I have a couple of questions?

Started played ME so I can import my character into ME2. I am near the end where I am fighting Saren’s husk. However I think I pretty much did a straight route from start to finish and visited all the planets and systems that were required. However I now realise that there may be a lot of side quests on other systems I have not done and there is even some alien races I haven’t even come across.

I take it once I get to the end of the campaign I cannot do these other quests and they must be done before the final confrontation?

Also I am about to reformat my PC shortly and then will install ME2 and import my character. How can I save my profile to reuse it again on ME2?

Yes, once you hit Ilos you're in the endgame and cannot backtrack to the rest of the galaxy. If you'd like to re-play the game, you can actually re-import your first Shepard using "New Game+" - just choose Select Existing ID when starting a new game, and there should be a profile for every time you've finished ME1. (Same files as are used to import to ME2.)



Your saves, both mid-game and those end-game ones, should all be in My Documents\\Bioware\\Mass Effect\\Save, just back up that directory and then copy it back in after the reformat. (Look under C\\Users\\Your Username\\ for Vista/7, I think.)
