And as for the *spoiled* comment...seriously? having a gay option makes us spoiled? really???

That is the joke of the century.  It is those of us who like straight romances who are spoiled.

Clearly
it does since you are crying for a gay romance in every single game
they make. And yes dont kid yourself.  You would cry if it wasnt in me
3/DAO 2/Kotor 3.

Just like you and more than half of
the Bioware community would cry if there were no straight options, or
no options at all. Lets try to be a little less sanctimonious. Just
because I want more gay/bi options doesnt mean I bemoan the straight
ones or the people who enjoy them. I want EVERYONE to have a lot of options.

Valmy wrote...

I guess this sort of attitude perfectly reflects your attitude towards gay romances also.  You probably stay up at night horrified that something somebody other than yourself might enjoy is being put into video games.

This is something I;ve noticed too. Some people seem really genuinely bothered by the fact that their potential straight romance is being romanced by someone else as a woman or man, and I don;t get it, lol. Can;t you just let other people enjoy their game, their way?

I seriously hope BW doesnt start giving fan service to the "gay" community. Seriously, (Asari aside and talking about RL anyway.) had nature intended for Humans to be "gay" they would have made it so that we can reproduce Asexually like the Asari. But, seeing as how (aside from adoption or artificial insemination) nature doesnt work that way, it makes homosexuality "wrong" from a nature standpoint.

You do realise that this asinine argument also makes sex for pleasure "wrong" too?
By the way, curing an infection with antibiotics is also "wrong" from a nature standpoint.

Just to play Devil's Advocate here...

Any Christian or Jew should rightfully be against it.  Just sayin'.

Note:  I personally don't care either way, and I find religion to be pure hypocrasy in the first place, but let's not get into that.

Now then.  On Topic with the OP:  No reason why they couldn't have put it into the game logistically.  They went with a design decision to have no same-sex romances in the Mass Effect world.  Siting LiaraXFemShep, the devs have stated themselves that they don't consider it a lesbian romance.

There is nothing to discuss. In the ME universe, Miranda is heterosexual. Period. They could've made her bi from the beginning, but they didn't. She's straight.

Why are you so keen to shut people up?

Wouldn't you cry if there were no hetrosexual romances included in those games? Your point loses me completely.

I agree with this, given the context.  If Shepard was obviously flirting with Jack and she said this, then I would agree with them.  However, Shepard wasn't flirting with Jack (a female Shepard can't flirt with her at all), so it doesn't make sense that Jack would be 'turning down her advances' with that line.

I'd disagree on the "no obvious flirting" part as the way female Shepard delivers the "you fascinate me" line when she's asked for explanation why she keeps coming back to Jack can be easily interpreted as far beyond friendly. (I didn't know about no f/f option for Jack actually and the way that particular conversation played out made me wonder if i didn't start something i wasn't planning to) Also, Jack takes interest of male Shepard around that point as nothing but attempt to get in her pants -- so given both Shepards get the same lines up to that spot it'd be rather natural to read interest of female Shepard in the same way she perceived male Shepard, rather than as just friendly small-talk with no point to it.

Overall this is certainly open to interpretation though. It read in one way to me but can see how it'd read different to someone else.

Jacob is a handsome dude. But he is a very bland and muted character personality, especially when he has to compete with the rest of the crew comprised of genetically engineered badarses and vat-grown supermutants and cyborg Turians.

He is a 'nice guy,' but that does not mean he should be without personality or only talk about either Alliance/Cereberus/Duty or sexytimes. I truly do think Jacob was written for men rather than for women. To be a 'bro' and a wingman more than anything else. When it gets down to his romance, with me it always felt like it was added on and rather sloppily, too. Meanwhile, when I look at Miranda or Jack, it is pretty clear they're written to be romances and written with romance (and sexuality) in mind. Even Tali has NPCs affirming for the narrative that she is 'attractive.'

Why would they be against Miranda and femshep having sex?  It quite clearly says only M/M is an abomination.

I just don't get why a discussion about a modded scene exploded like this. Depressing, and disappointing. Given the history of Bioware's games, one would think most fans wouldn't find stuff like this objectionable.

I'm tempted to dig around for MaleShep/Kaidan vids now, just to see some heads explode. Image IPB

The reason why this "discussion" is stupid is because anybody could say this about any character. Why isn't Jacob a maleshep option? They could've included the option.

"Why isn't Tali a femshep option? They've could have at least included it... Why isn't Joker a romance option? Why isn't Garrus a maleshep option? I just don't understand the reasoning behind it."

Because Bioware decided for their characters to be that way. There's really no other reason, this whole "discussion" is moot.

I just wish BW would stop making these crappy cringe-worthy 'romance' scenes altogether and go back to the good old days of 'fade to black'.

So no, I hope BW don't start wasting time with more bi/homosexual options (as in these cutscenes, no problem with actual character dialogue though) not because I'm a homophobe but because I'd rather the devs spent more time on the actual game itself! My opinion on this also applies to things like fish tanks and collecting spaceships - 'Hi I'm Commander Shepard and I'm here to save the galaxy...right after I've fed the fish / stopped searching for that model of Sovereign?!'

^ It's at times like that when Councillor 'Ah yes, *fingerquotes* Reapers' begins to look a hell of a lot more credible.

+1

Yes they should never include anything besides just the bare game...because Bioware games are terrible and their quality has really suffered?  No that is not it...

I guess this sort of attitude perfectly reflects your attitude towards gay romances also.  You probably stay up at night horrified that something somebody other than yourself might enjoy is being put into video games.

Especially when you consider how little additional time it would take; I figure a week for animating and 5 hours for each actor? If that even, if memory serves James Earl Jones recorded all his lines for A New Hope in a day.

Really, those of us advocating for same-sex romance arcs would at least like the option to make an advance and get shot down; as it is, any attempts to justify it as being out of character rely very heavily on stereotypes. Convince me that it's out of character for Kelly, the kindhearted psychologist, to be bi, and I might listen.

Conversations with squadmates are almost metaphorical. They don't represent EVERY SINGLE CONVERSATION YOU EVER HAD WITH THEM. Otherwise, Miranda would be letting you in her pants after talking to her for FIVE MINUTES and rescuing her sister.

Rather, they represent the super imimportant conversations and or multiple conversations jumbled into one. If you talk to jack at the end of every mission, it represents your always talking with jack, about personal matters. It isn't hard to get the impression you're flirting.

THIS THREAD ISNT EVEN ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY.

STOP PLUGGING YOUR OWN ISSUES INTO THE ISSUES OF AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT MINORITY.

THAT IS SELFISH AND CHILDISH.

Yes cos in real life, everyone is bi-sexual and will bang anything with a pulse.

Sorry I dont want gay squad mates hitting on me. So STFU about gay romances.

Im glad EA owns bioware, so none of this sillliness will actually even happen.

Anyways Bioware decided their characters are straight. So deal with it.

and....

????

You're talking her frequently about deeply personal matters.   I'm pretty sure I don't do that to my co-workers unless I am very close friends or intimate with the.    Talking to her at the end of every mission isn't actually roleplaying.

Role playing is playing through the eyes of the character you set up shepherd to be.    Most commanders of medium sized frigates in the navies will spend most of their time in their personal office, help out with navigation, communicating with mission command, and meeting with other high level soldiers on board who have vital functions, such as Garrus or Mordin.    This is skipped in the game because not doing so would make for a incredibly boring game.    Interacting with some random special operations soldier on some hole in your ship who preforms nothing and is incredibly antisocial and unstable is not going to be one of your priorities.    Talking to her constantly with no proffesional reasons is either roleplaying hitting on her, roleplaying being incredibly creepy, or not roleplaying.

Haha you're comparing your job to a being on a starship, cut off from all social contact.

I know that if I was captain of a ship for days, and there were only a dozen people on it, I would talk to them a lot.

I agree.   What we really should be discussing is the superiority of the PC version of ME to the XBox 360 one.

Mmmm...mods.  Image IPB
