Agreed! I love DA:O and have played through many many times. I dump and create new characters all the time. I hope for BW's sake they made the right decision and it doesn't drastically effect sales. If they goofed.. it's not gonna be pretty..

yep i hope they deliver an explosive expansion next if awakening isnt what i hope it should be but i wont give up waiting for bioware to do better on future dao expansions as normally they make fantastic games

on the other hand theres not many expansions that live up to the original games expectations

It's a shame. While I was never a big fan of the sex in DA (It wasn't really all too needed). The romance keeps the story alive. It's a major rpg element.

in dao the sex scenes are tasteful not too over the top but the way they look into eachothers eyes it has such intensity to it but i like the conversational romance options and i guess the kissing scenes are fun too

It's not like they are acting like horny dogs.  I really have to laugh,. in a game with all that violence, they were offended by sex? ROFLMAO?

exactly the worst thing is its not like they are virgins so why be offended by it in a game when its not quite as in your face does that mean in real life they are goin to become nuns or monks coz sex is offensive lol

Because the broodmother and impalement are totally viewer friendly. It's -any- parents fault if a kid ends up getting the game. Though it's fox news, they could report ants in a way to make it look them look obscene.

I have to disagree the romance was not 5% of the game, it gave the character dept. He or she could get to know people, form likes and dislikes and even fall in love.
I am a writer at trade and I don’t want to make up own stories when I play an RPG. I certainly do not want to write any cheese fan fiction to enrich a game I paid for. That’s the whole point of playing for me that I cannot just take control of the story and bend it to my will, if I need to do that I can just as well just keep working on my book. Back to my original point I have played rpg games for ever, longer than I would wish to admit and the fights is not what makes them the most interesting, to learn new skills are fun and sometimes you just wait around for the points to learn that special ability but it is the people you encounter the characters you do not control that makes it really interesting.     

He meant content-wise the romance takes up 5% or less of the game. As in, you are spending less than 5% of the game interacting with them. And that 5% figure is super high too, as I'd say romancing a character really only adds maybe... 25% more content to any of the characters in DA:O than not romancing them would get you. 

And again, just because you aren't being romantically involved with characters in game does not mean those characters will have less depth or be less interesting or engaging.

As I said that it is the characters that you do not control is what makes the game in to what it is. The romance option just made the game more like the japans games I generally buy and play.  To take away such a popular fetcher in an expansion that has been available in the original seems like a bad idée to me. And you may be correct that if you look on it from a time point of view that I may be 5% but I bet that many of the players thought about it while doing the quests or battling darkspawn. So it would passively be more than 5% of the game play.

Well i think romances is a big part of dragonage and even so in me..i cant imagen to play a dragonage/expansion or even masseffect whit out the nice way to gain romance whit a party/team member its just a thing that makes the game better.i feel so sad biowere removed the romance chanse in awekening..so not sure im gona get the expansion.

I feel the same way and find it difficult to understand the decision to remove existing game content from what is supposed to be an expansion to the original, particularly elements that help to make the product unique and not just another hack-and-slash game. The personal relationships and the romance help to draw you into the story and keep you engaged.  I'd rather they had delayed the expansion if time and/or money was a problem. I just hope that the next expansion or sequel will see that content (and our companions) returned.

I'm afraid it is just typical of the media, which are always on the lookout to make a sensation out of nothing.

In a previous job I used to regularly meet a local newspaper proprietor. I once asked him why his newspaper frequently told what we both knew were clear lies. His answer? "I have a newspaper to sell".

what if you are married to Anora and you go off having an affair with um Mairin? what are the people gonna say? What are you expecting Anora to say when you get back? How is Bioware gonna deal with that? There's just too many possibilities involved if it's included Right Now. Not just that, What about your Own Character's Feeling, are you gonna just forget you just got Throned and married to a Queen of Ferelden?

you can still gain Approvals and Friendships (which is more deep and important) in The Awakening.. so lets just chill eh?

Well I can help people and get my loot in any hack-and-slash game. In fact I've already been doing that in Origins but at least there I also had my mates with me while doing it and the relationships with those mates had a lot of depth to them and some of that has been taken away.

Yes, I will be looking at what has been left, and the way the story is constructed once the game is released. I'm sure there will be plenty of feedback on these boards once it is is released. However in this expansion we are still losing content from the existing game which helped to make the game special. As I have said, the big question now is what Bioware intend to do with future expansions and sequels.

Yea i hope so to that the old companions return and the romance thingy talking to your companions in the camp took you deaper in the game then just darkspwan slaying...it maked it more real..to learn to know your friends at the camp..i relly hop they bring the romance thing back..

so for now im gona stay whit the dragonage originals..but maybe in the future i get the expansion...i was hoping for a futher romance whit Leliana or Alistar in this expansion but ack...

Anora will become the Queen of Ferelden no matter what you did; she is either the Queen already, or she will dethrone Alistair using some loops in the Ferelden's constitution. Orzammar will be ruled by Bhe.. oh ok nvm... ok Orzammar aside, Bioware will be trying to Generalize all of our Characters, so there won't be too many possibilities for the coming Expansion. All of our characters will be Generalized somehow. That's the only way for all our Wardens to continue their journey (if they do not choose to end it on some trashmobs/boss).

It will definitely upset some people, but that's the only way that they could let us Continue our Journey.
