While its a great intro/prologue....it soon gets old when starting a new character.

Well, Bioware spent a lot of time, efforts and resources to make those cinematics, so they want you to appreciate them. And then appreciate them again. And again. So no skipping, sorry.

No, but i alt-tab to desktop and read these forums while the intro plays. Poor Ashley/Kaidan/Liara are waiting for Separds response for ten minutes while the collectors are tearing Normandy apart

I just change to television and watch something for 5 minutes.

Just do something else while you're waiting.
Edit: Like those two said. ^ xD

'fraid I also Alt-Tab and do something else. More annoying are the Bioware and EA cinematics when starting. All are annoying.

I wish there was a way to skip past most of those new game intro movies. I'm always trying to change my Shep's face to my liking, and it's irritating to do all of the intro movie each and every time I want to change my Shep's look because I thought my last version was too ugly once I started to play....

I find every version apart from the default version of the male shepard to be ugly. It just seems to be more realistic to me.Groggy Grognard wrote...

I've personally made the Shepard face on the box art redundant in every single playthrough of both games I've done.
In response to the original topic: WON'T LET YOU. Sorry 'bout that.

On the PC
\\Program Files (x86)\\Mass Effect 2\\Binaries\\MassEffect2.exe -nomoviestartup
Add the -nomoviestartup flag to the end of shortcut path to the mass effect 2 exe. This will disable ALL movies (black screen while loading data). You can use this until your character is set up and then run the game normally when playing, to still see the other movies.
Or you can just move the offending .bik movies from the movie folder in the game's installation, same result. A point of interest here though is the game uses the movie sequence of your lazarus rebirth to read the head morph data from your character save. When importing a save it will display either the default Shepard face or the face of the last Shepard you played (its stored in cache).
The save will still import the right face, it just won't show up in the lazarus import screen.
To fast forward the engine rendered cinematics you can't skip, like Miranda and TIM's introduction, the text about the past events, and everyone evacuating the normandy, just make a 'fast forward' bind in your coalesced.ini, under:
[SFXGame.SFXGameModeBase]
Bindings=( Name="Right", Command="SloMo 8 | OnRelease SloMo 1 | SkipMovie" )
This will make holding down the right arrow zip through engine rendered stuff like cinematics, dialog (you can still pick responses) and even boring fights or long walks. Releasing right returns the game to normal speed. Remember to recompile your coalesced.ini with something like me2inifixer.exe or similar, because you're adding a line not just making a slight edit.

@Crunchyinmilk
this kind of modification is risky. the Game might not work after that

There's no risk at all to adding --nomoviestartup to a shortcut.
I did mention the need to recompile the coalesced.ini if you decide to go that route. There are many guides on this social site and elsewhere detailing how to safely edit this file.
Temporarily moving the movies out of the movie folder is also hardly risky.
Personally I love the fast forward bind, I use it all the time and have had no ill effects from it.

No, you can't. And I don't know how so much people have trouble with the character creator. I made 3 Shepards, 2 males and 1 female, and it took less than an hour to make them look good. But I can't post an image because I play on the Xbox.

HOW TO REMOVE THE INTRO MOVIES:
1) Go to your Mass Effect 2 folder in your Program Files.
By default, this is located at :
Program Files\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\BioGame\\\\Movies\\\\
2) Find the following files:
ME_EAsig_720p_v2_raw.bik
BWLogo.bik
3) Change their names to anything you want. I find the easiest way is to just add a semicolon before the names, so they appear as:
;ME_EAsig_720p_v2_raw.bik
;BWLogo.bik
4) Launch ME2.
HOW TO GET TO THE CHARACTER CREATION SCREEN THE FASTEST:
1) Go to your Mass Effect 2 folder in your Program Files.

2) Find the following files:
ME2_Opening_SunMid_INT.bik
Opening_End_Seq.bik
Opening_End_SeqFM.bik
Opening_Seq_INT.bik
ProNor_Pod2.bik
ProNor_Shepard_Rebuilt.bik
ProNor_Escape.bik
ProNorEscapeAsh.bik
ProNorEscapeKaid.bik

;ProNor_Shepard_Rebuilt.bik
;ProNor_Escape.bik
;ProNorEscapeAsh.bik
;ProNorEscapeKaid.bik
4) Launch ME2.
You still have to watch the debrifing of TIM and Miranda, but this is the only real "long" scene you'll have to watch.
