I know there's a thread about this somewhere, but because there's no search function I can't find it at the moment. I am at the part where you first fight the Collectors on their ship, the part with the platforms, and am repeatedly getting my ass handed to me on a silver platter. I am a Soldier class and in need of desperate assistance, if anybody has any tips please share because I am getting a bit fed up with being murdered repeatedly for 20 mins.

collectors don't really come out there cover for point blank attacks much... try a sniper rifle with shredder of incendiary ammo, take out assassins and guradians or harbinger ASAP. the assassinss deal high damage with their beams, and the guardians annoying with their impenitrable deployed shields, and harbingers power biotics.

Who are your squadies? I found Mordin+Miranda were excellent against collectors on Insanity.

The search function is that text box with a magnifying glass in it next to the button that says "Go" on it. Or you could just look back beyond the first page of the forum and you'll run into several "Collector Ship on Insanity" threads within the first 3 pages.

Go look.

I took Thane and Miranda because they both have warp, though Mordin does seem like a logical choice now.

At one point I had a method for clearing the first platform without the game managing to spawn in a Harbinger, but that seems to be hit and miss at best now :/

Sorry, I didn't see any.
Edit: Sorry for the double post. Whenever I use the "search box" it takes me to random pages that I don't want.

oh... I would have throught Grunt and Mordin, i ALWAYS take them. Grunt is almost ustoppable at high levels, and mordin can burn or freee targets easily.

I passed this part a couple of hours ago on insanity, Had Miranda and Jacob. Squad Incendiary Ammo for Jacob and Warp from Miranda=win. Did not die once.

I just blast them with the Revenant and hope to hell that I don't die.

Mechs are actually one of the toughest on insanity. I use disruptor ammo against them, works pretty well. Oh and because you don't have too much time to fire against them, since they shoot a lot and fast, having geth shield also helps a lot...It buys a couple of more shots.

Try to take out as many of the drones as soon as possible so they don't have the ability to turn into super drones. have your squaddies attack one drone/assassin while you work on another. If you have viper sniper rifle, use that plus adrenaline rush, you should be able to take out at least 2 drones rather quickly.

When harbinger sends that ball that explodes and forces you from cover try to move away from it left to right while in cover.

Warp is very useful. Miranda is good, thane is also good, grunt is a tank, if he is upgraded.

it will probably take a couple of attempts took me 4 reloads at level 14 soldier.

Honesty when playing insanity against the collectors my best advice is to take out the drones ASAP. Also concentrate on the drones that are nearest to you base of operation.

Got past that part, thanks for the help everyone, Mordin did work out better than having two Warpers(?)

Yeah, that exploding ball really p*ssed me off. Moving left and right when it's coming at you, like snappyfingers says does work.

Usually.

I usually send grunt to say hi, while i give them a migrane...

in other words, grunt goes with close range, i blow their heads off with a sniper rifle.

I know, it was a major ****** off because as soon as you got hit by it you were screwed because of the Scions and their shockwaves.

ymir mechs are nuts to take out on insanity; basically the only way for me to beat them was to find cover that would force them into a walking bug where instead of trying to get closer to you they just shoot your cover. Then just use instant powers like warp to whittle them down. If you try using any weapon you can only shoot inbetween their bursts as opposed to anytime you have even 1% shielding for instant powers. A specific example of this cover is on garris loyalty mission - when the mechs get dropped run back the way you came up to the top barricade and hide there. For areas with no good cover like that you can use boxes as cover - keep moving around the box and they will never have a clear shot. If your faced with 2 ymir at once with no good cover around, then the only sane way to kill them is the nuke gun.

Scions are the second worst to heavy mechs :(

Use the Incisor sniper rifle instead. It will allow you to kill the drones faster using AdRush.

Scions were my least favorite. They killed my squad all the time. Just me left to solo them.

Scions are bastards. Massively wide blast on their weapons and they can fire it every 2 seconds or something.

Bioware, please nerf them. It's not even funny.

Hey, I had a bit of a question: If I import an ME1 save that starts me at level 5, will the enemies scale as I gain levels, or are they stagnant in terms of levels/powers on a single character? If they scale, does it make the fights gradually harder or gradually weaker.

I am trying to decide whether or not I should just go ahead on my level 18 Sentinel and do the mission with the Praetorian (Collector Ship maybe) or whether I should keep doing loyalty and N7 missions to level in preparation for the mission (i.e. to make it easier.) Thanks for any insight.

heh i found scions a lot easier than ymir mechs; they have less defence and their offence is much slower. they take forever to kill, but they arent a threat unless your forced out of cover. Horizon on insanity was very hard not because of the scions but because of the husks that break your cover and let the scions shoot you. So, in short - kill anything that is going to force you to break your cover first thing (this is true no matter what your facing) and youll be fine since they walk really slow you can easily whittle them down before they would break your cover themselves.

Samara with reave + Thane-->use warp explosions.Barriers go down pretty fast.
Use their throw and/or pull too.Miranda(is overrated as a squadmember anyway) is not the best choice for that because samara and thane have weapons with better range and accuracy.
