- He is extremely influential and powerful. The only way Miranda could protect herself from him is not by hiding herself, but by working for a man even the Shadow Broker can't afford to cross: The Illusive Man.
- Miranda and the Illusive Man have a mutually beneficial relationship. She guarantees protection for herself and the resources to hide her sister, while the Illusive Man gains a hostage. The Shadow Broker would never dare cross the Illusive Man because of this.
- Miranda's father is obssessed with maintaining a dynasty, grooming his daughters for absolute perfection and teaching them that every desire comes with a string attached. If the Shadow Broker is a title that could be inherited rather than an individual, these motivations begin to make sense. Even the appearances of the Lawson sisters are engineered, presumably so they could more easily extract information or gain trust.
- Miranda says that the Illusive Man found her and recruited her at an early age. When pressed about this, she replies that she was, "Old enough to know this is what I wanted." Going with the theme of Miranda's father giving her anything she wanted with an angle for the long-term plan, it suggests that Miranda understood the implications of Cerberus hiring her. Cerberus protects her and gives her the resources to keep tabs on her father and hide her sister, but it also means she is essentially a hostage that the Illusive Man can use as leverage over her father, the Shadow Broker. Miranda understands and accepts this.
- Miranda says her father donated generously to Cerberus until she joined them, at which point he stopped.
- Miranda discovered Cerberus, and joined them due to her father's connections, in her own words. She explicitly says she also joined them to protect herself, most likely because she knew hiding from the Shadow Broker would be futile.
- Miranda says her father is motivated by completely selfish agenda (According to Barla Von, the Shadow Broker sells information to anyone who pays the highest bidder) while Cerberus' is concerned with the survival of humanity.
- The Shadow Broker and Illusive Man are hinted to be enemies, or at the very least uneasy associates. This is confirmed when Shepard asks the Illusive Man about Liara. The Illusive Man says that Liara is not to be trusted, because according to his agents, she is working for the Shadow Broker.
- The Shadow Broker was the first person to obtain Shepard's body. It was his/her intent to sell Shepard to the Collectors. This plan was thwarted when Liara recovered Shepard's body and gave it over to Cerberus, so obviously, there is friction there. And yet what keeps the Shadow Broker from making a move on Cerberus to recover the most valuable individual in the entire galaxy? The only explanation is that the Illusive Man holds a resource that the Shadow Broker would never risk losing -- this resource seems to be Miranda herself.
- The game makes it a point to never name or place Miranda's father. What we do know of him from her descriptions is his wealth, enormous influence and ego. Who has influence enough to find Miranda no matter where she'll go? Miranda would understand that hiding is pointless, so she realizes the only way to stay safe is to ally herself with an organization that could keep her safe.
