No romance - is it new policy or one-game decision?

More on that,
The Story is even already convincing, you are on a temporarily short-period leave to visit Amarantine, but hey who'd know there's some fightin going on there. That's why your mates didn't come with you and hey (as Bioware said it) you dont got 3G there just yet bro. so what are you gonna do, run back to your lovers? or halp some ppl and get some SERIOUS loot
I know id go for the latter
But why is our Warden travelling by her/himself anyway? Didn't Leliana's/Zevran's epilogue say "He&She stood at the Warden's side to help rebuild the Gray Wardens"
And why exactly is the Warden travelling to Amaranthine the land granted to Gray Wardens after the end of Blight? (psssssst to rebuild the Gray Wardens maybe?) And why is the only person travelling with him/her some chick she/he never met before?
Anyways I'd expect the all important Warden commander to have a scout available which she/he could send back to Denerim or wherever they're supposed to be with a note asking for their assistance (yes of course that would take some time but still it looks as if Alistair managed to get all the way down there to show off his armor still he obviously can't even say "So how'd you been hon?")
PS: and believe it or not not everyone is actually that passionate about loot

Here
Anora will become the Queen of Ferelden no matter what you did; she is either the Queen already, or she will dethrone Alistair using some loops in the Ferelden's constitution. Orzammar will be ruled by Bhe.. oh ok nvm... ok Orzammar aside, Bioware will be trying to Generalize all of our Characters, so there won't be too many possibilities for the coming Expansion. All of our characters will be Generalized somehow. That's the only way for all our Wardens to continue their journey (if they do not choose to end it on some trashmobs/boss).
It will definitely upset some people, but that's the only way that they could let us Continue our Journey.
I can see that there are some grey areas and that some wardens at the end of Origins might be more difficult to take forward than others, particularly those who chose to sacrifice themselves. It could be argued that they chose to end their games anyway. However there's nothing to prevent people from being encouraged to make new Wardens or take a saved game forward in Origins to a different conclusion. Many of us already have more than one saved warden because we tried out different scenarios. There are also plenty of examples in books and films where, with a bit of imaginative writing, supposedly lost or tied-up characters have in effect been brought back. What does make me uncomfortable is the idea of, in effect, breaking all six eggs in a box because we believe we can't prevent two from being broken; in other words, upsetting even more people, if you see what I'm getting at.
As for our companions, most were either free or like Leliana, still devoted to their wardens at the end of many epilogue scenarions. Morrigan is still out there somewhere Even Alastair (if king) could be deposed as you say and be free to roam again in a future expansion .

Our role there is actually to attend that quick GW meeting in Amarantine (it will change when we found out about the darkspace and stuff), while the Orlesian Warden is assigned a task to build order or whatever.

So the long and the short of it is, I'm not preordering, and will wait a few months to read the reviews from players etc. Thing is, Soldiers peak, was simply us paying for armor and storage. RTO, was us paying for armor and weapons. The content wasn't there. I was really let down too, but what can you do. One thing that is also sticking in my mind, is how bioware handles this game, will effect my decision to try swtor. I liked how Guild Wars let me take my characters and heroes to each new world, and the adventure continued. The blueprint is there, BW chose to ignore it. I wonder if when the devs read posts like mine do they think we make any valid points or do they roll their eyes and move on?

All they need to do is say "And those you left behind.." and they have acknowledged them. It would be a cheap, way out to be sure, but oh well...

It seems to me from the developers comment that it was a budget issue. Well the bean counters have ruined more than one business venture in the history of man. The company (BW) will say "It's just as good as before, and we might add romance in other exp's if it is warranted". When in truth if they deem DA:A as successful and they can make more profit by not having romance, it will never return. It's really just that simple. DA:O got you hooked, now they want to do less, and make more and feed off that hook. I realized this a few MMO's ago, so now when I feel like leaving, I do. This is just how it is. Thing is online reports show DA:O going triple platinum in sales. The only logical way for me to accept this was a budget cut motivated reduction in content is to think they either spent way too much on DA:O and need to recoup, or they are putting currents revs into another project. But to be honest, with EA/MS behind them, and triple platinum sales of DA:O, I can't see money being an issue.

I think there are still a lot of people that want a romance option though they buy an expansion without the option. All we can do is to let Bioware know that we still prefer this option.
These forums are the best place to tell them what we´d like to see in future games & I´m sure they´ll care about what their customers want.

For their sakes I hope they listen, otherwise, they are showing their competion how to beat them. Imagine WOW ™ with added romance. They'd grab even more of the gaming world.

I like WoW, I played it from the start until 01/10. I really hope that Blizzard won´t include dating with NPCs
Edit:

Easiest way ever: A text-box in the final like DA:O ending where they say.. "and after your adventures you just came back to...." or a dialogue line anywhere where you can say something "I am in love for...and my plan is coming back to him/her"
But I would not bet a single cent they have done at least this easy thing....
Not after some posts I read...

I don't mind that there aren't any romances in Awakening. It's an expansion, not a second part so it's shorter and they don't have space to develop so many stories. I prefer that they don't include them instead of putting something bad done and rushed. What I wouldn't understand at all is the expansion going on on itself without taking into account the warden's actions, romances or anything else. I can't stand that lack of continuity, that would be a fun killer for me. Many reasons can be argued for those who aren't there, except the dog of course. Zevran can be on a mission for the Warden far off, with Leliana they can use the same explanation, or maybe she's with child if she's your romance, Alistair can be king so that's an explanation, and if he isn't he could be left in charge of the wardens while you're out. The rest explain themselves easily. Look, it was easy, and I'm sure the devs can think on many other ways to explain why they're not there. So please, don't broke continuity, even if it's "only" an expansion and not a full second part.
Indeed Kenrae.. We have more or less the same thought...
But there is an easy rule they could have applied for this expansion... which is "You can just image whatever you want, until we show you the opposite" Never thought this?
Here is an easy explanation of the word "aknoweledgment".. "We know this.. You know this.. so, as we are not going to show you anything of this, you are free to imagine whatever you want... it's all in your mind"... Nice trick, don't you think so?

alas tis only an expansion,
Okay, I don't see this as a legitimate excuse, especially since is a $40.00 game.
i would also concider it to be un-moral for my character as he is well and truly in love ith morrigan and always will be, so i would think t a bit strage if after a week of losing his 'love' he can go and sleep with someone else,
I don't give a **** about your character. My character is a philanderer, and I personally wanna see him get with any strange that he encounters, male/female.
Seriously people, Bioware is a big boy. They don't need your help to defend poor decisions.

your paying $40. i'm only paying £25 for mine
the original game of DoA in canadian $ cost $ 61,-
to that add Warden's Keep $ 8,-
and RtO $ 5,-
and the new Awakening is slated at $ 45,- +tax of 12%
all these expansions combined cost more than the original for a fraction of playing time
I am biding my time to buy

Damn its the early 90's all over again!
Now that you put it that way it does seem expensive. Also for those poor fools who were goaded into buying a used copy right after launch by Gamestop would add an additional 15 bucks onto (minus a couple). I am also waiting to buy it because of the price (and other reasons that have been all over this forum).

Romances aren't necessary seeing how badly they were done in NWN games and DA. If romances were actually GOOD (like Aerie romance in BG2), then by all means, the game would be better off. However DA's romances felt cheesy, forced and lame.
Uh? You consider the sugarcoated Aerie romance better than those in DA?

On the other hand, no other game gives 100 hours of gameplay on just one playthrough for a normal price, like DA:O does.

Well, thank you all, but this is not exactly an answer for my question - is this is a one-time decision related to gameplot (like errant_knight assumes) or this decision will apply to other future Bioware titles?
I don't think we will know until the next game. I know ME3 will have a continuation of your romance from the previous two games.
I can't see them removing this from future games rpg games, but my crystal ball is fogging up today. I'll be very sad if they discontinue them. It will no longer be a complete story, for me, without some kind of romance in it. Their games have always been like reading a good book. The romance fills out the story and character development. Without it, they will have just another game.
