What about our Gold? and items in Inventory? Are they going to be carry over just fine? All that I'm concerned about are my assets here.

For some the DLC items aren't important for their power, they are important for their characters story line reasons. Why is everyone focused on how powerful those items were? I could give a darn less if something from DLC will be underpowered in the expansion... there are pieces of it that have sentimental value to my characters (Dalish Promise Ring for example). Yes, I am one of those crazy folks who actually Role Plays in an RPG.. so little things like that are extremely important.
There is no possible reason my Dalish Elf would ever give up his promise ring just because hes moving to a new area to fight bad guys... yet he will not be able to have it because no DLC items carry forward? That is a big sticking point to me.
I won't go into the romances or companions thing, It sounds to me like the expansion is being pushed out too fast and way too much had to be left on the cutting room floor, but thats just my opinion. I will still end up getting the expansion, I just don't see the reasoning behind some of the decisions (even with the explanation, too much market ninja influence :/)

Finally, a succinct, straight forward answer.Victor Wachter wrote...
Hi all,
We've been watching your questions here on the forums and have compiled a list of answers to some of the questions we see come up over and over. We hope you enjoy and that this clears up some details for you. We'll keep watching for more community questions that we can provide answers to in future updates.
Why don’t my DLC items carry forward?
The rewards in Awakening quickly outpace the best items you’d find from Origins and Origins’ DLC. The root of the issue is that the previously released DLC was not built in such a way that those DLC items import properly into Awakening.
Rather than spending the resources addressing this thorny issue in multiple DLCs, we spent our time adding features and polish that made Awakening better. We believed that since the gear was quickly replaced that this wasn’t a major issue. We are currently investigating solutions for a possible patch. Some silver lining to this, the “Power of Blood” abilities from Warden’s Keep do import properly into Awakening.
Thank you Victor. This is all I needed to quiet my whining.

Same here, aside from where my character name came from - his name is Frostmourn(e), I couldn't squeeze in the "e" but whatever. Anyways, I've been using Winter's Breath since the start. Dragging that stick away from me would totally break my RP Stori!carlosjuero wrote...

Winters Breath is unique in that it happens to be Both a DLC item, and a Stock item at the same time.... will it port?

I still don't like the no romance / no old companions (Oghren was so unpopular with me that I won't count him) thing. Somehow I fear we'll never see all of our companions again in a meaningful manner.
Apparently budget restrictions won't let BW put them in expansions and the need to appeal to new costumers prevents them from putting them in a sequel. Well I guess they'll at least finish the Morrigan storyarch somewhere along the line. Hopeful in a prominent manner and not just in a measly 1-2hour DLC.
Anyhow, I am sure Awakening will turn out fine. It'll just not be what I wanted it to be...oh well no pre-order from me, but if the fan reviews are good (and it's not too short on content) I'll guess I'll be buying it shortly after release.

Please, Bioware. Rethink your decision of the DLC omission and let us have it in the expansion. Even if there's stuff that'll be vastly superior, allow us to make that judgement call ourselves as to whether or not we wish to do the replacing. I'm willing to bet that if it's included, it'll go a goodly long ways towards the consumers being more inclined to purchase further DLC.

It's good to hear a decent enough reason, I was sure there had to be one. Still, I'll probably wait until the patch is available before buying the expansion. I really made no distinction while playing Origins as to what was DLC and what was Vanilla, and I'd rather not break immersion worrying about it now. I really do love BioWare rpgs, and I'd rather not Awakenings have a big black eye when I play it.
The possibility of a patch is great, the actuality of one will be better.

When you said you had issues importing the DLCs in, would that necessarily apply to the items that we made in the toolset? I understand if you can't be sure, but would it be atleast possible for it to be there? Given that with most new models i've done, i've used the override folder
Think they stated somewhere that "some" of the mods that are existing currently "might" not be compatible with Awakening.

I don't think that answers the dog thing very well. Where exactly is he? Thanks for answering the other questions though.
My hound will be at home in the Castle with my hubby King Alistair. I'm certain he will be well taken care of while I'm gone; Ali can give him some beef bones and they can play fetch.

Yes, Alistair looks so dashing as he bounds across the palace green with the bone in his mouth.

Why are there no romances in Awakening?
The story is primarily about the threats to Amaranthine, which if left unchecked could threaten Ferelden and more. The new companions were designed to be tightly integrated into that story. To make them romanceable characters we’d have designed them quite differently and would’ve changed several of the plots. We didn’t want to just tack on romance options. Short version – not all stories need to have a love interest.
(Sincerly) I like the way you answered this question. You gave us the marketing part first which I call shenanigans as my warden had time to romance multiple companions and camboodle here and there during a Blight. However the bolded part is the interesting part as the romance subplots have been an integral part of Bioware games for about a decade and no one has a clear perception on how much this impacts enjoyment of the game or immersion. It is a very small cost I would assume to add romance especially if you go the ME route which is 3 extra conversations and classy giggidy scene but it might increase people's enjoyment of the game. I myself found the romances to be bad in DA:O compared with ME2 and BGII excluding Alistair which was well written. I'm generally curious as too how much the fan base will react to lack of romances, is it a big deal for a lot of people, is it a big deal for a small number of people, or is it just wasted resources? Being an expansion it will be hard to evaluate this as expansions usually mean less demand but it will be interesting lurking the fan base after launch.
I just want to be able to 'kiss/love' Alistair in Awakening when my PC has interactions with him. I can understand if he cannot be a companion but I do need some quality Ali time if I'm married to him.

you know what is funny is that there seems to be a correllation between how well bioware s products are received and whether or not there are roamntic interests (now mind you I do not think it is necessarily having the romance itself but how it indicates the level of development for the characters as a whole). i mean think about it the worst neverwinter nights expansion was shadows of undrentide (for the majority) and it was the ONLY one without a romance or really well developed characters, storm of zehir was the worst neverwinter knights 2 expansion and again the only one without a romance or character relationships...bioware has yet to prove they can make an engaging expansion without including romance (which I thinks speaks to the amount of charcter development as a whole)

Well its one of those things that should be incredibly obvious I thought. Its hard for a game to be emotionally engaging when your emotions aren't engaged. Once you force the player in this expansion to put aside everything they're emotionally attached to just for the sake of 'killing new stuff' you create a disconnect between their story and the world they live in.
It doesn't mean the expansion is without merit, of course. Just that It shelved an important part of what made Origins so great. Its heart.

It all comes down to playstyles..methinks, some are more into roleplaying...some are more into killing bosses..
Bioware made a great story in my opinion..and its too bad..really too bad that they can't give us more of the same, they got us attached to the characters/interaction be it romantic or not.
Then whoop they are gone. I think in some ways the fans are actually missing those characters, and I would say that would be a normal reaction..even down to missing the Dog.

well i have read the new faq and this is my synopsis
why awakening doesn't contain romances?
cause it implies increasing development costs
why awakening doesn't contain old companions?
cause it implies increasing development costs
why awakening doesn't contain origins dlc items?
cause it implies incresing development costs- just shut up and take the uber items form the new hack n'slash expansion
why you will not buy awakening?
cause you were succesful in cutting costs but cutted also a lot of content so i think it's better to cut my costs too
