You guys might as well never buy another game, because none of them feature Alistair, Dog, Leilana, whoever else. :P

Man, Bioware must have done a great job at character writing because you people just can't let go, at all, heh heh. You love their characters so much that you're unwilling to buy a game that doesn't have them, yet you have no faith that Bioware knows what they're doing after proving to us time and time again that in the RPG genre, they're probably the best out there.

I wouldn't boycott it were I you. Bioware knows what they're doing, it all makes sense in the story and these characters will be more deeply tied to the story of Awakenings and thus keep other non-essential characters from dragging to down because they have no business being there.

We shall see in a few weeks :innocent:

Shedevil, totally off subject, I noticed your avatar and I have the same hair mods. I am starting a hf noble file with the intention of importing over to Awakening, and I totally hate the hair in vanilla DA. My concern is that if I use the modded hair, it won't carry over and I'll have to start over again. Have you heard anything?

The modders are going to be busy methinks..as we were told that possibly some of the existing mods created for Origins may not be compatible or work in Awakening.

You are ABSOLUTELY right on the character writing..they did a fine job, so much so that everyone is going to miss their companions big time, be it because of romance,  hard won friendships...or battle buddies.

Human nature to not to want to let go.......thats how it is.   Especially when you get involved in the story and the people like that.

I've said it before I'll say it again...DA:O Origins is like an excellent book that I hate to put down...or come to the end of.

If it doesn't carry over, you'll probably end up with a giant hole in your head. That's what happened to my character when I used an incompatible hair file. It was kinda funny for a bit. Fortunately my first character to go through Awakening (<---) has a vanilla hairstyle, and by the time I get around to using the others, hopefully the modders will have fixed them.

Couldn't agree more. Which is why I really hope you can take DA:O's PC all the way through these games (However many there end up being). Much like you played the same Child of Bhaal throughout all the Baldurs Gate series. DA certainly has a plot scope that could easily accomplish this.

Also agree completely.  This is the first Bioware game I've played, and I'm incredibly impressed by the character development.  The thing that gets me is this: would they dare try to develop a canon story, considering the nature of the first game?  There are some things that can be written off or ignored, but other things are very difficult.

For example, let's say you're a male human noble in a relationship with Leliana at story's end.  They can tie that one up easily without repercussion, because it's an aside to the main plot.  It doesn't change anythign drastic going into Awakening.  However, if you're a female human noble and get into a relationship with Alistair, and take that to the happy-ending conclusion, you're in a position of power and extreme relevance to the main storyline.  Changing the details of that for the sake of canon would be pretty bad, doubly so because of the number of details they stuck themselves with in that particular ending.

That's really my biggest fear, and the only thing that would kill the story for me: a gratuitous lack of continuity.  Being realistic, I think there's a slim chance of this happening because in a recent interview with a producer the poor guy had a huge grimace when he mentioned the one particular circumstance where you shouldn't be able to bring your character back, but they're allowing it.  But I still worry, and I hope they stick to their guns even though developing multiple stories is difficult.  It really shouldn't be much more complicated than dealing with all of the origin stories.

My thoughts exactly, although you wrote it better than I have. Maybe people will understand my point better.

I'm going to cry huge tears. Seriously though, I'm playing through as a hf noble now, with the intention of using her for Awakening. I am having trouble getting as involved in the game as I know that none of the friendships/romances you build will make much a difference in Awakening. By taking all of the characters out that we have come to know in Origins, they have taken some of the fun out, at least for me anyway. And a romance with Alistair is a very important part of the female noble story line. Since we can't have him as a companion in Awakening, they had better plan on acknowledging our relationship at the very least. I just hope they haven't blown the story. I have a bad feeling....

I will ask this question here as a Dev might see it or someone else might know, will there be a set back for the PS3 version in Australia? as the person asking in another thread only saw a date release for 360 and PC.

theres only a download for the ps3 as far as i know

Yeah that's what we found out, sadly it's not making AU ps3 users happy as like most, they want the hardcopy and case :(
I would love to know what req's they have to meet with Sony to give AU ps3 players a hardcopy.

No, I originally had the PS3 copy of awakening reserved at gamestop, as I originally played DA on the PS3. I just switched it over to PC when I discovered the cool mods that can be downloaded. The game comes out for the PS3 on the 16th, with the downloadable version becoming available through the playstation store on the 18th. Thats what I've read.

Oh, well I don't know about that I'm in the US. My reciept for both my cancelled PS3 and my PC reserve says March 16th. But with the PS3 you never know. Heck they are going to release return to ostagar for the PS3 on the 11th, which is stupid cause none of the stuff will import to awakening. I won't bother downloading it.

I hope so I'm in love with Starfang. It looks sooo cool. I'm so sad Alistair won't be in Awakening. I'm playing through origins right now and it makes me want to cry.

He will be in awakening and you will still have a romance with him (albiet one that doesn't progress), be happy for that. There is a very good chance fans of Leliana, Sten, Dog, Zevran, and Shale may never see the, agian.

Besides, as much as I love oghren, I wouldn't be heartbroken if he didn't appear in awakening, I mean I had three playthroughs with the guy. Well over 100 hours with the dwarf. Can't say we didn't have our fun.

No we had fun lol. I still laugh about the roast nug at that chicks dad's funeral. That is some funny stuff. Not to change the subject, but how do you get to the drinking game with Oghren? I have yet to do that.

If design works out this second time through DAO the PC will be Alistair's Princess Consort. After one last kiss and night in bed together will the King let the Queen and Oghren go off adventuring without him?

I assume 'proting' your PC into Awakening can only happen if your Origins character has finished that game? Otherwise you could be playing your past and future character at the same time? And maybe your future Awakening PC could change something in the past Origins game?

For the games far future does BioWare intend us to be able to port the original PC into DA2 and DA3? And does anyone know if us Grey Wardens are going to find a cure to prevent dying at around 30 years? If the PC characters can follow through into each subsequent game will the Princess Consort have children--with the King staying home to take care of them? :)  Heh, I guess Alistair's answer will be 'no-way!'

I'm curious if there will be any new weapons, and i'm not talking about reskinning the current weapon types there is right now. Personally i'd like to see something akin to a spear as its a personal fav weapon of mine. Swords are cool but a spear wielder just has a certain... buzz! lol

Some new daggers would be cool. I mean the only way to get real cool looking weapons is by downloading mods. And new mages robes, that would be nice as well.

I think i'll wait a couple days before buying the game. Hopefully the hair mods will be good to use.
