The game's soundtrack. An obvious and boring answer, I know, but I've never played a game with music so bad I wanted to drown it out. The only time I did that was in the early 90s when I was trying to reach level 99 in Final Fantasy III (VI) for kicks.

Black metal fits well when you have a machine gun and 500+ bullets to shoot out of it.

Apart from that, I think the best way around every game would be something like hard rock/heavy metal from the years 70-80s. They would fit any game. Beethoven fits well for all styles as well, if I might say so...

Esp when you are playing a shooter with a high body count.

Depends on game but generaly speaking Nine Inch Nails generaly fit well with pretty much everything, just like some Ministry stuff, Front Line Assembly or Skinny Puppie.

As much as I´d like to agree on that since I love Black Metal; I´d rather go for Bolt Thrower in a game of that kind. Hour of Penance is also a good option. =]

I'm with Seagloom, here. Soundtracks in video games are usually well put together (since the CD era, anyhow). I see no reason to listen to something else.
