 I know this post has been beaten to death, but let me just add that Origin's romance became this big, I believe, partly due to the acting.  I mean people were after the voice of Claudia Black (Morrigan) before she was in Origins.  I think quality acting really helped make the relationship segment of the game higher priority for some.
