Just please tell me that the romance thing will be available in future games. Both with your former companions and whatever new ones come along. I, myself, like having romance options in games, rather than just hack and slash, kill, kill, kill. That gets boring after so long with games. Romance and interaction with NPC's makes for a far better gaming experience. I think, anyway. It's why Jade Empire and Dragon Age are my two most favorite games I've ever played.

So... your not getting the expansion because Dog isn't in it? Wierd, but it's your money I guess. Whatever floats your boat.

The expansion represents a complete lack of connection to my warden's story and the choices he made. There's little reason his Romantic interest wouldn't be with him, but there's no valid reason his dog wouldn't be with him. (Especially given that he's the human nobleman.) There's just no reason the dog would still be alive and not with him. None.

It would be like saying my left arm won't be in the expansion.

So in short, I'm paying nearly the full price of the original game to lose all my favorite characters and have them replaced with the very unispired selections we have so far. Not terribly interested. Whatever happens in Awakening isn't my warden's tale. Maybe on the next game.

I will miss my dog too, but maybe you're dog is off somewhere with your missing love interest, since it should techcially be loyal to that person now too. I don't know. :)

I was looking forward to this expansion, I paid for it in full last month in fact, but honestly I am getting nervous and thinking about getting my money back and just waiting to see what others think of it. They took out the romance option, which adds a lot to the game in my opinion. And it sounds like they just plan to "sweep under the rug" any romances if your character is imported. If this is the case then it would also take the fun out of the original game, knowing there is no point in a relationship. I only hope that it will at the very least acknowledge relationships, or that you are Queen or King or just tie in to how you ended DAO. And Oghren. Why?? I would probably use him as much as I do now. Which is to say, very little, unless I want a laugh. If there is a two-handed weapon fighter in my party, it is me. I would rather Alistair, Wynne, or Zevran, characters that I find quite usefull. It sounds to me like you could just call this a new game altogether and I won't even bother importing my character. And that stinks. Before this game I was not what you would call a fan of RPGs. DAO brought a whole bunch of things that made me really enjoy it and actually became my favorite game. I'm just a little dissapointed in how this is sounding I guess since they are removing some of the things that made me love the original game. And why so many mages? What would be the point of being a mage yourself.
( I'm done ranting. Sorry about the tantrum)

Don't apologize...I was looking forward to romances as well in the expansion. I'll still buy it and play it because I love the Dragon Age world, but it will take a great deal of the fun out of it for me with no romances. :(

Hi all,

We've been watching your questions here on the forums and have compiled a list of answers to some of the questions we see come up over and over. We hope you enjoy and that this clears up some details for you. We'll keep watching for more community questions that we can provide answers to in future updates.

Why don’t my DLC items carry forward?

The rewards in Awakening quickly outpace the best items you’d find from Origins and Origins’ DLC. The root of the issue is that the previously released DLC was not built in such a way that those DLC items import properly into Awakening.

Rather than spending the resources addressing this thorny issue in multiple DLCs, we spent our time adding features and polish that made Awakening better. We believed that since the gear was quickly replaced that this wasn’t a major issue. We are currently investigating solutions for a possible patch. Some silver lining to this, the “Power of Blood” abilities from Warden’s Keep do import properly into Awakening.

Should I gear up in standard Origins gear before loading my save game into Awakenings?

It’s a good idea to wear your best gear going into Awakenings but we said above, don’t expect to be wearing it for too long. The challenges in Awakening are greater, but so are the rewards. There are lot of very nice upgrades to be found in stores, the fresh corpses of fallen foes, and sometimes with the help of a rogue’s lockpicking skills.

Why don’t any of my Origins followers come across except Oghren?

We wanted to tell new stories in Awakening and introduce a new memorable cast of characters. Thedas is a big place full of all sorts of exciting things we want to explore. The companions in Origins are still in the Dragon Age universe and possibly up to things you’ll see in the future.

Oghren was brought back for a variety of reasons. Most people did “Paragon of Her Kind” late in their Origins playthrough so even though he’s a great character he didn’t get much air time. A lot of folks loved him (not the least of which was the Awakening team) so we wanted to reprise his role and give him more time in the limelight. He’s a great addition to Awakening, adding levity at moments to otherwise heavy stories.

Why are there no romances in Awakening?

The story is primarily about the threats to Amaranthine, which if left unchecked could threaten Ferelden and more. The new companions were designed to be tightly integrated into that story. To make them romanceable characters we’d have designed them quite differently and would’ve changed several of the plots. We didn’t want to just tack on romance options. Short version – not all stories need to have a love interest.

What happened to my dog? Is he dead?

No, your dog isn’t dead. Your faithful hound is still out there. He’s just not on this adventure. We wanted to introduce new characters in Awakening and although Dog doesn’t speak – the loveable mutt still needs a lot of cinematic attention to bring to life. So we spent our time on new characters that are more tightly integrated into the story.

How many new mage spells will there be?

There are 2 new specializations and 2 new spell trees for all mages for a total of 16 new spells. We will update the FAQ to correct this information.

Will my choices be reflected at all in Awakening? For example, will Allistair, Logaine or Wynne react to decisions I made in Origins?

The cameos definitely react to your decisions in Origins. Depending on your Origin choices you may not even see them.

I think it goes without saying that the Morrigan romance will be addressed in future games. But if this is the ONLY one I will be extremely disappointed since she is my LEAST favorite character from Origins. She's deceitful and manipulative and I don't like people like that in real life. :) Let's just say I've known too many of them and it always ended badly.

Where does Awakening fit in the DLC plan? Is it the new standard for future DLC, where it'll require Awakening to use - or will all future DLC remain on the Origins storyline?

I don't think that answers the dog thing very well. Where exactly is he? Thanks for answering the other questions though.

My hound will be at home in the Castle with my hubby King Alistair. I'm certain he will be well taken care of while I'm gone; Ali can give him some beef bones and they can play fetch.

(Sincerly) I like the way you answered this question.  You gave us the marketing part first which I call shenanigans as my warden had time to romance multiple companions and camboodle here and there during a Blight.  However the bolded part is the interesting part as the romance subplots have been an integral part of Bioware games for about a decade and no one has a clear perception on how much this impacts enjoyment of the game or immersion.  It is a very small cost I would assume to add romance especially if you go the ME route which is 3 extra conversations and classy giggidy scene but it might increase people's enjoyment of the game.  I myself found the romances to be bad in DA:O compared with ME2 and BGII excluding Alistair which was well written.  I'm generally curious as too how much the fan base will react to lack of romances, is it a big deal for a lot of people, is it a big deal for a small number of people, or is it just wasted resources?  Being an expansion it will be hard to evaluate this as expansions usually mean less demand but it will be interesting lurking the fan base after launch.

I just want to be able to 'kiss/love' Alistair in Awakening when my PC has interactions with him. I can understand if he cannot be a companion but I do need some quality Ali time if I'm married to him.

So do I. lol

you know what is funny is that there seems to be a correllation between how well bioware s products are received and whether or not there are roamntic interests (now mind you I do not think it is necessarily having the romance itself but how it indicates the level of development for the characters as a whole).  i mean think about it the worst neverwinter nights expansion was shadows of undrentide (for the majority) and it was the ONLY one without a romance or really well developed characters, storm of zehir was the worst neverwinter knights 2 expansion and again the only one without a romance or character relationships...bioware has yet to prove they can make an engaging expansion without including romance (which I thinks speaks to the amount of charcter development as a whole)

Well its one of those things that should be incredibly obvious I thought. Its hard for a game to be emotionally engaging when your emotions aren't engaged. Once you force the player in this expansion to put aside everything they're emotionally attached to just for the sake of 'killing new stuff' you create a disconnect between their story and the world they live in.

It doesn't mean the expansion is without merit, of course. Just that It shelved an important part of what made Origins so great. Its heart.

Well said.

exactly. if you really read they answers to the FAQ, its all about lack of time and lack of will to pay writers and other teams needed. if awakening would have romances but came out a month later ... i would of HAPPILY waited. i just think its a pointless omission.

Heck, I'm a writer...I'll write some romance stories for Bioware for free. :)

They said that if we are willing to use the dead warden, basically we are willing to accept flaws in the story. Thats the impression I got, and if we don't like it then we don't use the dead warden. I don't have a problem with this, I just think I won't be using a dead character. Start a new file in Origins, or load an earlier save and let Alistair take the hit if it is such a problem. I'm getting the impression that there will be no story to explain the warden being alive if they made the sacrifice.
And I'm with you shedevil I preodered Awakening as well and now I'm feeling like I should have waited.

Maybe they can create a...the Maker intervened type story to explain it. The Maker raises you from the dead because your destiny has yet to be fulfilled. I don't know. lol Just throwing it out there. :)

I'm reminded a bit of the Shivering Isles expansion for Oblivion, nothing at all to do with the main game but it turned out good. Hopefully this will as well. But in Oblivion your character isn't as personalized as Dragon Age. People think that everyone is just complaining about the lack of sex scenes, but thats not it at all. You develop your character in this game and it will be sad if they ruin that. I don't want 20 hours of just killing darkspawn. And why Oghren!!! I want my pooch! Dog armor sounds cool too! Maybe I'll work on a mod.

I played Oblivion and I loved it, but I didn't like how it was just my character out there in the world. And I was jealous that all of these NPC had friends and families and husbands and wives but my character couldn't have any of that. :)

Thanks! You think like me. I have a husband and children, but I am very dissapointed about the relationship thing. It added more personality to the game. Half the time I play through particular ways just to see how a relationship will go. Amen to your post HagSpawn.

Yes, it did kind of give your character a personality. They weren't just wading through the game killing everything they saw because that's what they were supposed to do. And I do that too: I like messing around with all the romanceable characters just to see how they react to each other out in the world. ;) It's very entertaining at times.

Yeah I really want my items to carry over. OK as stated they might not be as powerful for the job but it's something to start with. And I love starfang...damn it I want STARFANG!
And Dog would of been lovely to have. I'm a dog person...Bioware you are going to be on ASPCA's most wanted list!

I like Starfang too. Not only does it look good but it's wicked powerful. But I think I'll be able to live without the DLC. Mind you, I haven't played Return to Ostagar yet, so that might change when I can't take the SENTIMENTAL items with me. We'll see. And I'm also an animal lover and work with pets in real life, so I was a little sad that my dog won't be there. He reminds me a lot of my favorite charge. :)

I REALLY REALLY hope there are a lot more rings and belts in Awakenings.  I think some toons had silver and gold rings (no stats) :(.  And I hate switching gear between characters.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone at Bioware for taking the time to talk to your fans & answer a few simple little questions. A lot of Devs would never even consider something so minor to be so important to some people, the random $10 raise in PC price made me feel like I was being robbed & that price still stings a little but after seeing how much effort Bioware is putting into keeping the fans happy by weekly or even more often updates & answering our many questions I just appreciate so much that I am gonna go rereserve Awakening!

Thanks again to everyone at Bioware, all us fans greatly & truly appreciate all the hard work! :)

I dunno, I think it's still only 2. And in truth I hope it is only 2... but now that you can re-spec if you want a new spec you can easily get it.

Apostate is more ''canon'' if you ask me. Since she admit she is not a friend material and despise other ''do-gooder'' people.

I dont know how well she fit as a court person.

Well as I picture Morrigan is all about survival and power, she's probably there in the Orlesian court..manipulating things to her own advantage once again.    As for being or not being friend material, that depends entirely on you. :)

I have gotten Morrigan to 100% approval by endgame..without there ever being any romance involved.  Several times as a matter of fact.   I think its got to do with how you as a person view her.

If you come into it thinking she's just a hag and not redeemable..of course possibly your responses to her are going to reflect that same attitude.     She's my best friend forever..with no romance in many of my play-throughs. :)
