Champions and Templars still put most of their points in Strength/Dex, and the points you put into Willpower are useful even when not using the specialisation (maybe not as useful as more points in Str/Dex, but extra Stamina is still good to have). Your Shapeshifter is facing serious multiple-attribute dependencies issues, though - the mage part wants Magic and Willpower, the shapeshifter part wants Strength and Dex (in sufficient quantities that you can actually hit and hurt things while not being pounded yourself), and whatever points you've put in to whatever form you're not in are basically wasted. Put all your points into Magic and Willpower like a normal mage, and you're effectively just that. Put'em all into Strength and Dex and you've basically turned the character into a Mabari. Split'em, and you get "sucks at everything" syndrome.

More importantly, though, the Shapeshifter isn't supposed to need these attributes - it's supposed to derive its physical stats from the character's Spellpower when transformed, and doesn't. It's bugged, pure and simple.

Really, if there's any mage specialisation that should need Strength and Dex, it's the Arcane Warrior, since that involves fighting in your own form. Shapeshifter should be the specialisation where you can dump your physical stats entirely because, hey, you can always change into something better.

why would anyone want a battle mage combo with AW? aw is there to act like a paladin. it is basically a tank that fights meelee with a sword.

I would use battlemage more with my primal mage as it could use it repulsion wave to push enemies into my aoe spells

The shape-shifter does work. Need to add points in str and dex.

Seriously, wtf? What kind of mage puts any points in STR? That goes against what they should be doing.

I hope this game fixes that problem.

"What kind of mage puts any points in STR?" ... A Shape-Shifter. Just like a Blood Mage should put points in CON, or the Champion should put some extra in WILL. There is no problem.

Even shapeshifters aren't supposed to put points in str/ dex because their magic stat boosts their str/dex/con while shapeshifted. Only problem is that the rate at which your stats increase is way too low.

elemental chaos:
Sustained

Range: Personal

Upkeep: 140

Fatigue 10%

Cooldown: 10s

that is alot of upkeep for a AW.

same goes for hands of winter: Activation: 85.

My AW has about 150 mana (might be a bit less) with all abilities on.

battle mage would be better for a damage dealer mage with a large manapool.

AW with druid spells of velana... now that is an army :D

Well the same could be said about arcane warrior. Why would a mage want to tank? If you want to tank make a regular warrior.

because the AW spells are good to tank with. especially with all the buffs you can get

I agree make a pally idea. I have shape shifter class mage and I don't have a problem with adding dex and str to it. My magic is just fine at lvl 12 I have at 36.

My AW has 404 left over with all abilities on (the ones i keep on always). To me these seem to be spell ur going to activate and just use ur sword, can't see an AW casting many spells while these are activated. IMO though just these spell comboed with my sword is going to be highly damaging and sick

Sick.  All we need now is for Bioware to reveal the talents for it.

My arcane warrior has 70 magic 62 constitution 40 willpower and 20 dex. (with the armor and the accessories) I paired him up with the blood mage specialization so i could stun enemies wth an AOE effect then finish them off with auto attack. My activated spells are rock armor, arcane shield, shimmering shield, combat magic, miasma, and haste. My armor is the juggernaut set with the spell weaver and redcliffe elite shield. (note I used the attribute bug in origins) And a tanking mage is sometimes better than a warrior but the warrior can kill much faster with the SnS offensive skills.
