Ok guys, I finally did it and I think that I have found which is the problem about this character_story.xml issue that I described in this thread.
At least, it has worked for me. I post in a separate thread so that Bioware and users can find a solution easier for this problem.

Bioware, please, take this into account so that it can be fixed in future releases of the game and web because I think it is important.

The problem is that, in the Spanish version of the game (and I assume, in other international versions), the .xml file that the game generates has accents in some of the place´s names (for example "El yunque del vacío as the Anvil of the void"). If you level up in one of this places with accents, the .xml generates a log with the name of the place and your stats. From that point, the file wont be no longer valid and will stop updating.

That causes an error in the xml (just check for validation in a browser like Google Chrome) causing that the Social Network cannot interpretate the data and showing the empty story tab instead of the log of your adventure. Here is the different steps I did until I manually almost fixed (I insist. I hope Bioware fixes this bug soon as seems a simple solution).

First try: I assumed that the English version of the game would "translate" the .xml once I loaded the savegame. So I downloaded the English language from my Steam version... and it did not work, as the Spanish names do not change and remain the same. FAIL.

Second try: I edit with a regular xml editor the wrong xml where the accents were present (in my file two of the lines were wrong because they had accents). I replace the accents characters for regular letters without accents. I loaded the savegame in an new slot... And it did not work. The game generates a brand new xml with the same errors/accents for each new savegame that you create. EPIC FAIL again.

Third try: Quite tricky. I edit the same xml following the same steps as described in the second try. Before start the game, I let opened the savegame slot  were I was going to save but I did not change the file yet. Back to the game, just load the regular savegame and be prepared to make things quick. You need to save in the same slot that you previously did, and inmediately go to your desktop and change quickly the edited xml for the erroneus xml file so that the game uploads the one you want. Result: Well, you can check my profile and see what is present in my story tab. It is now perfect with every single log in it.

Well, not yet perfect. I guess that because of the quick change, the diagnostic page has given me the famous 1005 error with more files upload. I think that this can be resolved although I will have to check it later. The most important thing is that the problem is resolved... And we know what the error was. Now Bioware, please, is your turn to implement soon.

Hope my post helps the wonderful Social Bioware community. Again, sorry for my English grammar mistakes if present.

Best,

T12.

Assuming you do not normally have trouble uploading files, can I persuade you to check if this is also the case for character names and the character xml?

You misspelled "story" in the title. You will want to fix that or the post is virtually useless given the site's search function.

Fixed, Snoteye, thank you for the advice and sorry for the misspelling.

I though that patch 1.3 was going to bring us a fix for this bug but unfortunately, the issue continues...

I tested it yesterday. I deleted my character (who was already OK in the site) and uploaded it "the normal way" again with the updated game. No luck as the character displayed everything but the story tab.

After that, I deleted again the character and repeated the process described in the first post of this thread... and everything became perfect in the profile again (BTW, without errors)

I wonder if Awakening will fix this or we will have to do it manually everything we want to update our profile.

I don´t know if devs/mods even read this thread and are aware of this issue...

Snoteye's helpful answer in my thread lead me here.

Now I have one remaining question: How fast do you have to be to get this working?

I tried to delete the player char online, backup a *_Story.xml to desktop, correct any invalid characters in the backed up file, save the game, alt-tab to desktop and replace the new XML file with the backup. Haven't had any success so far...

Could it be that this method is too slow? Or do I have to edit the newly generated XML file directly to get it right?

I'll see if the next profile update will do it. Would be a lot easier if they patched either the game (the German version of Awakening puts ö, ü, ä, etc. within place names, Origins used oe, ue, ae and worked fine) or used a filter when processing the files on the server that automatically changed invalid characters to valid ones.

Edit:

Haha, seems this time I was fast enough:

Ragadurn, level 35, story tab

I'm about to finish Awakening and everything that has happened so far is in. Great! :)

I'll try this again once I'm finished with Awakening to catch any remaining story events.

Thanks for finding this workaround!

The game should have converted those characters automatically, that's extremely basic XML knowledge and probably an oversight. I would suggest you edit a copy of the file, save, and then quickly replace the original with the copy.

You're right.

And, see my edit above, the last attempt was successful. Did it the way you proposed (and as I described it above).

Thanks to both of you, once more!

Ragadurn, I´m very happy to see that this workaround solved your problem. :)

In my opinion, the most quick method to make this work is to set the game in window mode at 800 x 600 so that you have accesss inmediately to your desktop and folder.

A couple of months ago, when Awakening was released I warned Bioware about the issue and how it could be easily solved. Hope they fix it in the next patch. ;)

As for patch 1.04 this bug was fixed. Thank you Bioware! :)
