Hours? Use the Save Game Editor to edit your final boss save file with Thane so he'll survive with every other squadmate. That might work. If not, then there's definitely something fishy going on.

Also, your wife may have an unhealthy obsession with Thane.

I don't think he ever pulls you up. *Entirely conjecture* The only way it might be possible is if you have a loyal squad member go back with the Chakwas so that there is one survivor on the Normandy and then only Thane survives the final fight.  The game kills Shepard if there is not a viable three character party to select from when the suicide mission is over.    Otherwise, it is sort of like in ME1 where there was a party member that never pulled the trigger in the "make sure he's dead" moment before the final fight.

I tend to post the link every once in awhile in some other thread that brings up memories of when I first read this one. It's probably what keeps it from being completely dead. An excellent example of why you need two squadmates to survive the suicide mission.
