This is the future, where misogyny is the dinosaur held sacred only by gutter rats like Harkin.

FemShep has the training and experience to be every bit as lethal and intimidating as her dull male counterpart.

The walks don't bother me too much, I'll agree the dance animation is just lazy.

And I for one want to see FemShep on the covers and previews. Custom ManShep too. Death to Sheploo!

I love that they equalized the fanservice in that game. <3 Shirtless Madison balanced out by Shirtless Ethan, Madison in panties and bra, Ethan in tight little boxer shorts that showed off his round cute butt.

It made my top 3 games of all time list just for that. :D Equality for the win!

No I'm saying if one wants her to be feminine THEN she should be less capable.

intimidation is all attitude.  Size means very little.  Gender means even less.

I don't know if this is a serious post

You've never dealt with a professional, capable and competant female soldier, have you?  I know a few.  They don't need to be hulking brutes or be slinging tons of guns to scare the hell out of people.   Intimidations is all attitude.

Shepard, male or female, is portrayed as not just any Marine officer, but one that completed the Systems Alliance version of BUDS (SEAL training) and got tapped to be one of the feared enforcers/operators of the Citadel Council.  Shrpard doesn't need to be a giant of a man, or some man-eating hell**** of a woman, to get results.

As for the issue of FemShep not walking like a woman, well she is wearing a suit of hardened body armor and an inordiante amount of firepower on her person.  All that weight would likely make a woman move much differently.  It certianly does for guys.

Obviously. The issue is not that she isn't walking in a "feminine" manner, but that her animations aren't as smooth as MShep's because they were converted directly from MShep's animations, which are optimized for a different body shape. Look at her animation in ME1 and then switch to ME2 and you see what I mean. In ME1 she is as smooth as MShep, but in ME2 she's moving more stiffly, and less naturally.

It's understandable that Bioware will stick with one gender shep for their marketing and that for this type of game (sweeping generalizations aside) male shep fits that role. But it couldn't harm to indicate "Oh, by the way, here's some trailers and stuff showing a damn good female role as the lead character." At the very least it'd be some sort of small tribute to the great job that Hale has done.

Seems to me that it's a sin to hire someone who provides half of the player voice acting only to act as if that version of the character doesn't exist. And yet at the same time, the books and comics both maintain a gender neutral stance as far as Shepard is concerned.

So what you want female Shepard to punch someone and then start crying because she broke a nail? Grow up.

Heh.  Vanessa Shepard keeps hers trimmed, and headbutts krogan with impunity.  Without the helmet.  :P

Female Shepard is fine as she is. She's not a feminine person, the run animation is FINE when you take into account the fact that sprinting makes you catch some air, and differing her dialogue too much is going to make the next game four discs because responses from many NPCs will have to be tailored for both male and female story paths.
And her headbutting a krogan? Don't tell me that wasn't awesome.

It has  has nothing to do with if she a femine person or not , American game "Claim hyper realism  realism as a style art "   If it trying to look real then it should behave closer to reality .

. Real woman do not walk like men it just a fact of biology has nothing to do with any Puesdo American political correctness . . Don't care how masculine a woman is personality wise , Gun totting whatever.   biologically the shoulders are smaller than the hips and the and the walk cycle are different unless femshepard plans on getting a Futuristic Sex change any time to . Huge issue with American games obbessed with dumping millions of dollars into making a game look real while  animations are crap and feels nothing like real life and move like a Tonky truck . Unless we are  dealing with some bizzare political correct equality here with an emphasis of being afraid of actual woman.

Seems ironic they put all this effort into making codec explaining biology of there alien species yet can't lol make a biologically correct  animation walk cycle .

... Dude, what?

Anyway, this "feminine walk" is something I have never noticed or paid attention to in real life. If there's a sway to the hips, it's probably more a personality quirk than not because reviews around here are mixed.

I also did not notice this janky animation in female Shepard, although there was a instance that bothered me. I don't know how to explain it, but the walking animation just "resets" and leaves Shepard back in her standing position without any in-between animation. This does differ from ME2 where every step was animated, but that's my only issue.

By the way, Mass Effect, as all BioWare games are, is Canadian. Where's your god now?

Men have a much greater capacity for strength than women do. That's just a fact. A fact that counts even for tight-bodied work-out marine babes as well. Things like headbutting a krogan were already unrealistic enough when a well-built man was doing it, it's pretty laughable when the much smaller femShep has a go at it.

I don't care too much about her walk or her run or anything like that. Given that she is the protagonist it's safe to assume she doesn't exist as eye-candy for her male players. She doesn't need to be sexy - she's too busy showering off Collecter brain.

I am a bit puzzled that FemShep and MaleShep need the same dialog lines. I wonder if that has to do with the animations attached to those lines. Wouldn't surprise me.

Still, it would be great if they had different animations that fit their gender. Non-verbal communication determines for a large part how we interact. According to BW they have spend a lot of time on the eyes of characters. If hat's important to them then maybe this time the differences in non-verbal communication can get some attention. We can hope, can we?

Is there a poll which indicates how many of use play FemShep?

Wow. That's more than I thought...

Male to Female Gamers.

That's just a gender poll and doesn't count the FemSheps, though.

Except that by ME2 all Sheps are significantly boosted with both gene therapy and implants.  (Heavy muscle weave!)

Cyborg Shep = headbutting maniac.  Probably has to be careful when, uh, doing it though.

I agree that FemShep shouldn't be manly, but saying all gay women are manly is a stereotype, and an offensive one at that. =/

Intimidation is not about gender or size, it's about attitude, stance, personality etc. I've had several guys and girls tell me I'm an intimidating person (only when I'm trying to be, obviously >.>). Yeah....I'm 5'7" and I have about as much muscle as your average frog.

On a related note, you want to see an amazing female heroine? Go watch the Alien series and take some notes from Ellen Ripley. She's just about the best heroine I've seen in movies/games beside FemShep.
