I just want to know why... the System Alliance makes pink amour.
They don't. It's manufactured by the Sirta Foundation. Which fact implies that Kaidan actually went out and bought himself a set, apparently for special occasions like catastrophic hull breaches and the like.

Maybe he thought he'd be easier to see in the even of an emergency? Or that it would add levity to a grave situation?

He wants to be one of the girls
He sits in that place inside of the ship
And tries to look like he's straight
He picks himself up and he frowns
And he says "What the hell's all this fire
and smoke?"
And he clothes himself in that Phoenix gear
As the crew runs past like panicked sheep
Pretty in pink...isn't he...
Pretty in pink...
Isn't he?
All of his crewmates all talk of the end
And the atmosphere starting to vent
And what's up with that armor?
And isn't he pretty in pink?
There's one who insists it belonged
to that girl, but he can't remember her name
Yeah, he's walking around in that armor Ash wore.
She's gone, but the pink's still the same
Pretty in pink...isn't he...
Pretty in pink...
Isn't he?
Alenko talks to you softly sometimes
He says "Commander" and some other stuff
He doesn't really have anything
useful to say,
And nothing you'd want to touch.
He yells
And puts on his mask
You tell him to go
And he gives you a whine but
finally leaves...
Pretty in pink...isn't he...
Pretty in pink...
Isn't he?

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

Developers were lazy and decided to use the same code for armor for Kaidan.
Yeah...and then lazily went to the trouble of making him a unique helmet for the intro, another set of armor for Liara in the intro, and then his own suit of armor for the Horizon scene. It's either a mistake no one caught or cared about, or someone actually thought the scene played better that way.

The N7 armor from the opening sequence works out good with Legion as well as Conrad Vernor's replica, but it doesn't look anything like what I wore in the 1st game. So... designing all that stuff for just a tiny segment probably didn't seem like it mattered too much.
To be totally honest, though, it does kind of bother me, too. Not because it's pink, but because it's Ashley's. I hate when RPGs make you feel as if "No! Your decisions are all wrong!" Like Ashley is SUPPOSED to be alive, instead.

What did the female soldier look like when she rushed to her locker only to find her armor gone because Kaidan took it ?

You are all smart. You are all so clever. Here's a cookie.
BUT PLEASE! Will someone tell me the real reason, or at least a humerous fictional one, why Kaidan is wearing pink armor at the beginning of ME2?
My desire to know outweighs the risk of the epic flamming I'm now bracing myself for. *borrows Alistairs shield and ducks*
Bioware is foreshadowing Kaidan as a M/M relationship in ME3.

I always assumed that it was simply the only armor that was designed to look like it's from the 1st game. I suppose the devs were too lazy to design something beyond a replica of Ashley's armor. Kaidan can only wear light armor in ME, but he shows up on Horizon wearing somthing that looks suspiciously like heavy.
Good eye. I missed that. It's actually the medium version of the Onyx armor from ME1, though, and not anything new. It's not really too different from Onyx Light, either.

Well..no. This led me to realize that Shep's armor in the intro is just ME1's Onyx Heavy, so it turns out they recreated three different ME1 armors (four if you count Liara's: it was dummied out normally, but PC players could make it usable) and still shoved him in Phoenix for whatever reason.
For comparison, Kaidan on Horizon:

Medium Onyx, ME1:

Femshep, ME2 Intro:

Heavy Onyx, ME1:

ETA: I also just realized that Conrad Verner's replica is Onyx Heavy as well:

That now makes five different ME1 armors, counting Liara's.

I remember after Virmire that he and Shep had a conversation about dealing with Ash's death. Each time it was concluded that there wasn't time to think about it. Well, after the battle of the Citadel, I could see that loss weighing on the crew.
So, maybe he put on the phoenix armor as a tribute to Ash. It sounds like something that he'd do. Besides that, Kaidan wouldn't really care what color his armor was if it just did the job it was supposed to do.

A set of phoenix, not hers. Kind of like wearing a kind of clothing in memory of someone used to wear it. The Req. officer was right there, and Shepard always gets loot. I'm sure it was hanging around. Maybe Shepard was going to get some but needed to find it.
But this is a made up story as to why he's wearing it... but it does make sense!
