What do you guys use for your teammates?

I find Grunt and Samara the most useful on my Sentinel.
They both have Assault Rifles (We all use Avengers), allowing us to be effective at mid range.
I also find this setup useful because we each have different types of shields (I have shields, Samara has barrier, Grunt has Armor)
Other bonuses include exploding Samara's Reaves and Grunt has Squad Ammo to help us burn/stun everyone. I let him have 1 point in Fortification to restore his shields.
I probably would of given my teammates (or rather chosen teammates) Incisor rifles, as I've heard they are slightly bugged, but I don't have that DLC.

Anyways, let me know your squad builds, we can pool our information.

It depends on your class. For vanguard I prefer Miranda most of the time due to passive squad bonus (the Vanguard could use every extra dmg bonus / health bonus) AND shield / armor stripping power (warp / overload). The other squadmate would depend on the mission itself. Against husks I prefer Mordin's incendiary blast to strip armor and then do a field pull / shockwave / slam / throw to instantly kill 3 husks.

Vanguard's squad is purely support since vanguard should be the one dealing most of the dmg. Squad's pt is to strip shield / armor or to disable an enemy while vanguard charges into a larger group (concussion shot / biotic). I would think that it will be very different for sentinels since strategies will differ especially in insanity level.

I've actually found that I'm using all squad mates equally now, even ones I previously dismissed as weak such as Jacob or Tali. For instance, Jacob's combination of squad inferno ammo and pull have a really strong synergy with the sentinel, such that I'd actually rank him above Grunt in that situation.

barrier as in the purple biotic shield bar, not the talent skill.

I will call it the biotic purple shield defense so people will figure this out from now on.

I find Zaeed and Garrus with incisor sniper rifles are extremely deadly, especially with a squad ammo power provided either from Garrus (AP ammo), Zaeed (Disruptor), or yourself ( bonus skill). I suppose Thane may be a better choice than Garrus if you don't need his ammo power.

Depends on the mission.

Grunt and Jacob are a great team for husk missions (like reaper IFF). Inferno Ammo + shotgun does a number on husks and then they can follow it up with pull/concussive blast which will one shot husks once the armor is off. If either of them get swarmed, they can pop their loyalty skill to regen shields instantly and give you time to get the husks off them.

Likewise, Garrus and Zaeed destroy geth and mech missions. Area overload on Garrus and Disruptor ammo on Zaeed are deadly. AP Ammo/Inferno Grenade can help when up against Loki, Fenrir and Ymir mechs armor (although I usually don't care too much about them--Geth are the more dangerous mechs).

I use the other guys variably for different missions. I don't really end up using the biotic guys much. Sometimes Thane for Collector missions. If you're playing an Adept or Sentinel, they're great for setting up biotic combos, though. Just look at some of Average Gatsby or gr00grams Adept vids of the Suicide Run.

Miranda is the best squad mate in the game, that's the Second Mass Effect 2 Law.

.

She can take down any kind of defenses, has a unique squad bonus and Slam can be useful in critical moments.

.

The other one depends on the mission. I like Mordin in the reaper mission for exemple.

Garrus and Tali. Garrus provides a useful damage boost with Squad AP ammo and provide an additional Overload & CS. Tali provides useful distraction and control with Explosive Drone and also drains shields. And new shotgun is beast with AP ammo.

Yeah, for me it depends on my class and the current mission.

But Miranda is almost always on my squad.

Miranda is good in all situations

I like Tali because Chikita vasPaws can be a great distraction for enemies especially Harbinger, and she becomes especially useful aginst synthetics because of hacking and energy drain which does more to shields than warp/reave

On my Infiltrator Insanity run, Miranda seemed to be most common on my team because of Warp/Overload/Squad damage boost. She's also quite deadly with that SMG of hers. My other squad member depended on the enemies. Grunt if going up against blood pack, Garrus if against Blue Suns, Tali if against Geth, and so on.

Against lots of husks, I liked to use Mordin/Grunt. Mordin with Area Incinerate and Grunt's squad incendiary ammo helps a ton. Grunt is also tough enough to take the hits.

She also dies more than any other squad mate in the game, and I'm pretty sick of having to bring her just to put her in a corner and pray she stays there.  All squad mates tend to die, but she really does her best to remain queen of the suicides.  And yeah, it depends on the mission but I can tell you two characters that I will not use ever; Jack and Tali outside of their loyalty missions.  I'll use Jacob only until Grunt if I really need his ammo.

Yeah Miranda does tend to kamikaze on her own. That's why I always switch her to heavy pistol (her A.I. with SMG seems to force her into close combat) and sit her waaaaay in the back in cover. Her abilities fire off on your own line of sight not hers anyway, so it doesn't particularly matter where she is.

As for Jack, well I personally love bringing her when I play Sentinel. Miranda or I strip defenses, then jack pulls while I or Miranda do a warp explosion. Repeat ad infinitum. Jack's reduced biotic cooldown makes her pull available more often than anyone else besides Samara, but she has added utility with squad warp ammo. Unstable warp on yourself and Miranda, and you'll be doing crazy AOE damage consistently.

She is still just a worse version of Legion.

originally I just brought Miranda and "cooler looking teamamte at the time" until I decided Tali was a lot more endearing to have around. I prefer Tali and Legion, with 2 squadmates dropping drones the enemies tend to draw all their attention towards them while Legion snipes from afar w/the widow rifle, Tali provides shotgun support if they get too close, and me throwing rounds at the flavor of the month. Combine Legion's added resilience and damage from his shields, and it's been smooth sailing thus far.

I've used them both for as many missions as I could as I replay quite a few just for the different squad dialogues. For a solider, they're pretty top notch. Though I do agree that having 2 teammate with sniper rifles and/or assault rifles is pretty decent. Before Legion, I enjoyed running w/Garrus and Thane for their respective loyalty missions.

My usual team is Garrus (since he's good against all defense types) and Grunt (who's good against armour and barriers). Grunt is super-durable which, combined with his shotgun and charge, makes him great for holding a narrow passage while Garrus snipes the crap out of enemies.

Last night I did the suicide mission and I used Legion in place of Garrus, and it went quite well. With Legion's shield he's much more durable than Garrus, and if you get the improved version of the Geth Shield it ups his damage by 10%, which helps bridge the gap caused by Legion not having an ammo power. His sniper rifle helps too. The Combat Drone is actually pretty useful. Having the Harbinger or a Scion turn his back on you can be pretty clutch. That, plus the fact that I think it's awesome that the Hero of the Citadel is going into battle with the very image of a sworn enemy at his side is pretty epic.

Miranda kamikaze? Well, not here. I find her AI to be pretty impressive.

.

I rarely have problens with squad mates dying,I don't get why some many people complain about this. The only thing I can imagine is that I play with squad-power manual.

As an Adept...

Blood Pack/Collectors: Grunt Samara

Miranda is less useful because she doesn't pack the firepower nor she doesn't have access to Area Reave

Blue Suns/Eclipse/Areas where I don't know what Enemy is there: Grunt Miranda

Overall balanced squad to fight against balanced enemies.

Mechs/Geth: Zaeed Legion/Tali

This one I had most trouble with, since Grunt is less useful against mechs, and so I had no point man until Legion comes along. Tali's AI hacking is an alternative since it lets you make other mechs be your distraction.

Miranda, Thane, Samara and Grunt are the teammates i use. In the early game i will use Zaeed, the rest i don't really bother with outside of thier loyalty missions.

I think we all agree that Grunt is a beast. I wish the soldier class had an armor bar instead of a shield bar, so we could really see how much cooler it is when all the enemies are running around with ARs...

Everyone's actually effective, it depends how you stat them and when/where you use them.

I usually alternated from Zaeed/Grunt from fair success, to useful success when alternating Legion into the unit.

As an engineer:

Against blue suns, I find Mordin + Garrus to be the most effective.
Overload from either me or Garrus and then cryo or incinerate from Mordin followed quickly by headshots.

Against geths, Tali + Zaaed is a very potent combination of AI hack, energy drain, and disruptor ammo.
