I just bought the game and installed it. When I try to play it, it goes to configuration but immediately says that the configuration utility has stopped. My computer EASILY runs Dragon Age so I'm pretty sure that the computer isn't the problem. Any ideas?

First off, make sure you're patched to the latest version (1.02). Easiest way to check your version is to go into the config utility, heh...
I think I've read that on Vista/7, setting the config tool to XP compatibility mode may help.

I think that I can recall quite a few messages on the old legacy ME-1 PC Tech forum at Bioware, although this thread seems to be the only one here at the social forums for ME-1.
It is my experience, in ten years of visiting gamer forums, that when any author claims to meet the hardware requirements, and yet doesn't list what his hardware actually is, about 70-80% of the time, he/she was wrong.
In this case, attempting to compare the game engine used with Dragon Age and the UT3 engine versions used with ME1 and ME2 is a poor choice. UT3 has a much higher requirement all around, but most especially for the video component. (So it's not "Aurora"? OK, thanks to Recnamoken, its name is Eclipse, which must
make NWN2 into the Aurora edition)
Minimum System Requirements for Mass Effect on the PC
(Corrected from dumb, Pie in the Sky lies to the real thing)
Operating System:
Windows XP or Vista
Processor:
2.4+GHZ Intel or 2.0+GHZ AMD
Memory:
1 Gigabyte Ram (XP)
2 Gigabyte Ram (Vista)
Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 6 series (6800GT or better: G.210, 7100, 7200, 7300, 7400, 7500, 7600 GS, 8200, 8300, 8400 GS, 8500, 9200, & 9300 are below minimum system requirements)
ATI Radeon X1800 GTO (X1300, X1300 Pro, X1300 XT, HD 2400, HD 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, HD 4350, HD 4550, and HD 5450 are below minimum system requirements)
Hard Drive Space:
12 Gigabytes
Sound Card:
DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card and drivers
Dragon Age can be played (not necessarily so very well) on a Geforce 8500 GT, a Radeon HD 4550, and an HD 5450, none of which can be used with either of the Mass Effect games.

Dragon Age: Origins uses the Eclipse engine developed by Bioware, just FYI
