Really, No Outcry for a Batarian?

I am surprised that with the ability to build a team of every race 1) BW didn't include a Batarian and 2) the players and community don't seem to want or expect one!

I don't love Batarians, I just like the idea of having one of every combat-able race on my squad. Garrus had a Batarian technician. I know Shep has a history with Batarians (Mindoir/Torfan/Elysium/BDTS) but it would be cool to see A batarian who is not the stereotypical extremist/terrorist/antihuman/slaver.

If we could find a Batarian who had his own perspectives on global politics without being consumed by bitter jealousy, he could have great insight into Batarian culture now and before they ceded from the Council community.

I would ultimately like to find a way to re-integrate Batarians into council space. They are not enemies, they just got a raw political deal. The way Batarians reacted was totally inappropriate, but its decades later and SHEP can work out peace with them.

So with Kasumi as predicted incoming DLC and from the squad select screen, it looks like there is no more room for any other squaddies. Do you guys want a Batarian? Post your support!

I never forgave them for the events of Mindoir and BDTS. And slavery is central to their culture.

Sure, there are always exceptions, but they're dangerous people to be around.

They're hateful, ugleh and downright rubbish.

I'd rather have an Elcor, Volus, Hanar and Varren as squadmates than a bloody Batarian.

They're scum, the lot of 'em. Attempting to usurp our rights to colonize the Skyllian Verge, going crying to the Council that the big bad human race was stealing their planetary loots, emo-quitting the citadel and severing ties when they didn't get their own way and then funding criminal reactionary attacks against human settlements using banned WMDs (such as asteroid-dropping) .

Scum! .. I have enough scum on my team, thanks.

Hmm. I don't see all Batarians as bad. There's that one during Mordin's recruitment! You know, the one that's dying? He wasn't all bad if you saved him. And, really, the reason all Batarians you see are scum is because... well... they're the only ones that get out in space.

A Batarian squad member, though? Uh... sure. I wouldn't mind one, really, but I'm also not going to mind if there's not one. Indifference.

I agree with you Icinix, the Batarians you encounter in the slums of Omega are not all terrible. If anything, their perspectives were like the racists on these forums, dismissing the entire species of humanity because they had a bad first impression of them.

Blasto FTW! ...and, well, I have nothing personal against the possibility of an interesting Batarian charcter- a cross between Zaeed and Jar Jar- he's an ass, but screws things up in comical fashion... but is deadly.. like a Joxer The Mighty in the Mass Effect universe. That would be entertaining.

To quote one Kaidan Alenko (RIP good buddy) "Aliens are saints and jerks" just like everyone else. I'm sure there are many batarians who don't mind other races but are tightly controlled by the leash of the government.

I think they'll still have a role to play against the reapers too.

A Batarian Squadmate would only make sense if the Batarians become like a major antagonist group. Possible for ME3. He would like offer the counterpoint but yet an inside look to why the Batarians are the way they are and why they are such a threat now.

Edit - I can even see a possible dialgoue of, "Shepard, in the end. Humanity defeated the Batarians at their own game. Yet you were better than us at looking good to the Council. One thing I can tell you, we do not make for very gracious loosers."

I seriously hate them, I wish that indoctrinated Batarian foot soldiers are the main enemies in ME3 just so I can happily kill them as much as I love killing the Vorcha.

Batarians killed my parents when they raided my colony...they slaughtered my friends and family...then they tried to wipe out elysium. Well I showed those four eyed freaks when I personally killed dozens of them on Torfan. I thought I was done...but then they tried to drop a damn asteroid on our most populous colony, attempted genocide. You can be certain that Balak died on that rock and the hostages gave their lives so thousands more would be free from his tyranny.

They're slavers.  Until they can get a government that changes that, they'll remain on the outside looking in.

And of course there are decent folks among them...  But that doesn't mean that they're not enemies.  There are always decent folks in a country or people, but as long as they're not the ones running the show (and in the autocratic Batarian state, they're definitely not) they're no help.

edit -- a subplot to help a democratic revolution in Batarian space would be nice, though as we've seen yet again, those long under the yoke of tyranny acquire many, many bad cultural habits that take persistent force and encouragement to undo.
