The though of a ME MMO sends several posters on this board into a fury, claiming it would ruin everything.

According to them, it's probably the 2nd worse thing that can happen to ME, with the 1st being EA buying BioWare.

Needless to say, we all know that they would buy a ME MMO even it was an EEZO farming game.  It's the truth, no matter how much they complain they would STILL buy it.  The franchise is huge, and I would love for other people that are turned off by the single player aspect to join in on the fun in an MMO.  You wouldn't play as a SPECTRE, but you could probably pick between some iconic classes, ala SWTOR.

I could see 4 playable races (Human, Turian, Asari, Salarian), with 8 or so classes.  I'm thinking commando, mercenary, etc.  Maybe even put in biotic god class (scariest thing ever).

Maybe after ME3 is over, Humans / Salarians and Turian / Asari go at odds with each other.  Humans and Salarians are described as having a lot in common, with them seeing eye to eye on things, and the Turian + Human relationship is still sour.  Asari would side with the Turians if they had to pick sides.  Then throw in some expansion races like Krogan and Batarian.  Batarians hate humans, so it's obvious where they would go, and the Krogan are on better terms with Humans than Turians.

There's your two factions, your races, and your classes.  Throw in a story system like the one SWTOR is doing and boom, instant greatness.  I want a never ending stream of ME related content, and MMO is the best way to satiate that hunger if you have it too.

No, I agree with the OP. I think that a ME MMO would work. I would first have to see how SWTOR would work first though.

<ME MMO Response>MMO's are finnicky things that have a habit of trashing the lore of established series. Now IF BioWare does a good job with SWTOR I wouldn't be adverse to them giving the same treatment to the ME universe, however that's still going to be another 4+ years before they should even consider making another MMO.</ME MMO Response>

I have the utmost confidence that BW can pull this off. Unless the gameplay involves pointless arguing, I have no problem with it.

Dream on. I wouldn't even want an MMO if they would deliever it to my doorstep on a red velvet pillow carried by some semi nude supermodel.

I played my share of MMOs and i don't want any MMO anymore. I am not going to waste hours and hours a day just for another 10% to my next level by the end of the week. And i don't want to farm the same Mission/Boss/Monster over and over again for a 1% chance drop of some item. And i certainly won't pay 12 to 15 or more bucks a Month just for the pleasure of going over the same and same content again and again for nothing.

And i doubt the new Kotor will change anything about it, even though i will take a look, but i can't imagine how they want to do it storydriven and then have people joining together for missions.

If i am going to kill Jabba the Maggot in my Storyline and need a bunch of people for it... and then i am going to join up the next week to kill Jabba the Maggot again, then i am hardly having a storyline.. not if i do the same missions over and over again.

So no... if i say i don't want a MMO then i mean i don't want a MMO and i won't buy a MMO.

And as far as Mass Effect goes... i already consider it a pity they ruined the KOTOR Storyline by turning it into a MMO... but that Franchise was unlike better as the ME Line. ME is nice... but i mainly stay loyal to it because its a new concept. Because i want to see how it will play out in the end and how my decisions of the previous game will effect it.

Without that, there is no need for me to buy Mass Effect. And if they can't pull it off and finally hold true to that in Mass Effect 3... i certainly will be done with the Mass Effect Line. (And yes, i know they won't continue Shepard after ME3.. but i doubt they are done with the Universe itself)

If they turn it into a MMO.. i do see even less a reason to buy it. Why would i? What do they offer that i can't get anywhere else? The Force? There is already Starwars Galaxies for that.. despite its crap if you know how it used to be when it came out (and that was a game i was willing to pay a monthly fee to play, till they WOW Patched it).

If i want a "shooter" type MMO? I reactivate my Planetside Account or play Battlefield 2195 (which doesn't cost me any monthly fee). And if i don't care and just want Sience Fiction.. well there is StarTrek Online, which just came out.

ME doesn't offer anything you can't get in some other MMO already. Its Universe presents nothing special. The only thing that makes ME special in the current situation is that your decisions are supposed to have some kind of impact and some interresting Story.

Its an Interactive Movie... and thats what i bought ME for... and thats why i am loyal to ME and want to see it continued and thats why i will buy ME3, because i want to see the end of it.

If they want to do a MMO... fine let them. I will carry my hard earned money to someone else then. Like Fallout Las Vegas.

I want good Offline Singleplayer Games for the PC... not be forced to pay a monthly fee to spend my sparetime i can spend for playing videogames  sitting at some network hub with a LFG Flag.. hoping i have the flavor of the month character to be taken along quick enough to actually get to play 2 hours before my Kids or my Wife want some attention from me.

Lore wise and technically, ME would make a great MMO platform (and I'm not sure that much of it's backround wasn't developed with the idea of the IP being used like that after the trilogy was completed).

Personally, I would hate it as it would most likely be a monthly fee type MMO and that's a gaming road I will never travel. It would mean, no more ME for me. If they did something more like Guild Wars, then I'd check it out, but I'm not plunking down a monthly fee for gaming.

I'm still just pretending that SWTOR just doesn't exist....

all gamers are diffrent, but we can see eye to ey on a great game. but those eyes tend to maintain an opinion behind them.

some love MMO's

some hate MMO's

i would vote for! i love MMO's and i am dieing to play a MEMMO. but i also trust bioware to make their fan base very happy. they are the best at taking care of us, look at the tech support and all the codes and dlc they gave us a chance for.

but someone wrote less is more, this is true but can it be that MASS EFFECT is in the beginning stages of being the NEW STAR WARS?

what mass effect turns into is really up to us the fanbase, we ask for more books and comics and more ME EU (expanded universe). we are the ones bioware listens too, so if fans want it and build it, it will come.

the effect of mass effect becoming a current mythos is in our hands and if we can make MASS EFFECT join the ranks of star wars and star trek, then count me in on the build.

both of those franchise's have MMO's btw, so why can't my MASS EFFECT join those ranks.

Wow, such vitriol about a concept that is not only good looking on paper but is sound business

MMO's are money, pure and simple, wether or not the "hardcore" ME fan is going to buy it is a drop in the bucket compared to the sheer numbers it can pull in if it's done right.

Now there is a caveat to it being "done right"
MMO's can't make everyone happy all the time, it's easy to craft a story about one person or a small group of people.  But trying to write/script/produce a constantly evolving story involving thousands if not millions of people?  Tough work even for our storycraft wizards at BW.

But fact of the matter is, that for every one of those "MMO will ruin Mass Effect" there are 10 "Mass Effect MMO huh?  Looks new, I'll try it" and those are the people that grease the cogs of a money making machine.

An MMO would be money in the bank for BioWare and EA, I wouldn't be surprised at all of Star Wars is the launching pad for more IP's to get the MMO treatment, Dragon Age?  Mass Effect?  Jade Empire?  All fair game if Star Wars works, and if Star Wars fails?
Well at least they "ruined" a piece of IP that was ruined by it's creator decades ago

Either way EA and BW make out in the black and someone gets what they want

MMOs are crap and would ruin the game completely, like the new SW:TOR, that should've been an RPG, not an MMO

Uh, OP, you do realize that since galactic relations are based on your actions in the ME games, and Bioware doesn't want to create a "canon" Shepard, you can't make a game based on these relations, right?

oh tis cpuld work, you should do very cool missions that makes you get 30 things of that and 20 things of this and then youd have to destroy the same merc base a hundred times. the joy of an MMO!

weeeeeeeeeeeeeh! /sarcasm

at first it sounds like an great idea, it is a great story/setting

if it woudl be a sandbox configure it might work, but this is very hard to implement, mmo's are boring, grinding and not story based at all.

the MMO will probebly steal away the attention on the single player and was away the epic feeling people had with it. i havent seen 1 good MMO that would implant a universe where your actions actually matter and where your not just one of those thousands of people playing it.

thats whats the main problem there is with an ME MMO

It's funny that you say they would buy it regardless of not wanting it... I know I wouldn't, seeing as I haven't bought any MMOs ever... I played 3 weeks of WOW and was in the beta for Matrix Online, and I can tell you it was the least fun I've had playing videogames ever.

Farming pelts and other garbage for 3 hours straight looking for an item you need just to complete a quest doesn't equal fun for me. I don't care what the source material is, MMO's suck in my opinion.

If they wanna make ME an MMO fine, but I won't buy it. MMO's have ruined what people define as an rpg.

Look at what happened to, say, Prison Break...

You want that to happen to the Mass Effect series? Same goes for people wanting dozens of ME sequels...

SWTOR is not going to be a success, so modeling anything after that would be a mistake.

As far as the general idea for an ME MMO, I don't really know.  It would have to be something like The Agency or Global Agenda (MMOFPS) since the traditional MMO style won't work for an action game.  Unless it's something like EVE where it's totally focused on the space combat.  I would rather another company make the MMO, since BioWare is too stuck on having story be the only part of the game that makes up the MMO.  Then again, that other company may ruin the ME universe indefinitely.
