hey all:
so, i'm starting on my third playthrough of me2 tonight and want to mix it up. the last two playthroughs, i've imported my femsheps over from me1 and played sentinel and adept (just finished).
i'm thinking of starting from scratch as an engineer, maybe, and am wondering if anyone has had playthroughs with both an imported character and a new game...and which did you prefer? i know there are subtle differences with the "default" shep - council dead, etc. - but i'm wondering besides that...any big differences? i know you get more resources with your import, but i know you get some from beating me2 as well.
the idea of playing with a brand new default character seemed a little strange to me for some reason b/c i've had my own for so long, so i wanted to see if anyone had any preferences one way or the other. after two playthroughs, though, the idea of something new seemed appealing! thx.
default v. import shep

"Canon Shepard" is a pretty lame experience for someone who has actually played the first game. I'd highly recommend importing unless you want Wrex dead, and an all human Council led by that ****** Udina.

I concur. the scratch Shepard makes all of the "I didn't spend a single point in renagade/paragon options and did no side quests" it leaves you with very little to work with.

I did one just to see what's it like with a new char in ME2. Some of the dialogues and couple side quests are missing, but nothing critical.

If you start a fresh character you loose alot of content. There are a lot of NPC's that are missing if you didn't import or save people in me1. At first I didn't really notice until I did an import run after ending the game with a couple of defaults.

yea...each of you raised some really good points. i think the loss of the content (npc, dialogue and missions), haivng wrex dead and udina be the head of the council ("this is an outrage!") would be too much. one of my favorite parts of the game was telling him to STFU and go back to his office. i can't give that up, right? i think if i decide to play a guy shep in the future i'll do a playthrough of me1 and then just bring him in.

Yeah, I'm doing my first playthough from a fresh character and am disappointed in the loss of content. as compared to the characters I've impoted.

Plus, if you have beaten ME2 once already and then import your ME1 character again with the rich achievement you get 350000 credits, 60000 of every resource and those paragon/renegade bonuses, not to mention having all you choices brought over, pretty win/win in my opinion.
