Interesting that you all just assume that I am wrong in my factual evidence of the MMO demographic, so I did a quick search and BLAM http://dataforbreakfast.com/?p=107. Notice that around 70% of the ages are 28+ then above that the ages still consume the majority of players, very close to my mostly 30+ example. Also when I said losers, notice the percentage of people who have never had a relationship... or children. Now I really would like to conclude this little debate with "I told you so."
BUT I can't seem to find the site that shows how the majority of MMO players are fat slobs who have medical problems directly associated with their addiction to sitting on their fat butts playing MMOs all day.
Oh, you're a trip. First of all the 'young' person who presented that information admits he doesn't know the data source. As much as that data could be correct, it could just the same be incorrect. You can't put that much faith in everything you see on the internet. But let's entertain the idea that it's correct. The bulk of the players surveyed were between 18 and 30, with a smaller blip around 34.
Let's look at the 18-30 range. The only demographic chart worth comparing against that is the marital status chart- as the region and chlidren chart mean NOTHING . 18-30 is pretty much the range in which people are in college and likely have time to play, or out of college and not quite married yet, where you have both time and money to play. In that case it's
not at all surprising that none of them have kids- which is, in our culture, COMPLETELY ACCEPTABLE in that age range. What's even more interesting is that there's an almost even amount who are currently married or living with someone- proving that there's at least a market there for married folk, and that not all the players surveyed are "losers with no lives" as your strange standards allow you to claim. There is nothing dorky about having a family. And this also covers those who would be in the upper part of that age range who might have gotten married or moved in with someone earlier than others- a large group of my friends got married between 25 and 28.
As for that blip around 34, well they would also likely fall into the "married or living with someone" bin but in my mind would begin to account for those who also have children. Economically, it makes sense. Many MMO's don't require a console or extra high-end equipment, meaning people can play at least casually with the computers they already have.
You obviously have no experience actually interpreting data- so you definately can't say "I told you so" and your debate is far from concluded. ...But maybe you should consider it so now, since you don't know what you're doing. Above all, nobody even cares about your little demographic perspective- you came here trolling and there's no reason to attack people like that.
[Edit]: Let's just put the lid on this thread now. As for the statistics you regurgitated based off of that survey, the statement "70% of the ages are 28+ then above that the ages still consume the majority of players" is an incorrect interpretation. If the range "28+" consumed 70% of surveyed players, the chart would look drastically different from what you see there. No, adding up a bunch of 1%'s and 2%'s does not =70%, let alone 40 or 50% so those above the age of 28 definately don't "consume the majority of players" There's a large group of players between 18 and 28 that you're leaving out, and statistics is about looking at trends and those majorities that are statisticaly significant. All that 1% and 2% data to the right is hardly so. Statistically looking at that chart would tell you that the majority of the players are between 18 and 30, for which an explanation can be found in my previous paragraphs. And again, the data on who has never had a relationship or children definately makes sense looking at the age demographics. You have to ask "Which charts/data actually
mean something?" and above all, "Does the data make sense."
