What happened to my dog? Is he dead?
No, your dog isn’t dead. Your faithful hound is still out there. He’s just not on this adventure. We wanted to introduce new characters in Awakening and although Dog doesn’t speak – the loveable mutt still needs a lot of cinematic attention to bring to life. So we spent our time on new characters that are more tightly integrated into the story.
He's not a mutt!

I think the DA owes its popularity due its being story driven game - and a some extra effort in ensuring smoother plot transitions can only enhance the franchise. Cameos are one tool in this effort; but cinema is not always necessary to create the illusion of plot continuity.
If DLC items are a technical challenge I am sure this will be fixed

I think it would not have been too difficult to more tightly couple the expansion to the DAO... the designer can always take some liberties, For example a dead warden can be revealed as only in a stupor - Morrigans ritual occurred, irregardless of the wardens wishes, stealing the essence of the archdemon away.

I couldn't agree more. However, the problem with the dead warden is that from what I read, they have no intention of explaining what happened. They basically said that if you don't have a problem with waving off the story and importing a dead warden, neither do they. This has the capacity to still be a good expansion, but these cameos better be good. Otherwise you took a ton from the original game. How the heck did my character become queen (princess consort, or whatever) and then suddenly the warden commander. Waiving off the storyline is not going to work for me. And I have no doubt that either an end user or bioware themselves will come up with a way to import the weapons. End users have done some amazing mods for this game already.

Clearly reports of the US Warden's Death have been greatly exaggerated, and it was all just a flesh wound (now where's my Black Knight armour?)

Do we get a third specialization point?
I doubt it you get to respec your charecter this include specializations talent skills and attributes, which is very nice.
I will be happy to get read of one or two skills that are rather useless to my build

This spills over into a new distrust for any future buyable DLC for Mass Effect 2. How can I trust that "techincal" problems won't arrise in that game as well. It makes me very glad I did not buy (or have) any of the DLC besides that which came with the initial 1st run copy.

To me this isn't an expansion it’s a whole new game. An expansion would have been the ability to go back and fourth like the DLC’s. When you expand your house you don’t tear it down then build a new one on top of it and say I expanded it. With this “expansion” I’m going to have 2 characters with the same name but will be totally different I’ll never be able to go back and fourth between the 2 games. I mean there are some people who are working on modules that are expansions and add to the existing game and if I go to awakening I couldn’t use that character to continue on to these modules I would need to play with my original character. I hear people say why would you want to bring the same equipment over, its simple because I earned it. It wasn’t given to me or bought it in a store and if I am going to get better stuff in Awakening because the monsters are bigger that must mean that they have to jack up the levels of the players to meet that demand even if they didn’t complete Origins. If you are bringing dead people back to life after their sacrifice this isn’t an expansion and lets not call it an expansion because its not. As for the dog thing goes I have to agree that if you are a human noble it isn’t a dog it’s your companion. Its like a cowboys horse he wouldn’t go anywhere with out it.
Super post. A whole new game to me. Could have slapped on a new name and charged 60 buck instead of 40, sounds like to me. Shivering Isles was completely seperate from Oblivion, but you could still go back and forth.

You know, we are talking about Bioware and EA here. They should have no problem spending a little coin to please their fans. Dog can't cost a lot of money compared to creating all new characters! I think my problem here is that they are totally cutting us off from the decisions we make in Origins. We get to know all of our companions and then they are just gone? Some new characters are ok but I am disappointed that only 1 of our original is returning, and Oghren of all people. We forge friendships and romances in DAO, and now they have taken the fun out of that. Why bother playing the original at all at this point. Again I will say it just sounds like an all new game to me. Not an expansion of the game I love.
This is an expansion designed to expand on the story of origins adding more plot & new experiences, why don't you just keep playing origins if you don't want anything to change? I know ppl don't like change but if we keep the same armor, companions, weapons, game options, then you're paying for nothing. We already know all there is to about our companions & we've seen all we can in origins. This is supposed to be a new experience offering new content not selling us a $40 expansion with 80% of the content recycled.
Actually..I think this expansion is to "tie up loose ends" basically..thats why missing dlc, missing "romance" and other things. One of the Devs did say something about Origins being done..and moving forwards ..not his exact words..but something to that effect.
Still...you can't fault people for stating they are going to miss their characters, they were well written, well-done.
