Yeah randomly deciding to bring this geth on board considering all the ones I didn't bother on made no sense to me.
Er... not really random. He helped you through the Reaper, spoke to you, is wearing N7 armor, and knew your name. I'd be pretty damn curious.

I agree! But not at the time you have to make a snap decision about bringing him on board. I wouldn't have put a bullet in him, but I would have just left him there.
Both EDI and Legion can be fully trusted. Its all in your mind.Console Cowboy wrote...
also to erase EDI as your first act as commanding officer.
AI are not to be trusted. Shepard knows this.

He also took lots of damage and lay on the ground like every other Geth body I've seen in the past. Also on Tali's Loyalty quest we've learned very directly what a bad plan bringing even parts of a geth onto a starship is.
Curious or not bringing him on board and storing him in the ship AI core is highly stupid.

EDI is a Cylon, to hell with her!

They manged to make more; a single geth is supposed to have as much intelligence as a 'animal'. And as far as the AI core goes, yea, it's not the ideal place, but Legion can connect from anywhere on the ship anyway.

That's cold and rather short sighted.
Here's a Geth who's fought on your side for reasons you don't know, it's worth taking him at least.
Putting him in the AI core? Not so much. For prudency's sake, put him next to an airlock while you observe him, if he acts up out he goes.
But again Legion in the AI room isn't the dumbest room decision on the Normandy, and frankly I trust Legion more than I trust Thane or Jack.

They should give you the option to remove EDI, and then when the collectors board the ship about 2/3 of the way through you get a BAD END.
T'would be hilarious.

Was he saving my life or just a very bad shot? He was firing a gun in my direction. Impossible to tell at the time, and he did have a big hole in him. He could have been malfunctioning very, very badly.
No way to know and too risky to find out. (Again: Tali loyalty mission. Geth parts on a starship, very very stupid)
Its not about trusting him once you wake him. Thats entirely different. Its about making a snap decision at the time you were leaving the Collector ship. I had much more important worries at that moment than a Geth stalker.

Somewhat of a moot point since Legion is networked to an extent, and even if they didn't know that they know he's more intelligent than an animal by virtue of his decisions and him talking.

You might think that if he later on hadn't turned up to open the core for you and got whacked by Husks trying to help you.
He either represents a whole intact Geth (something nobody has ever recovered) or a potential ally. And he knows you by name. That's worth taking along at least.

i would have been perfectly happy if doing so resulted in NPC deaths and would absolutely import this play into ME3.
my issue is that i felt like making nice with EDI and recruiting Legion felt out of character for who i see as Shepard. several people have mentioned giving it to Cerberus as an option, but for my (Sole Survivor) Shepard that was no option. she hates Cerberus almost as much as she hates AI.

I saw a Geth getting whacked while trying to hack a terminal. All I knew is he was trying to reach it before I was. Maybe he was trying to take the info I needed? Nothing about that scene looked like 'helping' to me. You may have interpreted the scene differently, but thats my take on it.

Alternate reality where legion is not there:
Shepard and his squad have their backs up against the door, assult rifles unloading on the never ending waves of Husks. the reaper core is right behind them, but they have no way of opening the door, the controls are on the other side. Soom their ammo count reaches zero and they engage husks in hand to hand combat. it isnt long before they grow exhausted and are overtaken by the swarm.
CRITICAL MISSION FAILURE.
