The beginning was rather difficult, so were horizon and the collector ship, the rest was fine. The more upgrades I received, the easier the game was. The suicide mission itself didn't even feel like Insanity anymore.

Soldier seems to be the easiest way to finish the game. Sentinel isn't too bad either. The Widow sniper rifle makes everything too easy and Cloak or Incinerate are very powerfull.
I haven't tried biotic or mech, but i tried vanguard and it's not very easy.
The challenge comes from the difficulty to adapt to a class gameplay in many different situations.
But you're right, once you're mastering a class, there's no way the game will be a challenge in Insanity.
The AI system is too dumb to make the fight much harder when you're outnumbered.
Only a few ennemies will come to contact.

The collector ship was pretty much the most difficult part in the game, don't worry. As soon as you're done with that, it'll become easier and easier.

7 hours? Must have been some speed run. I couldn't bring myself to not do everything on both my playthroughs - side missions, all loyalty missions, even starting up conversations with everyone I talked to that weren't necessary dialogue, because I just loved the game so damn much. Played through twice, 35 hours each playthrough.
My 2nd run was on insanity as an infiltrator. I'll agree, it wasn't that hard. The only part I had difficulty with was that damn collector ship (the first one you board). The first battle on that ship, where you're stuck on that first platform while others float towards you, really sucks when you have really dumb teammates that will try to gung-ho it and not take cover unless you micromanage their movements every 5 seconds (and even that doesn't always work)
Dont kill either Scion until you clear out the Collectors (first 2 floating ones)........Then whittle down both scions to nothing, Kill one, third floaty comes, Kill second Scion..............makes this mission a cakewalk once I figured that out.

I am currently playing with an imported ME1 lvl55 infiltrator. On Horizon the hardest part is the area directly after the mechanic, since you have simply no place to retreat to. For the two Scions at the end of this mission i used the glitch that you could already see and kill them after opening the door (but not going through it). That way you don't even have to fight the Husks at the beginning, since they simply don't appear (only the few together with the Collectors later on).

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! MOTHER****R!!!!!!!!!!
I just finished Horizon last night on my first insanity playthrough. I had to attempt that fight almost 30 times before I finally made it through. I reloaded over and over for almost 3 hours trying different tactics.
I gong to go finish crying now.

Starting with a new character is easier than starting NG+ from what I've heard.
You heard wrong. Having all your skills and weapons at the start + money to buy initial upgrades = easier.
The only hard part about NG+ comes from Soldiers playing easy-mode with all soldier squad that can't figure out why enemies with armor and barriers kick the crap out of them.
Insanity is not a difficulty level. This is how it works.
Normal - 0% shield barrier armor mechanics. all weapons and abilities work
Hardcore - 80% shield barrier armor mechanics - weapon choice is critical
Insanity - 100% Shield Barrier Armor mechanics - squad skills and wepaon choice critical some eneimes are damage type immune
Basically Insanity is just the game with all the stuff turned on. Players who run through the game on easier settings don't learn how the mechanics work but develop a "false mastery". By this I mean they develop mastery of the mechanics based on some mechanics being turned off.
What ends up happening is players turn it to insanity and because they developed false mastery they "believe" they understand the mechanics enough to be successful. Unfortunatley for them they mastered only part of the mechanics and they have to "relearn" how to do something they whole heartedly "believe" they already know. That is one of the hardest things to do in all aspects of life not just gaming. Trying to overcome your own mind and re-learn something is taxing and frustrating for most people.
It's that whole old dog, new tricks thing. People don't tend to recognize this in themselves though because again they "believe" and that's their only true barrier. I am certain this explains 99% of the "Insanity is too hard" posting that happens on these forums.
There's a reason Insanity states on itself that one should play through HArdcore first to learn the mechanics.

lol. This reminds me of the Firkraag fight. You spend hours trying to determine how you can set up your party to kill him right after meeting him. You finally do it and you're feeling amazing. You go on the forums afterward and see someone talking about how all they had to do was lay traps all over his feet before initiating, then cloud-killing from off screen.

Took me only 7 hours to beat it. I finished at only a level 18 soldier, I didnt do any side quest unless i had too (waiting for reaper iff to "install"). I only died a total of 8 times, 3 of those were from the end boss alone (it was 3 in the morning and i was just sucking). I got most of the upgrades (just all of assault, sniper, and armor ones).
I was just seeing if anybody else didn't have that much trouble with insanity, from what i have read it seems like alot of people are.CPxOLBx51 wrote...

What the... were you going for an "everyone horribly dies" ending? Even then, 7 hours? Is this a joke topic?
Well i beat it once already and had everybody survive, i did all side missions (even the little ones). And for the this second playthrough i actually wanted to have evertbody die, just to see the difference. I actually did not succeed at that because i had to do a couple loyalty missions.

At level 18 the enemies would not have been scaled all the way to the max. Since weapon damage is not dependent on level and you played a class that focuses on weapon damage, it explains why you had an easier time.
That having been said, the absolute worst part of the game on a fully scaled Insanity playthrough is the collector ship. Certain classes struggle like crazy during the very first ambush segment. Still only took me a few tries to beat that, and once you pull that off the rest of the game is a cakewalk by comparison. Didn't die a single time on the suicide mission and the final boss was just time consuming, not hard.
