Hi all.  Been enjoying the game.

Anyone else find money, or the lack of, to be a bit odd, at least in terms of the storyline?

Why  is Shepard, in game, struggling for maybe 2M credits in total to scrounge up enough kit to equip and upgrade himself.  What was the Illusive Man thinking?

Illusive Man: "Shepard!  We just spent 4B credits bringing you back from the dead to save humanity, and another 4B to build you a new ship!  The fate of humanity, and indeed all sapient life in the galaxy depends on your success!!  Oh, what's that? ...uhuh....No.  No, we can't throw a measly 2M credits your way to ensure that you have enough funds to adequately buy the necessary equipment and upgrades to ensure that you'll live to the end of the mission!  You're on your own there!"

Seriously, what's up with that?! :P:lol:

Money was only a problem on my first run through the game. The 200k credit bonus from Long Service makes a big difference.

I'm about to hit the Relay on my latest, and she's bought every upgrade, every fish, every model ship and at least one piece of gear for every part of her body, and still has just under 100k credits left. Now, I'm a completionist player by nature, so she's a wealthy ME1 import who's done every side mission there is, but, well, because of that she has everything. So it seems fair I think.

In the end, the only stuff I don't buy is the hacking/bypass upgrades. I'll probably go back and buy all the armor pieces once the game's finished.  But, either way, the credits are there.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense from a plot perspective, it's just one of those things we write off as gameplay.

Like "Hai Shepard!" .. we spent 4 billion bringing you back to life exactly as you were when you died.

Except that instead of being a level 60 Soldier, you're now a level 1 Adept. With a new face.

It doesn't make any sense at all no. But look on the bright side. At least all those people who complained about how mass hoarding useless crap (after they have the best gear in the game max credits and max medgel rendering any possible reason to have tons of crap in their inventory invalid) have one less thing to cry about.

Really though the amputation of the economy because  a handful of nerd rage filled douchebags wanted unlimited inventory space was one of the stupidest things I've ever seen a game developer do.

Always bothered me that money was so common in other games. Kinda makes you wonder what the point of money is if you can get it so easily.

It's a gameplay thing. Otherwise there'd be less reason to run around doing missions and stuff. It'd be boring to have all the best gear at the start.

Though I would like a scene in ME3 where Shepard accesses his/her swiss bank account which he/she's been funneling all the credits gained from prospecting worlds into. One of your squaddies makes some comment about needing money and you're like 'hold on, let me get to an ATM' and withdraw some $$$.

The post was meant to be a bit jokey, and a bit serious.  Why is money even a mechanism in this game when talking about the scales of values, and the importance of the mission?  Sure, finding and researching upgrades is all well and good, and that's the way they should have left it, but being skint on a few thousand creds when 10B creds was spent getting you set up does stretch belief a long way.  Unsure why they kept this mechanism in game.  Finding upgrades and equipment would make more sense.  They already have that....just half of it.

At the very least, a resource broker could've been provided so you can cash in excess resources for creds, but then again, don't get me started on the need to manually scan the planet when you've got an AI for a ship computer.  Heck, even a dumb VI could do the job of scanning for resources peaks, and give you a categorised break-down of exact probe launch points and how rich each resource point is.  But NO, this is the 22nd century, and we have AI's with the apparent personality of Orac who refuse to be subjected to such mundane tasks.  Better to let the humans do that!

Don't have to get all the best gear from the start.  The game at present allows you to find half of what you get, and that's cool.  That encourages you to do the side missions.  Should've extended that concept further, rather than coming up short for a few thousand creds at the shop given the storyline.
