The Rpg of the Year Award will go to Borderlands or Dragon Age Origins. This is a fact

Dragon age origins, on the other hand, has no weaknesses. It has to be rpg of the year and will probably win most of the "best rpg" awards, and maybe some goty awards. I hope g4tv's xplay gives it at least rpg of the year.

Since RPG's that win the best of the year rewards are rarely the best (or even an RPG), I wouldn't mind Bioshock 2 winning.Isaantia wrote...
Lucky that Bioshock 2 got pushed back to next year. I wonder who will win out between Bioshock 2 and ME 2 in 2010.

I can't predict who will win what but it's not hard to know who won't win what...
DA:O would not win best graphic for sure
No way in the world borderland could win best story.
Demon Soul will not win best replay value or best voice acting or character design.
Divinity II will not win best main theme track.

As for Borderlands, is that even really an RPG? From what I've read about it, it seems to be much more a FPS with some character advancement and some choice, kind of like Bioshock.
It rather made me laugh that people considered Bioshock an RPG when the only roleplaying you can do in that game consists in choosing to kill little girls or not. >.<

Bordelands is just a shooter with rpg elements, so I highly doubt it will be the rpg of the year.
DAO = pure RPG and in my eyes the best this year, so I wouldnt be suprised if it will win the "RPG of the year" award in the EU.

I loved Risen, and would totally recommend it to Gothic fans, but there is almost nothing innovative about it. I have never seen a game engine/structure/concept/hero/world as little changed as this one is relative to Gothic 1-3. Even if you are in the group that thinks that series is the best ever, IMO there is still room for progress. And the ending sucks.
Drakensang has some nice bits, but it is too zoned, and too linear, and there is far too much in it which is straight pencil-and-paper mechanics imported into the CRPG for no apparent reason. Like having to wait and watch while your saving rolls play out in real time. Wtf?
As far as upcoming games go, last I saw, Divinity 2 was due in the US in December, so it might just make it.
The other one coming out is Torchlight, 27th of this month. That's an ARPG and at twenty bucks it's not in the premium marketplace, but it COULD be a sleeper hit. There are certainly people who think it will be (with all the Diablo vets it has on board).
Overall I think DA:O has a good chance, but as several have said, we'll have to play it first

Cell-shaded graphics are stylistic, though they're not actually cell-shaded. And yes, I like them.relentlessimp wrote...
Am I the only person who likes cell-shaded graphics? Done right, they are effin' beautiful, more so than stylistic or realistic graphics.

All of the RPGs mentioned in this thread have come out in the US, or will do so. There are some excellent games being made in Europe these days; if you're missing em, you're missing out.flamechamp23 wrote...
please only mention rpgs that come out in the us.....i really don't care about rpgs that came out in europe
As for "Dragon age origins, on the other hand, has no weaknesses"... wait till you play it
I know quite a few serious gamers, actually, who are already put off by the fact that the marketing has focused so heavily on boobs and blood. Not because they're prudes, but because they're grownups, and that focus makes it look like the game was designed for angry horny boys.
