Hello Awakening fans

We have started updating the Dragon Age Awakening wiki with new information. This wiki will chiefly iullustrate the cool new elements in Awakenign that are not in Dragon Age: Origins.

In today's update, we have updated a new Mage Specialization class the Battlemage. We've also added 4 new spells each with screenshots and a video of the spell in action. Check out Arcane Field, Elemental Chaos, Hand of Winter and Repulsion Field.

You can see all the updates on teh Awakenign wiki here: http://social.biowar...egory:Awakening. More updates next week. :)

VERY cool. I guess this is what I thought would be called "elementalist". Thanks for the info!

Umm... don't you think hand of winter is a LIIIITTLE bit too overpowered?

You know, it was funny. A while back, someone was complaining that of all the mage specs, there was none for just pure power. There's one for healing, 2 for a radically different way to play, and another for a different type of attacks. But none that focused on pure attacks upfront. I had thought his complains a tad unfounded, since we have plenty powerful offensive spells without a spec.

I mean sure, we have plenty of spells without a spec, but whenever I play, I use AW, and other specs are almost useless - I went Spirit Healer just for the hell of it.. If you're looking for pure power, you're assed out. This seems nice. However, I do hope that the next spec is some sort of nature user. Someone who uses plants. Then I would be in heaven :)

Druid will be the next one. Or herbalist. Or whatever. It was quite clear from the trailers. Anders will probably be a battle mage, while Velanna will be the other one.

It will be interesting to see how Battlemage works with Arcane Warrior, as both are very close-quarter-centric mage-specs.

Well, since we've already seen Velanna's tree-summoning in action, I suspect you can start practicing the harp now.

I have to say I'm a little surprised to see a third mage spec that's designed around allowing mages to melee. But the elemental damage spells are something that's been asked for, so that's all good.

The winter thing is like mindeblast with cold damage instead of the stun effect. Looks powerful.

The elemental chaos spell looks like a LOT of fun.

A different note:

Did anyone notice the talking darkspawn in one of those screenshots and one of the videos? Different weapons different locations. Seems that is a new darkspawn type and not a specific character.

Yes, that seems probable. Two different screenshots on this one:  http://social.biowar...hp/Arcane_Field

Probably related to the army that is mentioned by Sigrun.

Edit: There is even two of them in the bottom one.

The screenshot ones for Arcane Field are the blue talking darkspawn by the way (Mr. Blue). We have seen Mr. Blue now with two-handed axe in those screenshots, with bow and arrows in his first screenshot and with sword and shield in the awakening trailer.

While in the video for Repulsion Field we see Mr. Red wielding a two-handed sword, just as we had seen him spellcasting with a big sword slung over his shoulder in the awakening trailer.

in the Sigrun trailer we see a talking darkspawn with Mr. Blue's facial markings but not wearing blue...

edit: added more stuff

This looks like an awesome specialization and those spells looks incredibly useful, although I assume they're uber high level.

I'm betting that Arcane Warrior and Battle Mage won't work well together, since Arcane Warrior puts such a drain on Mana. I can't hardly wait to get my hands on it.

If you've already given two specializations to your character in DA, can you get these?

There is one to the left with a shield and the one with a twohanded axe. Pretty much confirms it.

It's still up in the air whether we are getting a 3rd point (I'm thinking no) but either way, there's a respec book you can buy in Awakening

That was something I was thinking as well, although admittedly it does fit the "pure spellcaster" better - while some battlemages may learn the specialisation so they can mix it up in close, others might in fact be regular I'll-spell-you-from-a-distance mages who learn battlemage techniques just so they can have a good surprise for anyone who thinks they can play "gank-the-mage".

...Kinda like how I imagine Shapeshifting might be used if it actually worked.

Looks fun. Quick question though--does the minor health regeneration bonus that comes with the specialization stack with the one that comes with the spirit healer specialization? That is, is it treated as an ability or just +health regen like on the ring Lifegiver?

Thanks for the update! Looks really cool. Now I wonder if I can combine those spells with weapons as an Arcane Warrior.
