Okay, I didn't see this posted anywhere- but I may have epically failed and missed it but whatever.
I bring you: The Only Five Characters in Bioware Games.

Well yeah, they are proven to work, and to sell well. I doubt many people come to video games expecting much depth or originality from a literary standpoint. Not that I think Bioware has bad writers working for them or anything, it takes some skill to appeal to the masses, and it's a nessasary one if you're writing to make money.

Cracked is there to make fun of everything and everyone. I found it hilarious because of their descriptions of each.
Especially Shale.

I wasn't amused by this.

I think the "naive minx" of KOTOR is Bastila, not Mission. She is the typical wide eyed, goody two-shoes female love interest there, and it is supported by the fact that I like Mission more

Leliana is naïve?
Sun Li dies at the beginning before he can do anything?

The critical research failure comes at the end though: "Shale from Dragon Age
is technically not a robot, but he is a artificially created golem [...]".

digital sex partners that dont stick around for breakfast the next

That was the only thing that made me laugh.

Epic fail. They called Baldur's Gate a "diablo style RPG"

This, very much this.
Edit: And religion is certainly not her area of expertise

I can't be arsed to look for it right now, but this idea was already an article somewhere else and... it was actually funny.

Well Bastila has far more character development then Mission. Since Mission still stays the typical whiny 14 year old. While at least Bastila's character actually goes somewhere.

Hilarious! Not very accurate, but very funny. I guess the author doesn't think much Bioware. Maybe he's an ex-employee.

Cracked is quite possibly the best source online of parody, sarcasm, and satire. Their only competition is really The Onion.

Before anyone rages, Cracked's purpose is not accuracy. It is humor. No more, no less.

Well, I did manage to convince Leliana that I was staying up all night with Morrigan discussing tactics, so...
Obviously it's not a completely hard and fast rule, but you DO see a lot of the same archetypes in BioWare games. Compare the companions of KOTOR to the sequel developed by Obsidian and you'll see the differences are night and day. Companions in the sequel were way different, and actually, far better developed for the most part. They also didn't fit the standard moulds that a lot of BioWare's characters do. When has BioWare made a character like Kreia? *crosses fingers for Flemeth*
Why not, say, instead of a male love interest who's sweet and kinda shy with a little bit of a goofy side (Carth/Kaiden/Alistair) you instead have one who's assertive and serious. Maybe even a little dangerous. A Clive Owen type.
Now, I'm not suggesting that BioWare suddenly start making a Kreia clone for Dragon Age 2 or what they're doing sucks, but what I am saying is that it would be refreshing to add situations and character archetypes that haven't been used before. Dragon Age is a good start and the companions here are far better than in past games, but they still fit into these archetypes. It really wouldn't hurt if BioWare started experimenting a bit with archetypes they haven't used.
This is one of the reasons I'm glad Awakening won't have romances. It'll allow characters to get explored in different ways.

I wouldn't call Bastila naive. She's a "do-gooder," sure, but naive and innocent...? Nah.
Calling Shale a "he" is hardly a critical research failure. I know Shale's origin and I still mix it up all the time.
I like Cracked's articles, but for some reason this one wasn't that great. I smiled a couple times, but it wasn't nearly as funny as a lot of their others.

Article was definitely funny. "The Charming Male Lead is basically Han Solo (except slightly more of a p**sy)". The accompanying pictures were great as well.
