I mean you have characters like Wrex, Aria, Jack to a lesser extent, maybe Samara, and so on. These characters, especially in the case of the first two, are portrayed as being top tier combatants. How does Shepard compare? I'm guessing he's less capable in combat than the top tier fighters, but he obviously makes up for that with leadership ability. That's just a guess though. Thoughts?

Shepard is like the Jackie Chan of Mass Effect.

He can't be beat, no matter what.

Are you kidding me? Shepard's a Zombie Cyborg and even before that he was the Chuck Norris of the Universe.

Unless your an Engineer or a Sentinel he's the more powerfuler than ANY of those. Grunt is probally the only one that could beat him in a 1 on 1 fight.

So now he's a Zombie Cyborg Chuck Norris?

Maybe if it was a fist fight, but not if they can use powers/biotics.

shepard is the main character. that makes him better them anything and everything in the universe at all times. though it is completely illogical and often times ridiculous, shepard conquers any challenge no matter what thru sheer power of being the player controlled character. reaper baby? small arms fire took care of that annoyance. sovereign? shepard managed to kill possessed saren so savagely that the pure lethal awesome sent a shockwave of death reeling back to sovereign. biotic god? a mere shove and the master of reality is down.

now seriously, they really need to give us an excuse to throw down with some of our teammates, because i currently have no idea how shepard would really fare.

Frotality, in my case at least, armor piercing fire from an anti-materiel rifle that would rip the arms off a normal human took down the reaper baby.

Don't get me started on eff'n Grunt. I teamed up with him, Samara and Jack on the biotic shield run. Samara was holding off a Scion, I was having a knuckle drill with 2 husks and an abomination while grunt with 600 health and fortification was laying on his ass knocked the f*ck out. Yeah, a real tough guy.

He/She's the only person we know of in the galaxy with the Cain, a portable nuke gun.

Really, no one else has a chance.

Shepard could even beat Grunt. Adrenaline Widow shot in the head with incendiary to get his armor down, switch to Assault Rifle with Cryo ammo, freeze him, and put him back in his tank.

Why does everyone think Grunts all that he gets a cheap shot on Shep and you still pull a gun on him forcing a draw. Also Shep can just talk anyone into anything at anytime.

You know, in ME1 when I played as Adept, I felt like the strongest biotic on the team. I was a biotic god, so to speak. In ME2, I felt like my biotic abilities should fail in comparison to people like Samara and Jack. Made me feel like less of a power house.

I actually prefer to think of Shepard as not being some massive powerhouse.

In terms of brute power I think Jack could probably kill my Shepard, but she'd never get the chance because Shepard's about ten times smarter and more tactical.

So, storywise, in a one-on-one fight without any cover, maneuverability or tactical advantages, I think there are a lot of people who could kill Shepard. He is just a human after all.

I thought this at first but for some reason Jack and Samara just never actually felt all that powerful as squad members  I mean the kick ass biotics they display when you first meet them seem to be well beyond anything they can accomplish the rest of the game.

Same goes for Garrus and Thane. But wouldn't it be boring to see a cutscene where they run around in the open, unable to get into cover, and get killed by enemies instead?

Shepard is a member of the most special special ops teams in the galaxy, and even before that he was a top tier spec ops soldier. He's got extensive cybernetic and presumably genetic enhancements, up to and including synthetic weave in his bones, muscles and skin, ocular implants/biotic amps/cloaking field or whatever else your class has. The man (or woman) is a walking powerhouse.

On top of that, he's a natural leader and/or badass.

You know I always felt it was unfair how Shepard was (statistically speaking) the strongest person in the entire universe. I mean he gets 52 squad pts in total while the others only get 30-31. I really don't think he needs to be THAT strong to lead his team. After all he is just the leader. No one ever said he needs to be the strongest.
