What happened in the room at Fort Drakkon with Sandal and all the dead darkspawn? I like to think Sandal was a legendary Dwarven berserker with years of pent up anger. ENCHANTMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you ask Sandal what happened in the room, he says "ENCHANTMENT!" Ah the wonderful idiot savant.

My guess is he knows about enchanting runes that are more powerful than you can ever find, but he has them.

So he probably has a couple of Uber-Uber-Master Silverite Runes on him, that do +1000 damage to darkspawn. Just put them on a club of his, swung around, and took out that horde of dead darkspawn you see lying around him.

The bigger question is what happened to Bodahn.

In order to understand Sandal, you must first know who sandal is...
Sandal is the Dark Ritual Old God baby of Morrigan and Bhelen Aeducan.

I'll give that a second to sink in, now I'll explain.
Following the slaying of the Archdemon by the Grey warden recruit Bhelen, the darkspawn leader known only as the Architect used the darkest of blood magic to send the end bosses of Dragon Age:Awakenings to the tower at Fort Draken in the hopes that dropping level 35 boss mobs on level 20-ish wardens would be enough to prevent the slaying of said Archdemon.
The old god baby senses this plan and uses its old god baby powers to go back in time and be able to save mom and dad. It goes back far enough that it can grow up by the time it is needed. When Bhodan finds it, he names it Sandal.
Obviously being the soul of an old god is a rough way of growing up, so Sandal covers it up by pretending to be a Savant and only stating the word 'Enchantment' in an attempt to not pollute the time line while he waits for the moment to meet with the uber-darkspawn sent by the Architect.
Unfortunately the butterfly effect, and by extention Ashton Kutcher, caught up with Sandal and instead of Bhelen, The PC is pegged as the 3rd recruit. Morrigan is still mommy though, so Sandal continues his plans for the battle of Fort Draken.
During the assualt Sandal uses his god baby powers and warps into the room where the uber-darkspawn await the wardens. In a whirlwind battle of blood, sweat, steel, and possibly some drool Sandal proceeds to Enchant the holy bejeebus out of the entire room just before the Wardens enter. Unable to teleport away now that he is seen he simply produces a quantity of useful goods for purchase and sticks to his staple answer for everything...."Enchantment!"

And that ladies and gentlenugs, is why Sandal is in the tower.

First time I've seen a Sandal between the Darkspawn corpses I was like "WTF he steals my XPs!"

But Duncan is a bigger mystery for me.

The biggest mystery for me through my first playthrough was whether or not Loghain had somehow facilitated the Darkspawn getting into the Tower of Ishal.

Posted Image  Yeah, I was wondering about that too especially since Alistair pointed it out.  "What are all these darkspawn doing here? . . ."      To which I always replied, "You tell them they aren't supposed to be here!"

Realistically though, how would Loghain instruct the darkspawn to go for the tower?  Of course, it was by his orders that the tower was sealed off in the first place.  Did he already know that the darkspawn were excavating there?  As you may recall, the darkspawn were excavating in Orzammar to reach behind the dwarven lines before their plans were foiled.

In regards to the Tower of Ishal, one of the guards will say that you can't go there yet because they found some lower levels or something. I am pretty sure sure that a scouting party of Darkspawn came across it or something. I'd also be interested to know if the hive-type mind shown to possess the Darkspawn is capable of assimilating the knowledge of those who are tainted and turn into Darkspawn. That would explain an intimate knowledge of human fortifications at Ostagar.

As for Sandal, I still prefer that he's the incarnation of the Maker.

I've got a mystery, that isn't perhaps so mysterious, as it is controversial.

You might recall "Anora" revealing to everyone in the Landsmeet chamber the 'Super Secret Ritual' of the joining. She even points out that doing so 'might' kill her father.

Thanks Anora for completely destroying hundreds of years of secrecy!!

I suppose it 'possible' as Queen she might actually know about the joining, but to blurt out the secret in the middle of the landsmeet?? tsk.. tsk.... and you want to be Queen???

I don't think so....

On another note - I'm sorry, but the lighting of the tower to signal Loghain, was a stupid idea in the first place, when a simple horn would have sufficed.

Loghain obviously intended to betray the king from the get go.

Wait Anora actually says the Wardens drink the blood? I thought she just said it was potentially fatal. Riordan sounded like he was giving stuff away though... Still cryptic, but more than I would have said.

Anora says the Joining ritual can be fatal. She says nothing about darkspawn blood or infecting yourself with taint because only Wardens know about that.

I found this curious too. Loghain locks the tower up after finding lower chambers, having his men investigate. And when you get there there's darkspawn everywhere and all of the people who were stationed in the tower are dead. Then he quits the field and leaves everyone to die. Not only die...but be eaten by the darkspawn as well. Yikes! I just had to kill him after all that speculation.

I think the lighting-the-signal-fire-thing was just a way for the game to have Cailan send his brother out of harm's way, in case he fell in battle against the darkspawn - because there was supposed to be no darkspawn there and an heir to the throne would be needed. Anora tells your PC at the end of the game that Cailan knew all about Alistair. Ah, Cailan. I still get mad when I see him die. He was a cutie. :(

Here's a thought... I haven't played Return to Ostagar yet (have to upgrade my game - any idea how I do that, by the way?). Do you find Duncan's body at all? They implied that he was killed at Ostagar but faded out before you saw his body go down. Who thinks that this "intelligent darkspawn" in Awakening could possibly be Duncan or someone else who fell at Ostagar and they've somehow been recreated as these intelligent monsters?

The biggest mysteries for me were the unique items that were bugged, or unplaced in the game. It's why I have an entire thread dedicated to them now.

There is not just one talking darkspawn in awakening. They seem to be the new enemy type we get to fight a lot.
Besides there now being videos and screenshots showing talking darkspawn in different coloured armour, they also wield a whole range of weapons. And there even is a screenshot where there are two of the talking darkspawn fighting the player.
