I am currently aware that Dominate rewuires you to have the enemies defenses stripped, but what is the cooldown time?

I am currently aware that Slam has a cooldown time of 3 seconds, but can it be used on enemies with defenses? If so, is it usefull?

I am currrently away from my Xbox(vacation), so if any of  you could answer I would be greatfull. I am currently building a Vangaurd and would like to use Slam or Dominate instead of investing 2 points in Shockwave for Pull.

Build:
10 Inferno Ammo
10 Squad Cryo Ammo
10 Heavy Charge
1   Shockwave
0   Pull
10 Destroyer
10 in Heavy Slam, Crippling Slam or Enhanced Dominate

I played Infiltrator, and maxed Slam out. Comes in really handy, very useful, and I think, way better than Dominate. Cannot be used on shielded enemies, but once shields down, go for it. Great for those stupid husks and any other time you are "overwhelmed". Usually kills the enemy, if not, they lay there seriously stunned, and you can easily finish them off!!

Slam is only useful against husks, and it's not any more useful than pull or shockwave. I think dominate has more uses.

Neural shock has the same 3 sec cooldown as slam and the disable lasts longer, plus you can add an AoE. It only works on organics, but for any class with disrupter ammo that's a non-issue.

Slam works on anything, even with shields or barriers. Obviously if no barrier or shield, works immediately - throwthem up, slams them to ground. If shields and /or barriers, will damage them, then subsequently throw them up and slam them down. I've slammed FENRIS & LOKI mechs, Blue Suns Troopers, Blood Pack Troopers, Warriers and Pyros, Varren, Vorcha, Eclipse Troopers and Heavies, Collector Drones and Abominations, Geth Recon Drones, Humans (Jacob's mission), and Klixen (this is great, they explode when slammed and so damage things near them, that are not me or my squad) Slam was especially useful in Grunt's loyalty mission, as we slammed Varren and Klixen around. And, on Derelict Reaper mission where I slammed husks and abominations around, thus saving ammo. So, don't know what info VirtualAlex is basing his "..."only useful against husks" statement, try it yourself and make your own decision. If you save the game before you change your Power, and don't like it, go back to that saved game!

for Vanguard, between slam and dominate, I'd go with dominate. for infiltrator, it doesn't really matter, you sit back, cloak and snipe anyways.

How does Slam work in enemys with defenses? I didn't get it.

IT damages them. Not by much though... I'd imagine an infiltrator would be better off taking the shields and armour off beforehand using SMGs and Incinerate.

Does it still slam them though? Or is it just some token damage?

Not that I remember. It just hit them and their shield went down a bit. Same sort of thing that happens if you fire a Pull at a protected enemy.

Remember, you have a team with you. So, with all those enemies I listed previously that don't have defenses, works 1st time and I targeted those, working with the team. (In between sniping, of course!) Those enemies with defenses, your squad is attacking with weapons or biotics. When defenses down, I helped out with slam. And yes, JaegerBane is correct - as Infiltrator, I used Tactical Cloak and weapon to remove defenses and then slam for more damage efficiency. Best though, is using Widow Rifle and "sniping"....while Cloak recharging and until target reappeared, I'd slam enemies around (especially those making a run on me!) . Example - usually Garrus or Thane's 1st shot would take out the barrier or shield of an enemy, then I'd use slam on them. Garrus and Thane could then target another enemy (sometimes, their loyalty would kick in, and they would provide me with cover).

Again, keeps dangerous enemies (like Klixen) at a distance, while focusing on tougher enemies. Just my preference........

Yeah, every power do some damage, but from what the guy said I thought it still working even if the enemys had defenses.

I'll be honest and say that I didn't use Slam much. I only took it to the third stage, and didn't like it very much. Dominate, however, is my bread and butter.

Dominate is an absolutely fantastic talent, and I can't imagine playing an Adept without it. You can tie up enemies almost indefinately by using it. It regenerates fast enough to keep an enemy constantly dominated at higher levels and they regularly fight amongst themselves, making it much easier for me to take them out.
