Kaidan and Jacob are not hated... they are just viewed as "boring".

Kaiden was boring, but bearable. Thing is he generally has very little redeeming quality. On the other hand there's very little reason to dislike him to begin with.

Jacob, on the other hand, really gets on my nerve with his holier-than-thou attitude. Remember how he badmouthed Thane when the latter come onboard? I was like, "No one asked you to speak... you c**t, last time I checked you're just a hired gun yourself!" Idealistic people like him wouldn't be able to survive the real world. Who doesn't want to shoot him in the face?

What realy got me was the remark after recruiting Tali, he deliberately brought up the topic of having an AI on board and suggested she meet it...I think I may send him through the vents this time...Yeah no Jacob in ME3 then.

Sorry off-topic, but I still don't get this part. Is this a geth reference that pushed Tali's buttons?

Well all Qurians are very touchy to the subject of AIs as it reminds them too much of the Geth. They were bascially blamed for creating the Geth from VIs that evolved into AI.

I'm pretty sure it was deliberate.  Tali was being seriously ****y and rude to someone she had barely traded words with before then.  I think it was just his sly way of returning her venom.

After what cerberus did you cant blame her.

i still don't think the AI comment was malicious. just insensitive. he was very welcoming to Tali up to that point, even in spite of her attitude.

Jacob's comment wasn't purposeful. He was actually trying to be helpful and didn't really think about what he was saying. He was quite fond and respectful to her overall throughout the game.

Correct.  Jacob would not have said that if he knew it would offend Tali.  Quarians are not exactly proliferate out of the Flotilla, so he probably just did not know not to say that.

I don't know why Tali did not say anything to him, but I suspect it is because she was stumped by his apparent sincerity juxtaposed with that flagrant faux pas.

Jacob even remarks that Tali is going to freak when she hears about Legion.  Jacob is obviously concerned for Tali.

Kaidan even has nice words for Tali in the elevators...something about hopefully since Tali is helping stop Saren people will temper their harsh judgments of Quarians in light of her service to the galaxy.

I think they are both cool characrters.

I hated kaiden, he just complained and I hated Jacob becaus of the fem shep dialouge.

I never minded Kaidan, usually saved him over Ash.  I actually liked Jacob on my first ME2 game with a male Shep.  My first FemShep game though I couldn't talk to him at all, it was ridiculous.

Uh, I think it was pretty clear he intended it to be insensitive after her making comments about Cerberus.  Shep needed a renegade interrupt there to tell him to keep his mouth shut.

No it wasn't deliberate. Remember, Jacob has exactly the same reservations about Cerberus that Tali (and likely Shep) had. He made no secret of this. He understands mistrust about them. My Shep was far more rude about Cerberus to him.

Jacob did not have Shepard's first experience with Tali or other Quarians. Was probably the first one he met. It was stupid and insensitive, but not purposeful. He just didn't think the comment through. He's a nice guy to nearly everyone and did act respectful to Tali overall.

If they wanted it to be a purposeful jab, they would have had Miranda deliver the line.

If nothing else, Jacob is a consummate professional.  I do not think he would deliberately insult somone like that.  He is up front about things.  It's not his style to be sneaky and evasive about insulting someone.

Yup right from TIM's mouth: "Jacob mistrusts Cerberus, but at least he's upfront about it."

It would be horribly out of character for him. I say this as a huge Tali fan who would have absolutely headbutted Jacob for making insensitive comments if the renegade option popped up for it. Posted Image

Just leave kaidan on virmire and use Jacob for the tech assignment.

And there you go, the two most hated characters ( or with the lowest scores, or wathever) are out of your game

This.

Anyway Tali didn't seem that torn up about it.  Even after EDI takes over the entire ship she never mentions it.

But I could have another vermire in ME3, and because of that if I kill himI may have to sacrafice someone I like, keep him until ME3, and kill him then.

You're wrong, he was clearly being sincere, and was simply unaware of the stigma. It was a way for the writers to get Tali's response to finding out about EDI, without specifically putting in a 'freak out' scene.

Right is Jacob supposed to be some sort of Quarian expert?

Besides it is not like Tali was going to be working on the ship and not figure out there is an onboard AI eventually.

Umm...I'm not French, but I know about the French Revolution. Germans aren't Americans, but they know about the American Revolution. There are basic elements of history and culture that spread essentially through osmosis.

And you're implying that Jacob, allegedly bright guy and well-heeled Cerberus operative wouldn't know enough about Quarian history to know WHY they all live on ships?

I used Tali and Garrus.

Well, just speaking for the ladies, the most common reason I've seen for disliking Jacob is FemShep's horrendously over-flirty vocal delivery when talking with him.

As for Kaidan, I think he's a lot more popular with girls than with guys, and more guys than girls play this game. *shrugs*

Basically. Kaidan was written for women, and so if you don't get to the parts where he's sweet and makes you melt, there's not much there, he's just a dude with biotics.
That's what I feel with Garrus in ME2, the only reason he's better is because we knew him in ME1, if he was a brand new character in ME2 and NOT a love interest he'd be a very weak character.

So the problem isn't the characters themselves, it's the lack of character dialogue and progression outside of their LI conversations please have all characters the same length in terms of progression and then ADD the LI dialogues, so you get more if you romance then and not get less if you don't, as is the case now.

I disagree about Garrus, though he doesn't have as many conversations with a maleShep as with a LI he does come across really well and is probably considered the 'bro' of many Shepards, my own included, instead of Jacob, who tries too hard to be your bro and so fails.

How are Ashley and Miranda any more interesting?

"My daddy made me perfect"
and
"I don't trust aliens"

Aliens are most interesting but nobody ever mentions how boring Miranda is etc just Kaidan or Jacob

I though all the human squaddies so far have been boring, Zaeed doesn't count because he doesn't even have actual dialogue.

I don't hate them. I just don't find them interesting whatsoever.

Yeah but considering how Tali and him were acting towards each other prior to that then it makes him look bad if not at least suspect.

True, and he did act like a dick towards Thane.

I suppose it is possible he was being secretly hostile.

I've always liked Kaidan, he had an interesting backstory, good personality and a sexy voice.

Yeah Raphael Sbarge > all. Don't deny it.

Jacob on the other hand is just bland.. filler.. never use him.. barely talk to him. He's just not interesting in the slightest.

When I played a female Shepard, Kaidan's concern was rather touching and I found him to be an interesting character. When I played a male Shepard, Kaidan blended into the bulkhead and I forgot he existed. This is something I think Bioware improved upon in ME2, as I felt like getting to know my crew wasn't cut short just because I chose not to romance a character. I was even surprised to get Thane's "siha" nickname without romancing him.

Now Jacob... I feel bad for thinking he's a boring character. I can't figure out why, other than maybe he truly is eclipsed by every other member on that ship.

Even if true I guess you think the right thing to do is not tell Tali about the AI at all?  Just say 'eh screw her just let her find out on her own'?

I guess that is the polite way to handle things in your book, secrets and lies?  If she is going to work on the ship she should be introduced to EDI.
