This game's gameplay is, as others have pointed out, realtime with pause. This means you can pause the game at any moment, issuing orders to your party members. When you unpause the game, the party members will carry out your orders.
A conservative estimate for the length shows 40-60 hours, a middle lenght is probably 60-80 hours and some have even spent 100+ hours playing the game.
The story is very great, gripping and emotional, I find.

The best medieval fantasy CRPG since Baldur's Gate II, better than Neverwinter Nights, in my opinion.
If you're familiar with programming, you can pretty much avoid EVER telling your teammates what to do by assigning them a set of looping tactics that cover most situations, from an absurd large array of conditions in a "tactics" AI options menu.
I've spent literally HOURS tweaking the AI for my roleplaying character so that my tank protects the weaker characters, attacks attackers of disabled teammates, and cast disable spells on archers, mages and large groups of enemies.
...
Fantastic.
...
The bad:
There's absolutely no consequence for a near defeat in an encounter, and thus most encounters, even harder boss encounters, feel more like grinding than challenging -- knowing that you will win without there being any consequence for losing three partymembers before the boss falls.

I disagree with that. You do get injured, after all. It hampers your effectiveness in future encounters. There are a few exploits (like high level Spirit Healer magic) but it's certainly a step up from say, KOTOR, where party members can die without any reprecussion.
Purely, gameplay wise, my gripes are (1) overpowered mages, particularly Arcane Warriors, (2) the inneffectiveness of rogue archers compared to dual wielders, and (3) two-handers just aren't good as dual wield warriors. That could have been balanced a bit better. Some spells are too powerful (Cone of Cold) or too easy to exploit (Force Field).
The game has plenty of nicely challenging encounters if you play on Normal and above, but it does feel like a rollercoaster sometimes. You cut through one group of enemies like butter only to get torn to pieces five minutes later. But, better a challenging, tactical game than an easy one. Overall, I thought the combat was pretty good because you can't just click on things until they die.
Of course, balancing things out and getting rid of a lot of the filler combat (a lot of people did not like grinding through the Deep Roads) would make things better, but I found it a lot more enjoyable and tactical than most RPG's. It's not perfect, but the core mechanics of the combat are solid. There's a decent selection of tactics, poisons, traps and spell effects that work in tandem and have some interesting effects. For instance, I coat my daggers with demonic poison while Morrigan casts a vulnerability hex on an enemy, making him more vulnerable to my poison and allowing me to do more damage. There are other nice combos like Sleep+Nightmare that are more obvious.

I heard this thread is totally stupid. Is it worth reading?
It was, until this happened.
Damn I will probably skip it then.

Unless you drink a potion of "cure cracked skull" or "cure broken bone".
They say the maker has disappeared, but... I'm not so sure:
Everyone pulls a lazarus every time the guy who's axe is lodged in their skull falls...
Heck, the maker seems to be more present than any of the D&D gods..!
