Your best bet is to read some reviews and watch some gameplay trailers (there should be plenty out there now) to see if it fits in with what you consider good gameplay. Once you have an idea what the game plays like, you could get some clarification here on anything that concerns you.

Absolute crap, we all just come here because the site is so well laid out.
Well, games that get 4 stars out of 10 often have fans on the official site.

You're likely not going to get an unbiased answer here, since pretty much everyone here is a fan of the game, so they'll in all probability tell you it's worth getting.

Well, I've done that, so to add some more info... is the combat any fun? It is in real time but it is also like a JRPG, so does having the combat in real time make the game fun?

The gameplay is alot better than turn based RPG's. It's basically an action game when you're in combat, except for the fact that your character hitting an enemy or getting hit by one is based on stats and not your button-mashing skills. You can move your character around and chose which attacks they make and what not, but you don't have a button that "blocks" or ones that attack in different ways ala Devil May Cry and Zelda or what not. The combat is addictive, however, and takes quite a strategic mind. Where the game really shines is the story and characterizations. You really become immersed in the experience and many of the enemies actually seem to have some reason for being there. It really is worth at least a rental to give it a try, and then you can decide whether it's for you. I can go from this game, to MGS4, to DMC4 and then Heavy Rain because they all offer a different experience. I'd suggest you give it a go.
I can play combat like that. So all that remains is:
How long is this game? And how long can you get out of it when trying to do everything the game offers?

When I said that, I meant that it has combat like that, you don't actually attack like a game such as...Dante's inferno, or a game where you use buttons. Two worlds, Gothic, Risen or whatever.

Everything? 100+ hours. A fairly rushed playthrough clocks at about 50 hours.

If you are looking for a nubfest hack'n'slash, this is not the game for you. Many people find the initial learning curve to be quite steep (once you get the hang of it, it is easy though). If you enjoy a tactical approach to combat and a god story you will like it. If you think diablo clones are the height of RPGs, your brain will explode and you will die horribly.

As for the gameplay, it is not your average hack-and-slash like Diablo. Its real-time pause and play, much like a pseudo turn-based game, unless you play the game at lower difficulty settings. What this means is that you will often need to pause the game, make orders, unpause, and see the battles unfold. Its not for everyone.
Personally, I think the game is worth it. The gameplay is quite strategic, the story telling is fairly top notch, and the world is very immersible.

it's pretty tough to say whether the game play is 'fun', since that's so subjective. To me it is. To you it may not be, but if you like what you've seen in your research, then I'd say you'll probably enjoy it. There are enough skills and talents available for your characters to use to make it more interesting than just a 'click once and watch them swing' type of game, and many of the encounters require some tactics and strategy to get through successfully.

Or a second or third playthrough where you do everything but know exactly what to do and in what order for max efficiency.
I think my dalish elf who didn't miss a single quest did 53 hours. But that was my third playthrough and I switched to easy during a certain part of the game that I didn't feel like spending too much time on.

Yes, it is absolutely fantastic and while you are at it pick up Mass Effect 1 and 2.

Ha! I played Mass Effect 1.. sadly it wasn't amazing for me as some people claim it to be for themselves. Mass effect 2 looks like ME1 so I'll avoid it. But a medieval game where you have a party and alot of content and great RPG elements (So I hear), sounds like a buy for me now.

1) traditional CRPG gamer vs someone used to MMOs. The second is expecting an action game with minimal dialogue. Often they've come over to DA from Mass Effect, thinking the game would be more or less an action-oriented game like ME. The first is used to traditional Bioware games and spends time doing everything and talking to everyone. Thus taking much longer in the game and frankly getting more out of it.
2) PC vs console. Almost always console times come in 25% shorter than PC times. I don't know if that's a load-time issue, or it goes back entirely to point 1, since many of us who are PC gamers have been hard-core western RPG players for ages.
In any case, my first play-through was 123 hours, and that didn't even get the achievement for doing 75% of the sidequests. My subsequent playthroughs have run, on average, around 90 hours, though this one may actually end up much shorter, even though my gameplay will have been the most thorough.
