I got Sten's approval up to the white before the third major quest was over. The key is to keep him in your party (like David Gaider said), and figure out what gifts he likes. He's an awesome dude.

Personality/plot/background/whatever you want to call it, he is by far the weakest party member (except the dog); he's incredibly one note and was given a 'humorous' 'quirk' to make up for it.

Everyone talks too much in DAO, why cant people just point at a big castle and say stuff like "enter and kill" and let me be on my way?

Ditto. This seems like an oversight to me.scootermcgaffin wrote...
As far as I've experienced, Sten doesn't get a point at level seven at all.David Gaider wrote...
You can get Sten a specialization, if you wish, once you have it unlocked and he is otherwise eligible. In fact, considering that Sten is the only party members who *doesn't* start with a specialization, he's probably the only one who can do so at level 7.SaBeRVuLcAn wrote...
I also really like Sten but is there any reason why he doesnt get a specialization at level 7? I mean, that makes him strictly worse then Ogrhen(sp)

Maybe because a lot of us like dialogue?

Because this is an RPG not COD.
BTW: cod is a good game for all you haters. But it's got a different purpose than DA:O.

Also, I'm getting around mid-game and can't get his sidequest. He never talks about anything. I'm starting to wonder if I had the opportunity to start the quest in a conversation at some point and made the wrong choice. He doesn't really like me but he's like at ... 15-20% ?? Not so bad.

You can probably replace all chuck jokes with Sten and they would work just fine.

Now rolling with main 2 hander berserker, Sten berserker, Ogh berserker and Morr specced to heal, haste and enchant weapons. Not half as effective as the mage was in himself, but just as stylish as the walking bomb line
Sten is my favorite companion by far, not really good at anything but one of the few guys I don't want to kick in the face twice every hour. Thank god the two worst offenders( Wynne and Zevran ) happen to be the ones that can be killed on sight.

At the start of a side quest he wanted to know why we were running away from battle and not heading straight for the archdemon. There was no option to say that it was a strategic move to gather allies first or that it would be futile to confront the archdemon with the manpower we currently had. He's obviously a smart man and would understand the reasoning if I were able to tell him.
I don't know, it just seems like most of the responses are confrontational and don't make an attempt to appeal to the qunari or warrior aspects of his personality. Considering the reason he was sent to Ferelden you'd think he'd be more interested in learning about why we do the things we do instead of disagreeing with me because the qunari do things differently.
Also, he's level 13-ish in my game and still no specialization point.

At first, when you meet him in the cage, I was like "well, ok, big warrior, I'll give it a try". Then, after I gifted him with some paintings, my character and him finally got chatting and I started to get really intrigued by this mysterious qunari - and after that he soon surpassed Alistair's role as my favorite male character. Then, awesome scenes with him followed one after another (I won't spoil them here), and he soon surpassed Morrigan as my favorite companion in general. Now, my mage would never leave camp without bringing the Sten with her.
He's a very well-developed character, and I like how he faces my character directly and strongly if she does something he doesn't approve of, and he equally approves when it's MY character who faces him directly and strongly if he does something she doesn't approve of. I also love his hidden sweet side - really now, he's just a big softie.
I loved finding out that there's a scene when.... slight spoiler here..... Sten fights you for supremacy as the party leader. That's how I like my companions - not mindless followers and not treacherous backstabbers, but npcs who actually have such a strong personality to attempt to take the player's role.

He's cold and hard to get through to but strong and hard-set in his ways. He also muses that...

... that the Qunari are almost certain to invade Ferelden some day which makes me wonder if DA2 or DA3 will have a "reverse Crusades" with the "muslims" (Qunari) invading the "Christians" (Ferelden) rather than vice versa that we saw in our world. The Qunari are strong and honorable but seem to believe their way is the proper way (much like most religious types in the world today) and hence are likely to use that as justification to launch an invasion of Ferelden, which could be an awesome storyline in a future game (with the lustre of the darkspawn having worn off).
Sten also says in some of his latter dialogue that he hopes he isn't alive to see the day when the Qunari invade which implies he is one of the nice and tolerant ones. Some of the hardcore militant ones could be pure frightening!

I can't get to grips with him - and we actually came to blows at one point. Plus he got his head handed to him several times during a major dungeon crawl, which I perversly enjoyed seeing.
It's nice hearing him whine 'I need bandages' after he got knocked on his tucus for the umpteenth time.

Sten is sick in combat. One you find his sword and hook him up with 2-hand upgrades he is Hitting for sick damage.
My current setup however is- 2 warriors with 2-hand weapon use(main chr warrior)
Sten 2h
Main 2h
Morrigan frost max +shapeshift
Shale Meatwall +cc
