I apologise if this has been posted before. I tried doing a search but didn't find anything.
If its been done before then delete the post. I don't care. Just getting this off my chest helps[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/angry.png[/smilie].

I am really mad!
I buy DA:O knowing that it has a disk check to verify the game.
Fine, I can live with that and it was generally accepted that this is a compromise between copyright protection and user convenience.

But the download content is a totally different matter. I have only just now realised that my game now relies being able to connect to EA servers EVERY time I want to play.

A couple of days ago the EA servers were having problems. When I tried to play, my character was left in his undies!
All his armour relied on DLC meaning that he had no armour if I couldn't connect......meaning I couldn't play my game.

This is a SINGLE player game. I shouldn't have to rely on an internet connection to play it. Fair enough for a one off check...heck M$ does it for Windoze but to have to do it every time I want to play?! And fair enough for a MMORPG.

I paid for my game....I paid for my DLC. The only way I could install my DLC was to have a verified version of the original game. And yet still you insist on checking my game everytime I want to play.
It stinks.....no wonder people feel the need to use cracks!

My rant is over...thanks for reading. I feel better but still rightly pi$$ed off.

As far as I am aware, if you disconnect from the internet you actually don't require verification - its only when you're online/logged in that you need it to be authenticated.

You can play offline with all your DLC content. Just log out of your account in-game, then fire up the game and continue as before.

Yes, people "feel the need to use cracks" because they can't read the manual or see the giant button to play offline right on the main menu screen.

I often feel the need to steal cars because I forget where I left my keys, and I never pay for groceries because the checkout lines confuse me.

Perhaps you can tell me what page in the manual (yes I can read) it tells me I should not log on to play the game when the EA servers are not working because I cannot find it.
I have my game setup to automatically logon when I play because at times I get some sort of message that says I need to be online to access my DLC.....or something like that. I must take more notice next time as to exactly what it says.
And using a crack is like hot wiring your OWN car or leaving the groceries behind if the checkout line is too long.
Ill informed people often confuse the use of cracks with piracy. Your analogy's are quite stupid and wrong and imply that I agree with stealing. <_<
Thanks for going to the trouble of posting a nice picture though. Very, very informative and a massive help to a dumb ass like me.

A more sincere thank you to the other people who have informed me on what I was totally unaware of. I now have no problem with the DRM.
Thank you. :)

Sloth, no need for the condescending post. As far as I'm aware, it's NOT explained in the manual how to play with your DLC off-line. To further confuse things, you often get the message that the game contains DLC which must be authenticated (or something to that effect) when you load a save, which leads people to believe you must be on-line to play it. It's not exactly an intuitive system.

I thought this as well. But i was wrong. However if you got your game through steam then yes you do need to be online and logged in to your Steam account,as well as your DAO account to play. This is the beef i have with Steam.I bought the DLC and i  only needed to login to download it.Thats it.Once it was bought and paid for,i can play my game offline all the time with the DLC.This is why i switched from a steam account to an EA account.Which you can do easily as long as you have your key.I havent had any trouble going through EA directly.

The reason it wants you logged in is to update your character on the social site. As others have pointed out, once you've authenticated your DLC the first time, there's no need to be online in order to use it.

Using "automatically logon" might be your problem. I did that on my first play through. I saw Sten in his undies and lost Warden's Keep for the rest of the game. My second run through I always logged in manually or didn't bother at all. Everything ran fine. All my DLC stayed in the game too.

Now theres another piece of info I wasnt aware of.
Thanks for that OnlyShallow89.
I also thought that I needed to be online to play all my Steam games.

Gosh, it was well worth me having my pissy fit and posting, otherwise I might never have realised that I didnt have to be online to play games afterall.
I now am happy to purchase more DA:O download content and also more Steam games. ^_^
My wife however will probably still consider it all a waste of money.

Thanks for the helpfull replies. :)
