You know I really really had high hopes for this game.

I was so thrilled by the graphics, the ability to mould my character the way I wanted.,the freedom of expression.being able to choose how fast or how slow I wanted to progress with my character. a totally new and unique experience.

I really, really wanted this and I thought Dragon Age Origins was everything I wanted;  until now

I think for me just as important as this (supremely)  just playing your character freely...No Trainers; No Cheats,  Until now.

You see all of that's gone because the wonderful experience is no more.

Instead, now I'm typing in the forum here the same eons-old problem which apparently no one seemed to notice in Dragon Age Origins

As usual (with every RPG I play including this one) I am playing on easy.
But as usual easy doesn't mean easy.
In fact it doesn't even mean moderately-easy
It means hard.

So here is my petition,,

I am at the Tower of Ishal

I must reach the top level which (as I'm sure you know) is guarded by an Ogre.

This Ogre however is unbeatable.

He may not be for your party but he is to mine.

Now before you venture to help me please consider what I have done to beat the ogre.

Switched every tactical setting to every different position for every character (asggresive, passive, etc) in probably 50 trys each one failing  (three to four hours worth of tries)

Used every Position (Moving together, moving seperate)

Used every potion (anything I could use within my inventory) to no avail

So here I am    What does this mean?   (This is sooooooo lame)

I'm playing a game on easy and I MUST get up to the top level and I MUST defeat this ogre and I can't do it on easy.

Well there's something reaaaaaaly realllly wrong with a game when I can't move ahead on a main quest task on easy because it's not easy.

It wasn't configured to be easy

So this is what I need help with

I'm not using a trainer or a mod or a cheat  so I need help

I suppose it's ironic that the vendor I bought from (gamers gate) hasn't offered any patch up to this point

I don't know whether it's safe for me to use a patch from other places or not

But I know one thing...

I cant proceed any further in this game without MAJOR help

I mean M-A-J-O-R

I cannot defeat the Ogre

I need someone here to intervene somehow (I don't know how) on my behalf

What is your current party composition? What is your PC (rogue, mage, tank, DPS)?

Tactics will depend on your party composition.

Tell me here. What is your character spec- is he a warrior, rogue or mage? Who else do you have with you apart from Alistair?

/I didn't have trouble with the ogre and would love to help.

I play on Normal, I killed the Ogre on my first try but I lost my Tower Guard.

I ran with Me, Allistair, Tower Guard and Circle Mage. Basically did my damage stuff, made Tower Guard taunt first, used every potion I had (about 6), he died, turned to Allistair, and the Ogre dropped when he was about 1/3 health.

Taunt is a very useful spell.

You know I wonder if someone who is experienced (and playing this) ....I could just send them the save-they could do the Ogre part and send it back to me?

That is IF someone is currently playing

There isn't much more I can do

Ive spent hours and hours of wasted time with this mess and I'm not going to make it any better on my own

This is N-O-T the way an RPG is supposed to be...plain and simple

I'd be glad to do it for you if that's what you want, but there are much harder fights up ahead.I think it would be better to help you achieve the victory you want yourself, but its your call.

whoever the ogre is attacking should run around in circles in that room. everybody else that has a stun move should use it while the ogre is chasing.

if its chasing the mage, try to get alistair to use shield pummel to attempt to stun it. i had my pet dog here so i never got to use the tower guard, but if the guard has a stun move too, use it. when the ogre is stunned, get the mage to cast paralyze on it. proceed with gang banging till he starts chasing someone again.

repeat process

Okay. So your character and mage will serve as the damage dealers, and Alistair and towerguard will serve as tanks.

1. Put health poultices on everyone's hotbar. Put lyrium potions on the mages hotbar. Position the mage far away preferably next to cover. Zoom out to get a strategic view. Make the mage give you guys flaming weapons. Do you have poison? Coat your blade.

2. Don't let your mage or rogue attack. Send tower guard in. Let him use taunt and lock on to the ogre. Send in Alistair too in a bit if the tower guard is losing health too rapidly just in case.. Most important tip I can give you? Give them a few seconds to lock on because if you rush in too early, the ogre may latch on to you and as a rogue, you will die. Or if the mage starts firing spells too early, the ogre will run after your mage and pulverize him in seconds.

3. Stealth yourself and flank the ogre when his back is turned to you and back stab if you can. You are the damage dealer, and have to be careful to retreat whenever you land a blow. Dance around him, approaching him only when he is occupied with your tanks. Like lifting them up and punching them.

4. Your mage has some damaging spells that he can use from a distance. He will provide additional damage along with your rogue. If his mana runs low, make him take Lyrium potions. Your mage cannot heal- unfortunately- so make sure he doesn't get hurt.

5. It is a long, drawn out battle. Pause often, take health poultices when anyone's health drops below 40%. When the ogre's health is low, it is okay to focus on Alistair and you instead of the tower guard.

Health poultices are the most integral part of this battle. Make sure you have at least 10.I used up 16. But I defeated the ogre with no casualties at normal so it was worth it. My party was different though - dps dog, alistair, my offensive tank PC and mage.

I finally was able to complete this part...you're right  it's only going to get harder despite my playing on easy and I can't even utilise a patch.  I'm really really disturbed about that-real bad!

I have another question if you don't mind- I have travelled for the first time and I am in Lothering

I want to get out of here and travel to the human capitol Denerim

Every where I move it says I am not allowed to travel

How do I get out of here then?

You can't just wander out in the wilderness because it says you can't do that

Best way to deal with the Ogre...

Kite. He moves slowly.

Set all your character to ranged attack mode -- the ogre will chase one character make him run in circles around the tower as the other barrage him.

When he switches to another character to chase make that character run in circles.

It takes a while -- but the ogre dies and you win.

(hint check the barrels for a gift to give to Morrigan)

Don't leave Lothering until you've done everything you'd ever want to there. There are two recruitable companions in Lothering, FYI.

Just some friendly advice.

ooooh boy I can see I'm going to have a real problem with this game.

Somewhere along the line someone decided to change (or rather hide from view) the definition of hard and disguise it as easy

I'm quite sure the two words don't add up to the same thing

Nonetheless I'm going to have to have biiiig help with this mess

Can you tell me where I can find trainers, cheat mods, any of that stuff for this game?

There's no way my characters will succeed naturally

I'm sending them twenty tries for one battle   and  no,I'm not changing my main character and I'm not throwing $70.00 down the drain

This is awful to come to this....I mean awful

Something has to give here

I need to buff the characters with HUGE amounts of stuff they don't have

Here's how I beat the ogre.

I let him aggro me, then I ran in a never ending circle until my archer buddy finished him off. Slow and cheap.

....its an rpg you dont need cheats.

You are playing on easy, which is shamefully really easy. as for the patch, you can get it from this site under "My games". as for the town you are in, talk with everyone, accept the quests etc. You cant leave the way you came, but you can leave on the other side. past the windmill.

As for the bandits, You can persuade and intimidate them to get away or to leave you alone. IF you like, you can even kill them. They are easy enough as it is.

Uh....

There are places with cheats, if you do need them, google is your friend.

But... you're having trouble with those? Are you positive the game is set on easy?

You are a weird person :s

You can't just say "ok, I can't do this, it's impossible, I better pray with cheats and ****" - part of the game's charm is to figure out tactics if you wipe, not just Hack'n'Slash like the good old Diablo days!

I found your post pretty offensive to be honest. I wouldn't mind helping, but I think it comes down to you being a bit too bad at this game. Well, maybe. Practise makes perfect I guess... we all wipe on encounters and have to adapt

Well, I play on easy too and still find it challenging enough to make it interesting. In Lothering, I did kill all the bandits and all without much trouble with what I had acquired thru my way. I know you need to really take your time to get all the chests and loot and little side quests all through the game in order to advance. Like someone said above, if you leave lothering after going into the Arl quest when you come back everyone will be dead, as happened to me on my first run through.... lol. I made a new toon so I could get the town back. Now I'm a bit more careful how I advance thru the quests.

I really like the difficulty level. I also play on easy and I can relate to the fact that it's quite challenging at times but it keeps the game interesting and it makes sure that I never feel too secure.
