's all the backtracking you need to do. You just want to get it over with, and that's not a sign that you're having fun. What's worse, you try to get through it quickly, but you have to make sure you explore everywhere and get all of the stat boosts. It's really the one thing that makes me not want to go to the Circle Tower, but I always want to do that one first for other reasons.

the first time was a little frustrating, but enjoyable. every playthrough for me now, I just fly through it, without an issue.

The game did need more puzzles.

Loved the ones in KOTOR, those made you think even on the console version.

It's not a puzzle. It's an exercise in patience. You just have to figure out which place to go. Your first time through, it's impossible to know the correct order, you just have to get to the end of each section, and if you chose correctly "Yay! A new form!"

Yeah, I could see that. It would be better if all of the powers were awarded at once. That would be a much simpler mod, and would be released more quickly. In fact, that mod might be more fun that skipping the quest outright.

I found the functions to teleport and set plot flags, by the way, which strengthened my resolve somewhat.

I don't hate it, but I feel very uncomfortable while playing it. All dream/nightmare levels in games tend to have that effect on me. And all of it started with Max Payne...

I have a sort of love-hate relationship with the Fade. On one hand, it's very interesting and I love the ethereal feel of it. On the other, after five playthroughs it's lost some of its mystique and I find myself rushing through it to get back to the Circle.

I enjoy bringing a different party with me every time. Their nightmares and their reactions to the fade can be very eye-opening.

But yes, the rest of it is just...tedious.

I also find the Fade tedious after a while. Of course, loving mages, I spend a lot of time there. Honestly, my biggest complaint about it is that it is blurry, and I have a hard time focusing. LoL My second biggest thing is the repetitive nature of it. I do like being thorough in my games, so I comb through it carefully, making sure to get all the stat bonuses and everything, but I usually have to do it in stages now, whereas the first few times I just smashed right through it in one sitting. It really doesn't take that long. I think it's just one of those parts where there is no variation, so it gets old. Plus, you're alone, so no companions to entertain you and take the edge off.

Does anyone else feel like the Fade section just drags out your time in the Tower? I guess the Tower would be kind of boring without it, because you're just in this gray monolith literally going in a circle, but it's like the Fade takes up a disproportionate amount of time and then when you get out of it, you realize, "Oh wow, I'm still supposed to be going up this tower." It's very jarring and it breaks the pacing. ... Kind of like how you feel in real life after waking up from a nap. Huh -- funny, that.

Yeah, this. The first time I went through it, I liked it. Second time was still okay. I find myself rushing through it now. I think it deserves to be there (Fade=Mage=Mage's Tower, duh) but, -sigh- it ages very badly.

I've done it twice and really enjoyed it both times. I got a kick out of being able to change shape and it was fun not having to be all tactical with combat -- shifting through different forms to take down an ogre is great. And I love the fade "menu" - wish other parts of the game were that cool and pretty looking.

But, I find the tedious thing to be true with all of the Blight plot lines and some of the side ones, where the "dungeons" just go on and on.

I enjoy it each time. I really have no idea why some people don't find it fun.  I still haven't taken each of the character in to see their dreams, and there are always new tactic to try. Still going strong for me.

I do enjoy it, it was an interesting design choice by the developers.

The first couple of times through it were interesting, but it is quite tedious to play through, but not that bad since you know your way around after a few times and can get the needed benefits fairly easily.

Honestly, having completed my first playthrough, I have to say, that this was the only part of the game that I just couldn't stand. The game was great, but this one part drove me NUTS. It was just tedious.

Basically I saw it as the one gameplay flaw in an otherwise fun game

Not my favorite part of the game but not my most hated. I usually just whiz right through it now. I really dislike the dwarven quest (the entire thing). When I first go in I want to just off Bhelen AND Harrowmont and make the Assembly leader King as he seems to be the only one who has a good head on his shoulders.

I enjoyed the Circle Tower/Fade least the first time, and more and more since then. Once I learned how to navigate quickly and obtain the forms, more time to just enjoy the bizarre trippy setting.

I liked it for the most part, and I still do.

I don't like the blur, especially since I can't turn it off in options, and the mod doesn't work either for me.

I don't like soloing it. I wish the companions I freed would stay with me.

I love the shape-shifting, that is fun. I also love seeing my allies' nightmares. It gives great insight into them.

And after a few times through, it really isn't all that time consuming any more.

I wish there were more opportunities to get an inside view of your companions. That is one of my favorite parts to the whole quest. I just wish you didn't have to see Wynne's every single time.

What's funny is that I like Broken Circle, just not Lost in Dreams.

I was wondering if you could do a mod so I could skip the dwarves, elves and Redcliff sections?  Oh..  Ostagar too.   I don't like that one either.   Oh yeah.   Could you cut out the origins story too?  I just want the xp and flags and go straight to the Landsmeet.

Come on, people.  The Fade is fun.  Besides picking up the 21 attribute points, and bunches of xp, it is fun to fight solo with a whole new set of abilities.  Using the right form at the right time is a challenge.   It is a great change of pace from the other stuff in the game.
