So...my Shepherd wanted to make the Normandy a little more romantic.  That means clearing out the crew, the squad, and so on.  The plan leaves just Shepherd, Thane, and-- er, well Joker and EDI are still there, but they're busy flirting awkwardly so it's not too troublesome.

Step 1: Win Thane's trust by helping him with his son.  [SUCCESS]
Step 2: "I want you, Thane."  [SUCCESS]
Step 3: Wait for Collectors to clear out the crew. [SUCCESS]
Step 4: Head to Omega4.  Use Garrus as specialist, Mordin as team leader, Jacob as walking biotic shield.  Don't send anyone back with the crew when they are found.  Lots of people die.  [SUCCESS]
Step 5: So close!  Take Thane and Jacob to the final battle, leave Miranda behind to fend off 100+ Collectors by herself.  [SUCCESS]
Step 6: Jacob becomes pancake.  Miranda becomes swiss cheese.  Thane: alive!  [GREAT SUCCESS]
Step 7: Run back to the ship with Thane.  He leaps safely onto the Normandy's deck.  Joker hangs around pretending he's a gangster.  [SUCCESS]

And then...Shepherd notices something.  After Thane jumped onto the deck he scrambled immediately inside.  Didn't care that Shepherd wasn't on the boat yet.  Didn't even look back as "siha" plummeted 40 stories to her doom because there was no one to pull her up.

Shepherd died horribly for two reasons:
1) Not enough pull-up exercises.
2) THANE IS A JERK.

Thane did everything right. More than we could have hoped for. Destorying the Collectors - but leaving Shepard to die. Thane's place in the galaxy is stronger than ever... and still it's not enough. He's a hero, a bloody icon.

I thought that if it works out the way it did for you. Doesn't the last surviving squadmember (who's supposed to help you up) get shot in the head or something while doing so?
Or then Thane's a very good and classy man indeed who dumps people with style.
